Bible Verse of The Day – 11-17-20

Judges 8:24 (NKJV) 24 Then Gideon said to them, “I would like to make a request of you, that each of you would give me the earrings from his plunder.” For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.

Gideon was used by God to tear down the altar of baal. But along the road he lost sight of his purpose and made the wrong request; he asked for the golden earrings from the plunder the men had taken.

This was the very thing that would pull him down and cause him to fall. The very thing that would make him stop winning and lose all that God would have had for him.

Gideon knew better. But he did it anyway. He requested them and then made them into an ephod (a type of decorated priestly garment), and it became a snare to him and those around him.

Judges 8:27 (NKJV) 27 Then Gideon made it into an ephod and set it up in his city, Ophrah. And all Israel played the harlot with it there. It became a snare to Gideon and to his house.

Are we dabbling in things that will destroy our relationship with God? Are we desiring or lusting after things that look and feel good, but are not good for us?

We have to know what will cause us to fall. And once we recognize those things, we need to beware of them trying to come back into our lives.

Do not forget the things or the relationships that God says to stay away from. Some things, no matter how good they look, are nothing more than a trap and will cause us to fall.

They will cause us to lose everything that God has for us.

What is most important to God is to see us take to heart the things that He says are good for us.

Material things can destroy us if we don’t keep them in their proper place. If we can’t say no to some things, we’d better take a good hard look as to why.

Most times it is something we need to address within ourselves. It is something that has a hold on us and will likely become a snare to us at some point.

Only God should hold that place in our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-3-20

Psalm 119:103 (NKJV) 103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

When God answers us, we know it.

It is so satisfying, so complete, so unbelievably fulfilling.

At one time in our lives, we were starving for an answer for a situation we were in. We cried day and night, for we knew not what to do.

We wanted to do the right thing, but we hadn’t a clue as to what it was.

Am I talking to someone today? You’re there right now.

We saw things happening around us, and we knew that change was on the horizon. We just didn’t know what that change was quite yet.

And I will add…it’s an uncomfortable place to be when we haven’t the know-how, the know-what or the timing of it all. We feel like we are just in the air waiting for something to fall on our ears or in our heart. Something with substance to it.

When we get it, and when the word of the Lord hits and we see the answer, oh how sweet the sound of it!

Let me say it is like honey to our mouths. It is sweeter than sweet. Why? Because it’s the WORD that we needed, and everything in us says, “YES and Amen!!”

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-23-20

Nehemiah 2:12 (NKJV) 12 Then I arose in the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put in my heart to do at Jerusalem; nor was there any animal with me, except the one on which I rode.

Nehemiah had a heart for God and His people.

He was devastated when he learned of the condition of Jerusalem, the holy city. Its walls had been destroyed and its gates had been burned. And the Jews there were in great distress.

Nehemiah had it in his heart to do something about this tragedy. But being a lowly cupbearer for King Artaxerxes, he wasn’t sure what he could do.

So, he approached the king and asked permission to leave and go to Jerusalem and gather men to help him rebuild the wall and repair the gates.

Nehemiah found favor with the king and was granted permission to go. So, he gathered men to take with him and then he left.

As he gathered men and the necessary materials, some others rose up in opposition to him. They didn’t want the walls of the city rebuilt, so they schemed and devised a plan to stop what he was going to do.

Nehemiah, however, used wisdom.

After being in Jerusalem 3 days, he arose in the night and took men with him to survey the damage to the wall.

You see, Nehemiah knew he was being opposed. He knew that riding out in the daylight to inspect the wall would only draw attention and may put him and the others at risk. So, he went at night, in secret.

God will do this for us. He will give us wisdom as to how He wants us to do things. He will warn us of danger. And He will show us how to circumvent that danger, laying to waste the plans of the enemy.

We just need to be careful to listen and obey His voice. We have to have the ability to hear Him and the will to obey Him, despite what it may cost us or how odd His instructions might seem to our minds sometimes.

