Category: Forgiveness For Our Sins

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-12-23

Psalm 32:1 (NKJV) 1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.

Those who view their sins as being the worst or of the greatest quantity often have the most passionate appreciation for God’s grace and mercy.

The reality, though, is that any sin forgiven is great, and to be greatly appreciated.

God’s word reminds us that not even one of us is perfect. We have all fallen short of what glorifies Him.

Romans 3:23 (NKJV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

It is in this that we must understand His grace and mercy, and show the gratitude that He is due.

It doesn’t matter if He rescued us from addictions, a life of crime, a life of sexual promiscuity or what we might think was a boring life with nothing eventful happening; we all need forgiveness and redemption.

We all need the washing of the blood of the Savior, and to be made whole; new creations in Christ.

And as we walk out this new life in Christ, let us not forget from where we have been lifted, and where we are going.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

This incredible salvation is the greatest gift that any one of us could ever receive, so let us be sure to always see it and honor it as such, whether we view our former transgressions as great or small.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-13-23

Acts 9:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Then Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest 2 and asked letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, so that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

Saul was zealous for God.

His zeal, however, had gone terribly wrong. His anger toward “people of the Way” was driving him to have them rounded up and brutally persecuted, including the deaths of some believers.

But God had a plan for Saul, and He was about to begin the execution of that plan as Saul made his way to Damascus.

As most of you probably already know, Saul encountered a sudden light that “shone around him from heaven”.

Saul fell to the ground, and as he did so, he heard Jesus speaking to him, addressing his persecution of believers.

Saul asked who this was that he could hear but not see.

Jesus went on to answer him, and when Saul realized that this was the very person whose disciples and followers he was persecuting, he had a sudden change of heart.

His tone and his attitude suddenly changed. And Saul asked, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”.

In the span of a few moments, Saul had gone from an enraged persecutor of Christians to a broken man, asking Jesus what He wanted him to do.

This is one of the most amazing and most rapid transformations of a man’s heart in the entirety of God’s word.

And here’s the best part of this whole thing; what God did for and with Saul, He can do for anyone.

God’s transforming power can change the heart of any man or woman who submits to Him and seeks His forgiveness.

God has seen it all. He has heard it all. Your sin isn’t too big for Him to forgive.

Go to Him. Repent; turn away from your sins. Ask Him to forgive you. Recognize and embrace Jesus as God’s son and your Savior. And let God show you the way forward.

And He will do for you what He did for Saul.

It’s never too late. And today is the day for you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-14-21

Luke 24:47 (NLT) 47 It was also written that this message would be proclaimed in the authority of his name to all the nations, beginning in Jerusalem: ‘There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent.’

As I was recently listening to my Bible while getting ready for my day, I heard this verse and it stuck with me.

There were two key things that stood out. Let’s talk about them!

First, what initially caught my attention was the fact that the word, “all”, was used.

This means that “this message” mentioned here is for everyone.

There is nobody left out.

God does not discriminate against anyone.

This means that no matter what nation we are from, no matter what color our skin is, no matter what our income bracket is and no matter what skills or talents we have (or lack), God is not prejudice and He will not withhold His message from us because of these factors, or any others.

So, what is this message that He gives to us impartially?

That’s actually point #2 that caught my attention. It is this; “There is forgiveness of sins for all who repent”.

You see, forgiveness of sins is available to all. But there is a condition to be met. What is that condition?

Repentance.

The word says that forgiveness is available for all who repent! So, this means that forgiveness is not available to those who do not repent.

Ooh, this is something that’s pretty important if we look at it sincerely wanting to know the truth.

Sin separates us from God. It creates a chasm, a gap, between us and Him. And until we repent and ask for forgiveness, that gap remains.

That is not my opinion, nor the opinion of anyone else. It’s what God’s word says.

Sin is serious. It should never be whitewashed or sugar-coated.

Thankfully, God offers forgiveness. We just have to be willing to lay our sin aside, walk away from it (repent), and ask Him to forgive us for what we have done.

If we are sincere in our repentance, He willingly forgives us. It’s that easy.

It’s important for all of us to admit that we sin. Sadly, it’s part of human nature.

But God, in His mercy, has offered a way for us to be forgiven. It’s up to us to accept His offer.

We recently recorded a video on this topic. If you’d like to watch it, please click here.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-20

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We all sin. There’s no question about that. And those sins may vary from one person to another as to the type and the frequency of those sins.

So, it’s safe to say that sin is something that we all have in common.

But there is one other thing that we have in common. We have a Father who is willing to forgive us and cleanse us from our sins!

All we need to do is confess those sins to Him and He is faithful to forgive those sins.

Even more, though, His word says that He is also faithful to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Think about this for a moment. If we are a child of God, even though we sin, sin has no hold on us if we understand how to deal with it.

