Category: Growing in God

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-27-17

Jeremiah 42:6 (NKJV) 6 Whether it is pleasing or displeasing, we will obey the voice of the Lord our God to whom we send you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the Lord our God.”

I had to learn in life that trusting God means spending time with Him and waiting for His answer. It also means sharing all those things that are uncomfortable to admit or even talk about at times, and letting Him give me His answer or solution to my situation. Whether I liked it or not, I had to obey.

Trusting God is an exciting way to live. He loves to fix things, turning them around, making them work and bringing forth GOOD! He brings peace and happiness in the midst of a storm.

He keeps us going down a road of constant learning and growing while His protection is all around us. It doesn’t mean things won’t come against us. It just simply means that when they do, He is our SHIELD!

Psalm 33:20 (NKJV) 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.

He loves our conversations and the time we spend with Him. He waits for us and looks forward to sharing our days with Him.

He is very personable and He doesn’t want us to think that our cares and concerns are less than those of other people. The things that matter to us, MATTER to Him. And the things that matter to Him should matter to us.

He wants us to come to Him for all things big, small or in between. He loves when we acknowledge what we have done wrong and with all sincerity ask for forgiveness and help.

We should not feel like we are disturbing Him at any time. He is there for us. He is our HELP.

Psalm 124:8 (NKJV) 8 Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

He looks forward to our songs, our praises, our tears, our fears and our thankfulness.

Go to Him today and open up. He is faithful to meet us where we’re at.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-15-16

1 Corinthians 13:11 (NKJV) 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

Children see things through eyes of innocence, ignorance and simplicity. They don’t have the experience of life’s circumstances to help them make wise choices. They are unlearned in many things.

Because of this, they can make some terrible choices and do some pretty foolish things. And their behavior isn’t always what it should be. Sometimes they can be downright unruly and hard to be around.

So it is, also, with some adults. Sometimes we tend to resist learning certain things. We don’t want anyone to tell us anything that will require us to change our thinking or the way we do things.

And so we stay ignorant and immature in some areas of our lives. And our ignorance hurts us and those around us.

Hebrews 5:12 (NKJV) 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

The writer of Hebrews was pretty adamant about the fact that believers, followers of Christ, should not remain ignorant and immature. But should be growing and becoming spiritual adults.

As with children in the natural, growth is implied, the moment they are born. It’s silly to think that they can stay small in stature and in their minds. It is understood that they will grow and mature as they get older.

As believers, growth is also implied, from the moment we put our faith and trust in Christ. We need to always be learning and growing. We need to be seeking and learning. And we need to look to those who are more mature and wiser than us for our understanding and knowledge.

Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is dangerous.

Hosea 4:6 (NKJV) 6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…

Let’s not be children. Let’s be strong, mature men and women of God who follow God closely, make wise decisions and sound choices.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-4-15

Matthew 6:21 (NKJV) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Have you ever wondered where your relationship with God is really at?

Sometimes we question where we’re at with God and we don’t know for sure where we’re at in our walk with Him.

The best way to tell where we’re really at is to take a look at what we think about and talk about the most. What things mean the most to us? What puts a smile on our face when we think about it? What gets us excited when we talk about it to others?

These things that excite us are where our treasure is. So if our hobby excites us but God doesn’t, then we need to check our priorities.

If shopping for new clothes excites us, but spending time with God doesn’t, then we need to check our priorities.

If buying a new power tool or a new accessory for our car excites us, but sowing finances into the kingdom of God doesn’t, then we need to check our priorities.

These are not easy things to teach about. People tend to get offended when their hobbies or their finances are involved. But if we are to ever grow as believers and truly put God first, we need to let God touch these areas of our lives.

So, today, let’s take a serious look at where we’re at and let’s ask God to show us where our heart really is. And then let’s give Him permission to make the adjustments that are needed!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-13-15

1 Corinthians 13:11(NKJV) 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

We can not stay babies forever. There comes a time when we need to mature and grow in the things of God. Just as a little child grows up and changes the way he/she does things, so do we mature and grow up in the things of God.

How do we mature in the things of God? One way is by holding our tongue when everything in us wants to talk. This works that muscle of maturity.

Then there may be times when we need to do the opposite, we need to speak up and say something even when we don’t want to or like what we have to say.

There have been times when God has shown us some things and it was so good, but we couldn’t say a word to anyone about it. We had to hold it and pray. We had to keep it between us and God.

When God gives us eyes to see things it does not mean we run with it. Maturity causes us to run to Him and say “what do you want us to do with it Lord?”, and then wait for His leading or His promptings.

Holding back at times when God shows us things and being still can be the hardest thing to do, but that is a big part of maturing and we will learn to wait on God’s leading as we grow in Christ.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-6-14

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God

The salvation of our eternal souls is free… a gift from God.

He gives salvation freely, without prejudice based on our race, our ethnicity, our financial status or any other factor.

God loves us freely and offers us His plan of salvation freely.

On the other hand, our relationship with God is something that doesn’t just happen freely.

It takes effort. It takes work. We get out what we put in.

James 4:8 (NKJV) 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

As followers of Christ, we need to take the necessary steps to strengthen our walk with God and build that relationship into one that stands the test of time and lasts through tough situations and fiery trials.

In fact, as our relationship with God grows, the fiery trials that do come our way will show us where we’re at with Him and help us to see where we are weak and where we are strong.

And we also need to understand that growing our relationship with God won’t stop tough times from occurring in our lives, but it will equip us to handle them better and come through them without being mortally wounded spiritually.

So we need to accept God’s gift of salvation and then put forth the effort required to take those next steps and grow our relationship with Him. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-13

(Luke 6:45 NKJV)  “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

If we listen to ourselves (what we say) and watch what we do, we will learn a lot about ourselves. We can discern simply by the language that is used and the deeds that are done. It’s not hard; we just have to pay attention.

Whatever any of us does comes from the abundance of our hearts. If we really want to know about ourselves we just need to watch what we do and listen to what we say.

If there is a lot of negative stuff… mean, nasty, ungrateful things, etc., that we are saying or thinking, we do not want to ignore this behavior in us. Instead, we want to spend time praying and asking God to help us, so we can get to the root of it.

We’re going to find that, just because we ask God into our hearts and we are now born again or Christians, it doesn’t make us perfect. We can not ignore our behavior.

In fact, it should cause us to take a deeper look at ourselves; our actions, words and thoughts, and make us want to work on making the necessary changes on a daily basis, in order to live a life that’s pleasing to God.

Our goal as a Christian or a child of God is to grow and constantly be moving forward with Christ… so that our fruit will be good!  (Luke 6:43 NKJV)  “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.

It’s all in our heart. What is our hearts saying today?

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-6-13

(Psalm 25:5 NKJV)  Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.

God does not want us to make mistakes, or doubt Him in any way. He is a God who wants to lead us and help us in every way possible. There have been many times when I thought I was waiting on God, but it turned out He was waiting on ME.

We are all being taught in different areas; some of us are being taught patience, some may be being taught discipline, and others could be learning how to hear or know when God is speaking, etc.

We are all at different levels and in different places in our walk with God. But as long as we remain teachable, we are on the right page.

God will teach us His way as we wait on Him. Amen!
