Category: Freedom In Christ

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-23-16

Luke 4:18 (NKJV) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Liberty for the captives. That’s one of the things Jesus proclaimed He came to earth for.

And yet, so many people today are in captivity, bondage to so many things.

Drugs, alcohol, lust, adultery, fornication, pornography, tobacco, bitterness, unforgiveness, envy, strife, demonic spirits and a very long list of other things that could be named are all things that we need to be set free from.

These are the very things that Jesus was talking about; the very things He set people free from when He walked the earth.

And that freedom is still available to us today. We just have to want it and seek it!

So if you’re in captivity to anything, including the things listed above, stop what you’re doing, right now, and reach out for help!

Get free today! Don’t wait any longer. Every day that goes by is another day that you could be living in freedom, not in bondage.

Jesus Christ is able to break the chains that bind you. He is able to set you free, to live the rest of your days as a free man or free woman, not as a slave to the things that bind you and hold you prisoner.

God is waiting. He’s reaching out to you. Turn and run toward Him. Let Him embrace you and set you free today.

Today is the day!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-22-16

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Do you have things in your past that you’re not proud of? Do those things sometimes try to come back to torment you or remind you of who you used to be, before you put your faith in Christ?

Sometimes those things can really work on our minds, trying to make us feel guilty, condemned or worthless. They can even make us feel like we’re at risk of missing out on eternity with our heavenly Father.

But don’t listen to any of it! These are lies from the enemy. He will play games with our minds, trying to make us believe that we’re never going to live up to God’s standards. He will make us feel like less than we are as children of God.

But we’re here to remind you today, right this minute, that you’re free, in the name of Jesus.

You’re free from guilt. You’re free from condemnation. You’re free from death, hell and the grave.

Jesus made sure of this when He took our place on the cross, dying a cruel death. And He sealed the deal when He rose from the grave on the 3rd day.

So don’t let the whispers of the enemy torment you any longer. Turn your back on him and walk away, once and for all. Remind yourself that you have been bought and paid for with the blood of Jesus, Immanuel, God with us.

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Go! And be free in the name of Jesus!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-18-16

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

“God, please break me.”

How many times have we prayed that seemingly simple prayer or something like it? We know we need to change. We want to change. We want to break free of the sin or the complacency in our lives. So we tell God to do it for us. But it doesn’t happen.

Let’s talk about why it doesn’t happen.

God is not a puppeteer. We have no strings attached to us that allow Him to control or manipulate us. And He will never force us to do something.

Therefore, He will never break us or force us to stop sinning or doing those things that we know aren’t pleasing to Him. It’s up to us. Yes, that sounds a bit strange, but it really is up to us.

God hates sin and complacency. But He loves us. So, because He loves us, and He wants our affection for Him to be genuine, He allows us to choose the path for our lives.

We can choose to follow Him or reject Him. We can choose to get free from sin or stay entangled in it. We can choose to walk closely with Him or have a “casual”, weak relationship with Him and walk with Him at a distance.

It’s all up to us. We choose. So if it’s up to us, how can we make change happen in our lives if we seem and feel so powerless?

Through Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit.

Through Christ, we can do all things. We can overcome sin in our lives. We can defeat complacency in our lives. We can make choices and decisions that bring about change in our lives, not on our own strength, but through the strength of Christ in us!

So when temptation comes our way, either to sin or to remain complacent in our walk with God, we need to take the initiative to do the thing that pleases God. Once we make the first move, God will meet us where we’re at and help us follow through.

And he will give us whatever we need to bring about the change in our lives that we are in need of.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NKJV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

This doesn’t mean it will always come easy. It may not. But as we make more right choices, and we press in to God and build our relationship with Him, it will get easier over time.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-16

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Prisons aren’t nice places.

They are full of people who have broken laws and committed crimes of various types. Some are bad, while others are very, very bad. You might even use the word “heinous” to describe some of these crimes. Some of them are unspeakable in their atrocity.

As the criminals in a jail are imprisoned, so can we also be imprisoned by our own sins, our past and our wounds.

Sometimes we are imprisoned by the things others have done to us, not the things we have done to them. People can be hurtful. Sometimes it’s intentional. Sometimes it’s unintentional. Either way, it hurts.

And if we hold onto that hurt, it holds us in a prison of pain and anger. And if we don’t forgive them and let it go, we can also become prisoners of unforgiveness, bitterness and hatred toward them.

This is a deep, dark prison cell that can slowly eat us up and destroy us, if we let it.

But Jesus came and died to set us free from this prison! He came to set free those who are in prison cells of unforgiveness, bitterness, hatred, anger and so much more.

He’s holding out His hand today. And in His hand is the key that unlocks the prison door. That key can set us free from the prison we’re in.

He’s offering it to us. Will we take it? Will we let Him set us free?

It’s up to us. It’s our choice and our decision. Reach out and take it!

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-29-15

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Jesus came to set us free.

He died and rose again to set us free from sin, sickness, death and much more.

If we have put our faith in Christ, we don’t need to live as slaves to sin.

Sin doesn’t have to have power over us. And the only way that it will have power over us is if we let it.

Every day we will be tempted with things that can cause us to sin. Lust, theft, gossip, lying, adultery, fornication and a whole list of other things that can come our way at any moment.

But we don’t have to give in to those things. We can walk away from them. We just have to want to. We have to want to do the right thing. We have to want to make the right choice. We have to want to please God instead of pleasing our fleshly desires.

And if we truly want to do the right thing, God will give us the strength to do it.

It won’t always be easy, and there will be times when we mess up. But if our heart is in the right place, and we make a genuine effort to turn our lives around and live a godly life, God will honor that effort.