And the best part is that this isn’t complicated. It doesn’t require a ritual. It doesn’t require a priest or a pastor. And it doesn’t require an animal sacrifice, or the shedding of blood.

The blood of Jesus, shed over 2,000 years ago, was enough to wash away every sin committed by every person, across the entire world, from the time of Genesis 1:1 to the very last person, in Revelation 22:21.

It’s up to us whether we pay attention to this and follow what God tells us to do. But it’s important that we remember that carrying unconfessed and unforgiven sin around is like carrying around a backpack. Each sin is like a rock that gets tossed into the backpack. Over time, that backpack will get pretty heavy if we don’t empty it out.

It will weigh us down to the point of causing us to become tired and weary from dragging it around. And before we know it, we won’t be able to bear the load any longer.

We need to go to Him. Confess our sin. Ask for forgiveness. And then work on fixing the things that keep causing us to sin.

It’s that easy.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-1-18

1 John 1:7 (NKJV) 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Before we put our faith in Christ, we are dirty, stained by our sin. At the very moment we put our faith in Christ, He washes us with His blood. We are made clean.

It would be really nice if we would stay clean. But as humans, we have a tendency to get dirty, over and over again.

How do we get clean and stay clean? Is it even possible for us?

Yes. It is possible. And here is how.

First, the verse above says that if we walk in the light (avoid darkness), the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.

So, we need to avoid darkness and the things associated with it.

Second, God has told us that if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful to forgive those sins.

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

So we see that we need to confess our sins to Him. When we do so, He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from them.

The thing is, if we continue in sin, we will also continue to get dirty. It’s like a vicious cycle. God cleanses us, we get dirty, we need a bath, God washes us as we confess our sins.

The key is to change that cycle and learn to avoid the darkness and the sin that abounds there. Once we do this, we will find ourselves less apt to get caught up in sin and much less likely to be constantly running to God for forgiveness.

Here is the secret, straight from God’s word:

Galatians 5:24-25 (NKJV) 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

We need to crucify the flesh and live by the Spirit. If we say that we are Christ’s, but we are repeatedly wallowing in sin, we need to check ourselves and let God put His finger on those things that keep causing us to fall and get dirty.

Once we do that, and we pay attention to what He shows us and tells us, obeying His instructions, we will then begin to get a handle on our sinful ways and start to see a decline in the number of times we find ourselves “getting dirty”.

Walk in the light as He is in the light.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-11-17

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Not forgiving ourselves for the things we have done in the past can cause us to be tormented, stressed out and living a life with no peace.

As we go to God and ask Him to forgive us for the sins that we have committed, He forgives us! He cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Not just a little of it, but ALL of it.

The question is “do we forgive ourselves for doing those things we did?”. Do we let it go and realize that we are not perfect and we will make bad choices sometimes?

The hard part for some of us isn’t asking God to forgive us, but finding it in us to forgive ourselves for what we did.

This is a big thing with a lot of Christians. They know God has forgiven them. But there’s this “BUT” that keeps nagging at them. It starts with “but I knew better and shouldn’t have, so I will not allow myself to forget what I’ve done. And I will be in pain and misery the rest of my life. And I will carry guilt and shame with me everywhere I go”.

This is wrong thinking. It is not how God wants us to live.

We have a tendency to think, just because we are believers, that we should do no wrong, and that Christians have no room to make a mistake. We find it very hard to accept it when we do mess up.

God never said that when you became His child that you would NOT make any mistakes. He knows that we will. And He doesn’t want us to beat up ourselves, or others, for making those mistakes.

He wants us to learn that, as soon as we know we have done something wrong, we should ask for His forgiveness, and then move on.

Get out from under torment and stress. Let’s stop walking around with a scowl on our faces. Smile and rejoice, for God has made provision for us and others to be set free from all unrighteousness! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-17-17

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Have any of us sinned? Are we in need of forgiveness?

No matter who we are, the answer to both of these questions is a resounding YES!

Each and every one of us sins from time to time. Each and every one of us is in need of forgiveness.

Romans 3:23 (NKJV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

So what do we do? Do we wallow in self pity? Do we give up on pleasing God and just immerse ourselves in more sin, figuring that it’s not even worth trying any longer, just because we made some poor choices?

Absolutely not!

Here’s what we do. We go to God. We confess our sin. We repent (turn from our sinful ways) and we ask Him to forgive us. And then we move on!

And do you know what happens when we do that? He forgives us! Plain and simple. No hoops to jump through. No rituals needed. No penance to pay. Yes, it’s that simple.

It is good to be remorseful when we sin. It shows that we are truly sorry for what we have done. But there is no purpose and no fruit in wallowing in it and letting it defeat us.

