Category: Following God’s Leading

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-8-18

Psalm 37:23 (NKJV) 23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

Many people ask how to know if they are following God’s plan for their life. It’s one of the most common questions we get.

There are many different things we could say about this. But for today, let’s stick with the text of this particular verse.

It says that the steps of a good man (person) are ordered by the Lord.  So, what does that tell you? Whose steps are ordered by the Lord? Those of a good man!

So, based on this, we know that if we want to know God’s plan for our lives, and know that we are walking on the path He has chosen for us, we need to be “good”.

What does God mean by good? Righteous.

God orders the steps of a righteous man (or woman). It’s important to understand that there are two forms of righteousness.

First, we are made righteous by the blood of Jesus. When we put our faith and trust in Jesus, His blood washes us and makes us clean. We instantly become righteous, by His blood.

Second, we live righteously by following God’s word, applying it on a personal level and walking it out daily.

It’s the second part that helps us to “find His path” and discern what the steps are that He has ordered for us.

As we walk this out, we ultimately begin to walk in the steps God has ordered for us. And the funny part is that it tends to happen without us even realizing it. It’s gradual, a little at a time.

And then one day we look back and we see where God has brought us from. And we begin to see and understand that the steps we took were not ours. They were His.

And what’s better than this? The fact that God delights in our way!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-12-18

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Having a drive for something is OK, as long as it is what God wants for us. If it’s not what God wants for us it can be very dangerous. It can make a mess of things quickly and we will lose our peace.

For example, maybe we want a specific position, or maybe a material item.

Watch out for the phrase, “oh, wouldn’t that be nice”. That can be the beginning of an unnecessary drive, a waste of valuable time, for something that’s not meant for us.

We may catch ourselves starting to go down that road and digging deeper, trying to find out more about it. The next thing we know we are spending all our time and effort trying to make it happen, trying to possess it and make it ours.

Whenever we want or think we need something so badly, it will begin to drive us. It’s crucial that our drive be aimed toward the things that God wants for us. Nothing else.

One way to check ourselves at any point in time is to pull back and say, “hold on, wait a minute, I need to make sure this is right for me”.

If we can’t do that, and we just keep plowing our way through, trying everything we can to make it happen, then we are most likely being driven by our motives, our wants and our desires. God is not a part of it. It’s all us.

To keep this from happening, we have to keep an eye on our hearts during the process. How? By keeping ourselves accountable.

Make sure we are taking time with God, and we don’t just push Him off and ignore His promptings, His warnings, and His red flags. Be aware and alert throughout the whole process, making sure His peace is present and prevalent.

He has no problem helping us to know if we are getting ready to make a BIG mistake. We just have to pay attention to the signs, use wisdom and take action to stay on the right track.

If we are being driven today by something that is not going to be right for us, we need to stop, no matter how far in we are. Then we need to pull back and take some time to get God’s direction. He is faithful to help us see clearly and bring understanding, as long as we’re willing to listen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-3-18

Romans 8:25 (NKJV) 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

Start this new year off by asking God for vision, to see the things that need to be changed in our lives, our homes, our finances, our work, or our ministry.

Lay it all out before Him, and then wait on Him.

God knows the things that need to be fixed, and He knows how to fix them. He knows what it will take and what will turn it around and make it work.

Write down the things He puts on our hearts and ask Him how to do it. Ask Him for the plan and the wisdom to do it. Let Him direct our steps.

God will place His vision within us and yes, it is fun and very exciting at times.

But we can’t think that once we have the vision that we can just pick up the ball and run with it on our own. That’s not how it works, and people that do this end up in a mess or in great failure.

Let Him work out the details and give us His strategy and timing. It may not come all at once, but in little pieces. Wait for it, moving one step at a time, and enjoy every moment of it.

God is precious, and the things He does for His children, He takes to heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-12-17

Isaiah 41:13 (NKJV) 13 For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’

What happens when we ignore something we know we need to address? It gets worse. It grows. It gets a stronger grip on us. And it can cause distractions, keeping us from moving forward.

Why? Because when we let it linger, we let it get the best of us.

Don’t get us wrong. There are times when we need to let things be and let it have time to work itself out. But today we are focusing on those things we know we need to address.

Maybe it’s an employee, a family member, or a friend. For ministers, priests or pastors, maybe it’s a situation within the congregation, etc. Or maybe it is something within our own personal situation that we need to deal with.