And, over time, we will find ourselves making way more right choices than wrong ones.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-15

Colossians 1:13-14 (NKJV) 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

We have been delivered from the power of darkness.

The blood of Christ delivers us from the power of darkness, and offers us redemption and the forgiveness of sins.

There are no words that can fully explain the miracle declared to us in these verses.

With one action, the death of Christ, the possibility to have our sins washed away was now before us.

And with the resurrection of Christ came the promise of eternal life, as death’s grip over us was broken once and for all.

No matter how hard we try, we will never be able to fully comprehend or understand this. It’s beyond human understanding and logic.

But human intellect isn’t the key to God’s plan. Instead, God uses His spirit to draw us to Him and show us the need for redemption.

We may never fully understand it, but if we embrace it in faith, it will save us and change us for eternity.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-9-14

John 8:31-32 (NKJV) 31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Truth is a funny thing.

It can hurt so bad sometimes when we hear it or see it. But it’s that very same truth that can also make us free.

So it is with Jesus. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Only when we meet Jesus and embrace His truth are we ever given the opportunity to experience true freedom.

No, He doesn’t magically make all of our problems disappear. And we don’t instantly get wealthy or suddenly have perfect health.

But He does offer us instant freedom from our sin and offer us eternal life with Him.

This is the ultimate in freedom. It doesn’t matter how this world tries to hold us down or keep us in some kind of bondage in the natural realm.

If we have Jesus, we have freedom. And it can’t get any better than that.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-4-14

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Jesus came to set us free. Apart from Him, there is no true freedom.

If we are followers of Christ, we should be free. Period.

If we are not free, it is usually because we have allowed ourselves to become entangled in things. That list of “things” could cover a very wide range.

It could be things that we become addicted to. It could be things that consume our time. Or it could be things that cause us to worry constantly. And the list could go on.

If we are worried constantly, it’s usually because we have not given it over to God. We are trying to handle it ourselves. Sometimes it’s because we haven’t used wisdom when making choices and we’ve gotten ourselves in over our heads in one way or another.

Being free isn’t always easy. It means we have to shake off those things that bind us and hold us captive. And in this world we live in, that can be very difficult at times.

And please don’t mistake this message as us saying that we ourselves are perfect in this. We are definitely not! But we have learned a lot over the last few years in this area. And God has shown us where we could have done things differently. It was very humbling and educational, to say the least.

But we do know this; that God wants us to be free. And in most cases, we are the ones who choose whether we will be free or not.

So I ask you today, “are you free?”. If not, let God show you where you’re in bondage and how to get out of it. Sometimes His answers will surprise you. In all of our earthly wisdom, we do our best to figure things out, but when God gets His hands on things, they can take on a whole different direction than we would ever imagine.

So let the words of Jesus, below, speak to your heart and begin to deliver you from your captivity today.

Luke 4:18 (NKJV) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed;

We proclaim this over you in the name of Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-23-14

(John 8:32 NKJV)  “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Who wants to be free today? Or do we like being in bondage?

It’s really sad to say but sometimes we really do like our bondage. It’s like we have gotten so used to it that it has become a way of life for us. We have learned to live with bondage; it may be all we know and we’ve had it for so many years,  we’ve claimed it to be ours.

Another reason we may like our bondage is because we get special treatment or because it gives us an excuse to act the way we do sometimes. You know, like throwing tantrums because things don’t go the way we think they should go.

How many times do we have a tantrum because we didn’t get what we wanted? It can be a silent tantrum, a loud tantrum, a stubborn tantrum. It doesn’t matter. They’re all the same, and it’s simply acting out because we didn’t get what we wanted. That is bondage and we need to let Jesus address it, for He is Truth!

You may ask what this has to do with the truth. If we want the truth we need to reach out for Jesus today and ask Him to come into our lives and show us the way out of our bondage, for He is the way out. He is the answer.

(John 14:6 NKJV)  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

He will set us free as we call on Him and listen to what He guides us in doing.

Get free today from little things, and big things. Let Christ open a whole new way of living for each one of us today!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-8-14

(John 8:36 NKJV)  “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

I had a dream last night.

People were being held captive on a boat. The boat and all the people on it were found.

When the boat pulled up to port and they were all walking off it, oh they were so happy! But, I noticed that they were walking funny. They were taking little baby steps.

So I said to the man next to me, “why do they walk like that”? He replied to me, “Because they were in shackles for so long they don’t know how to walk any different.”

You see, the longer we stay in chains the harder it is to break free!

How many of us today has God set free, but yet we still walk as if we have our shackles on? Are we worrying or fearful about what people may think or say about us?

How many of us today can say “God, you have set me free, let’s walk together with a big stride and cover the ground you have for me?”.

We have been set free! There are no more shackles on us. We don’t have to remain as we were. Change needs to come and we need to stop walking like we are still in captivity. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-13-14

(James 5:16 NKJV)  Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

This weekend I visited a medium security prison to visit a brother. We talked, shared and laughed.

It was time for me to leave and we hugged goodbye. As the prisoner walked away, I watched as my heart sank. I was free to walk out and to leave that place, while he waited in line to enter back in to his cell. He was a prisoner.

It made me realize that without Christ we are prisoners; prisoners to sin. There is no freedom without Christ. There is a jail cell with our name on it if we don’t choose Him.

My heart goes out to those people today; those that don’t know Christ as their Lord and Savior, for they are prisoners.

How can we reach them? How can they be set free and healed?

We can start by praying. Pray for those we know who need Jesus and His Salvation.

Prayer avails MUCH!!

Amen.