So if you have sinned, go to Him. Do what you need to do to get right with God. And then leave it at the foot of the cross.

And that’s where it will stay. For eternity.

Psalm 103:11-12 (NKJV) 11 For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; 12 As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-17-17

Romans 3:23-24 (NKJV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus…

We all want to please God. Or at least we should.

And sometimes, despite wanting to please Him, we make mistakes; bad choices.

Sometimes we do this on the spur of the moment. We don’t plan it ahead. It just happens.

Other times, we might make a choice knowing in advance that it’s not the right choice. We know that if we make this choice and follow through with it, God will be disappointed. But we go ahead and do it anyway.

And once we’ve done it, we feel terrible. Sometimes the regret sets in right away. Other times it might take a few hours, a few days, or even a few weeks. But we eventually feel remorseful about it and we repent before God.

But even if we repent, we can still be ridden with guilt over it. And sometimes we might even wonder if God will forgive us since we did this thing knowing in advance that it was wrong.

We want to reassure you that God offers His forgiveness for all of us, even when we knowingly do stupid stuff. It’s all part of His mercy and grace. No, He doesn’t like when we sin knowingly. But He still has compassion on us and forgives us if we sincerely repent and ask Him to forgive us.

Remember… That verse up at the top of the page says that “all” have sinned. So He doesn’t expect us to be perfect. He just wants us to have a sincere heart and grow in our love for Him, so that we will learn and understand what it takes to please Him.

And just as the father ran to the prodigal son, and welcomed him home, so God will also be waiting for us with open arms, ready to embrace us and forgive us.

Luke 15:20 (NKJV) 20 “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-23-16

Colossians 1:13-14 (NKJV) 13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

Have we ever done something wrong that hurts to even think about or be reminded of? When we think of it do we get sad or depressed? Is it constantly in the back of our minds, and we wish we could turn back time and change it all?

Its tormenting power hovers over us. And even when we want to laugh and enjoy ourselves we are reminded of this mistake we made. It can suck the life right out of us.

We cannot continue to walk around like this any longer. It’s causing us to lose our joy. And when we lose our joy we become weak.

It has stopped us from moving forward, and it’s time to put an end to it.

God wants us strong. If you are going through this today, we want to agree with you in prayer, for God to set you free from this.

Dear God in Heaven,

I come to you today with a heavy heart. I know that I have made mistakes and done wrong. It has caused some major problems and it continues to eat away at me. Every time I think about what I did it makes me sick inside. It hurts me over and over. Please help me to be free from this feeling and to be able to move on in my life.

I am truly sorry for the mistakes I have made and I ask for Your forgiveness, in Jesus’ name.

Lord, as You forgive me, please help me to also forgive myself and that those around me that were also affected by it, they too will forgive me.

Help me dear Lord to put it behind me and pick up the pieces of my life and move forward, this day. I ask in the name of your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Let the joy of the Lord come back into your life. You are forgiven. Move on!

Psalm 106:1 (NKJV) 106 Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-23-15

Psalm 32:1 (NKJV) 32 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.

Sin is something we will wrestle with throughout our life. None of us is exempt. None of us is perfect.

Some days it’s easy to turn away from temptation. Other days, for whatever reason, it can be harder. Maybe we’re tired, maybe we’re depressed, maybe we are hurting or mad, etc. We give in to the tempter and do exactly what we prayed we wouldn’t do.

This happens to us all at one time or another. The good news is that when we do fall, we have someone that loves us and understands about temptation and our weakness. He understands we are not perfect and He has provided a way for us to be forgiven many times, no matter what it is.

Luke 7:47 (NKJV) 47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”

This woman had many sins, but they were forgiven.

Jesus Christ covered all sin when He died for us on the cross. But that does not mean when we become Christians, His children, we are sinless. It means that when we sin, we need to acknowledge it, go to Him and repent, asking Him to forgive us. It does not mean we have no sin.

We don’t have to live with guilt or shame for the rest of our life. Jesus covered our sin and forgives us as we ask Him to.

We are truly blessed!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-24-15

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We all sin. It’s human nature.

As God works in our life and cleans us up, our sin should continue to decrease as we grow closer to Him and learn how to walk by the Spirit and not by the flesh.

But when we make mistakes and poor choices, which we will do sometimes, we can be assured that if we repent and confess our sin to Him, He will forgive us and cleanse us.

And the best part is that it doesn’t have to be some kind of ritual or process that we have to go through to obtain His forgiveness. We simply have to have a repentant heart and ask Him to forgive us. Plain and simple.

And His word assures us that if we do this, He will forgive us. So if you’re carrying burdens from your sin, give it to Him. If you’re weighted down by guilt and shame, give it to Him.

Don’t wait. Today is the day to start fresh and let your past be just that; the past.