Whatever it may be, if God is prompting us to look closely at it, we must take it to heart and seek Him as to how to deal with it. Ask Him, “what steps do we take, Lord?”.

If we continue to let it go and we ignore it, with the hope that it will pass or go away, that is not likely to happen. Things that God puts on our hearts or opens our eyes to see, most times are the very things we need to pray about and deal with.

God is faithful to help guide us and walk us through it. We just have to be willing.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-8-17

Job 12:13 (NKJV) 13 “With Him are wisdom and strength, He has counsel and understanding.

How are we about stepping out and doing something outside of our comfort zone? Do we get nervous and not want to make a move? Do we get excited and start running with it?

We can’t let nervousness stop us from putting one foot in front of the other. And we can’t let excitement cause us to take off running before we have God’s plan or strategy.

When we know God has opened a door for us, but we have no idea how or what to do, how do we handle it?

Are the finances not there to make it work? Or maybe the time and labor we need to put into it just isn’t there? Sometimes we will even ponder on the fact that we don’t have the knowledge to pull it off.

In situations like these, we feel inadequate in a lot of areas, causing us to become overwhelmed and intimidated.

These are all normal things we think about, and they will cause us to get nervous.

So, what do we do?

First and foremost, we seek God for His wisdom and understanding for the thing He has put before us.

This doesn’t mean He will come and lay it all out for us all at once. But, seeking His wisdom for the first step to take, and the timing of it, is of the utmost importance.

Keep it simple. One step at a time.

Sometimes He will give us vision for the project, but it’s not necessary for us to take off with it all at once. We need to hold it dear to our hearts, and walk accordingly, by moving prayerfully.

Our prayers are with you, and if you are in need of pastoral guidance, feel free to contact us by phone or email at any time.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-20-17

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

When God asks us to do something, are we willing to do it? That’s a good question that we will all need to answer at one time or another.

Do we have stipulations that we present to God? Do we say “God, I will do that if you do it this way.”?

Knowing who God is will help us greatly when it comes to doing what He asks us to do. We need to understand that God wants the very best for us. Once we know this, wouldn’t we be more willing to let Him own us completely?

How do we let God own us? We train our brain to listen to our heart.

But, why would we want our brain to listen to our heart, if our heart can’t think like our brain can?

Well, if we have given our heart to Christ, He will move on us and speak to us through our heart. If we want to do what He is asking us to do, we have to be listening to the heart. The heart will speak loud and clear. But our mind must submit and follow, and not try to lead.

The brain tends to lead us by logic and intellect. It will make us think that we shouldn’t do anything that we can’t figure out or understand logically.

In comparison, if our heart is being led by the Spirit of God, it will help us to discern what is right and what is not, even if we might not necessarily understand it all.

If Christ is treasured in our hearts, He will bring us a renewed and transformed mind, and the two will bring victory over any situation! Amen.

Matthew 6:21 (NKJV) 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-13-17

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

When we truly submit to God, and what He wants to do, in us, for us and through us, we will feel His peace come over us. We will know, even though we don’t quite understand it, that we have finally given into Him and stopped fighting it.

I remember a time when we thought we needed to switch some things up and we were trying our best to do the right thing and make the right choices.

But, even though we thought we were heading in the right direction, something on the inside of us wasn’t completely sure. We didn’t have His peace. That’s an indicator that we still need to seek God for the complete plan and wait for Him to show us.

We continued on the road we were on because we didn’t know what else to do.

After some time went by, and we had made some plans, lined things up, signed paperwork related to certain changes, God gently reminded us that He had another way. And His way would work better at taking care of this particular situation.

We literally were ¾ of the way into this thing with all of the decisions we had made, but we humbly decided to pull out and agree with Him.

We are thankful we choose His way, because by doing so, He brought it around in such a way that we would never have been able to do with our own understanding.

Don’t be afraid to pull back, or pull out of the work we have begun, if we are not feeling God’s peace and certainty in it.

All it takes is submitting and saying “OK, God. We tried to do what we thought was the right thing, but it’s not feeling so much like the right thing right now. We really want it done Your way.” Then simply let Him see it through and follow His leading, taking only the steps He directs us to take.

He will direct our path if we will let Him.

Psalm 25:4 (NKJV) 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-17

Psalm 89:8 (NKJV) 8 O Lord God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness also surrounds You.

God is faithful to help us ordinary people do great things on this earth, and still remain humble.

Here are just a few examples…

If Joseph didn’t do his part, if Mary didn’t do her part, if John the Baptist didn’t do his part, where would we be today? These were just ordinary people following God’s plan with their hearts.

You see, Joseph’s part was to believe what God was doing in Mary. This child of the Holy Spirit, this child who would come and save us from our sins, was in his soon-to-be wife’s belly. He had to believe and accept that it was as he had been told. It took an angel to convince him, but he accepted it.

After the child was born, he had to follow God’s steps in keeping Him safe and protected. Right from the beginning, his son was sought after. Herod wanted Him dead. In order to keep Him alive, Joseph had to listen to God and obey Him, taking the necessary steps to keep his Son alive.

Mary’s part was to accept God’s word for her, that she would be pregnant by the seed of the Holy Spirit and carry God’s Son, Jesus Christ.

She had to believe that she would be impregnated without ever being intimately involved with a man. That takes faith!

John the Baptist was to be a witness for Jesus, telling people about Him before anyone knew who He was. He was a ground breaker, so to speak. He was a preparer; someone who puts his reputation on the line. And he couldn’t care less what people thought about him.

The birth and preparation of our Messiah took place through God speaking to ordinary people like you and I. All they did was believe and obey.

We ask the question; do we know what God is speaking to our hearts today? Believe Him, listen for the steps, and obey. He is faithful to see it through! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-4-17

Exodus 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.”

Sometimes God will put something before us that He wants us to do, but we feel completely inadequate to do it.

This was the case with Moses. God had chosen him and showed him everything that He wanted Moses to do. He even assured Him that He would give Moses the words to speak.

But, despite all of God’s assurances, Moses asked God to find someone else for the job.

Do we ever find ourselves in this same situation? Has God ever asked us to do something, but we adamantly insist that He find someone else for the job?

Unfortunately, this happens more often than most of us want to admit. We pray and pray and ask God to use us. And then when He wants to, we shrink back and ask Him to find someone else.

Moses pleaded with God, reminding God that he wasn’t good with words and that his words got tangled up when he tried to speak.

But I like what God said to Moses!

Exodus 4:11 (NLT) 11 Then the Lord asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the Lord?

This is a good reminder for all of us that if God asks us to do something, He will also equip us for that thing He has asked us to do!

He will never give us an assignment without equipping us. Through His word and prayer, we can learn of Him and grow close enough to Him to gain insight and understanding in His ways. In this, we will be equipped to handle those things that come our way, even when we might not think we’re prepared for them.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

So, if God has placed something in front of you that He wants you to do, don’t panic. Spend time in His word daily. Learn to hear His voice. And as He calls us, so will He also equip us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-29-17

John 2:5 (NKJV) 5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”

The words above were spoken by Mary, at the wedding where Jesus turned the water into wine. You see, Mary knew; whatever Jesus says to do, do it.

When the Lord speaks to our hearts and wants us to do something, the best thing to do is not to try and figure it out.  We simply need to just start to take the steps He gives and move toward it.

At one time in our lives we thought we had everything figured out. You know, that “PLAN” we come up with where everything goes according to how we think it should go.

Circumstances changed and our PLAN was crushed. God was not part of that plan. If He was, it would have worked out. We learned from that big mistake not to leave Him out.

Sometimes when we plan things, even as Christians, we have a tendency to leave God out. We start a job, we start a family, we pick our groom or bride. We start a ministry, we pick the place for a church, or mission field, the people we want around us, etc.

When something goes wrong, we are like “What?”. It’s then that we quickly run to God and say “what happened?”.

Let God be part of our world, part of our plans and part of our daily walk. Let Him be the part that leads us and let our part be to follow and do whatever He says to do. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-16-17

Proverbs 1:33 (NKJV) 33 “But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.”

It’s important that we listen to God’s voice and heed what he says. There is wisdom in doing so.

God promises us that if we listen, we will dwell safely, we will be secure and we won’t have to fear evil.

That’s a whole lot of security right there!

It’s easy sometimes to ignore God’s words and His promptings. But it’s safe to say that if we do that, we do so at the risk of losing out on His blessings.

So it’s to our own benefit that we listen and follow what he shows us to do.

Be secure and live without fear of evil.