And just as Nehemiah and his men overcame their opposers and completed the rebuilding of the wall, so will we accomplish whatever God places before us, provided we trust Him and obey!

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-10-20

Psalm 139:14 (NKJV) 14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

Oh my! We can’t tell you enough today how fearfully and wonderfully made you are. The God of the Heavens and Earth has created you. And you are amazing through His Son Jesus Christ, who dwells in you.

So, not only are we fearfully and wonderfully made, but we have His Spirit living in us.

Wow! Now, you tell me what we cannot do through Him.

Someone out there today needed to be reminded of who you are. And this word to you just ignited your faith. It gave you a little boost and you, my friend, are ready to take that step you’ve been waiting to take.

Remember, it’s not on your own, but in knowing who God has called you to be. And the door He has just opened up for you is so that He can lead you in it.

Don’t be afraid at what you face. Be reverently fearful and obedient toward the One who created you.

God bless you. Keep us posted on your adventure in Him. He will guide your every step as you trust Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-31-20

Joshua 9:14 (NKJV) 14 Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord.

Israel had been on a massive conquest. And by God’s leading and direction, they had defeated many enemies, taking their land and expanding the Israelite territory.

Every time they would seek God’s counsel and followed His leading, they were victorious in their battles.

Word of their victories and of the fierceness of their God had spread throughout the land, causing other nations to fear Israel greatly.

The nation of Gibeon was one of those that was in great fear. So, they devised a plan to deceive Israel and convince them to enter into a treaty to prevent being conquered and wiped out.

As the envoys of Gibeon spoke with Joshua, they lied and said that they had traveled from a distant land, taking so long that their food had spoiled and their clothing had worn out during the lengthy journey. In reality, they traveled only a short distance and had purposely brought moldy bread and worn out clothing as part of their ploy.

Joshua and the others examined their food and their possessions and saw the condition. And without consulting God, they entered into a covenant with them, sparing Gibeon from being attacked.

In short, they were deceived. They took the bait and fell for the lies.

Why? Because they failed to seek God and get His input. And now, because they had given their word to the people of Gibeon, their hands were tied.

It’s important that we don’t follow in the footsteps of Israel and do the same thing. We need to get God’s counsel on every decision we make; especially very big decisions that have the potential to have a major impact on our lives.

Sometimes things aren’t what they look like on the surface.

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-27-20

Acts 9:11 (NKJV) 11 So the Lord said to him, “Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying.

Take a close look at, “the Lord said to him.”

You see, when the Lord says it to us, that is what counts. That is what we need to pay attention to.

We will hear many things and many ways of doing things in this life, but when the Lord says to us to do something a certain way, that is when we need to take note and obey. Notice that He gives specifics. That is how He is. He doesn’t leave us empty, wondering, not knowing.

Now, Ananias was a disciple at Damascus, and the Lord came to Him in a vision. Ananias replied to the Lord, “Here I am”! He was ready to listen.

When the Lord told him what he was to do, Ananias began to explain to the Lord some things regarding Saul of Tarsus that he was concerned about.

Acts 9:13 (NKJV) 13 Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem.

How many of us do this? The Lord places something on our hearts to do, and we begin to question Him and what He is asking of us.

I know I’m talking to myself today as well. This is a problem among almost all of us. We think we have to explain in detail what could happen to us if we take the steps the Lord is asking us to take.

The Lord did reassure Ananias that everything would be alright.

Acts 9:15 (NKJV) 15 But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel.

Our job is not to question or doubt, or even need an explanation. But to move and to move accordingly. To accept the task, trusting Him. Putting our concerns aside and following His leading.

He will give us specifics when we need them. He will be more than faithful to show us what we need to do when He needs to.

Don’t hesitate. Just do what He shows us. And then when the time is right, He will show us the next move.

Don’t forget Who we are dealing with! Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient, Alpha & Omega, Jehovah Jireh, El Shaddai, Almighty God is He!

Follow. Don’t feel the need to question or educate Him! He knows. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-26-19

1 John 4:20 (NKJV) 20 If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?

While I was out running errands the other day, I was in my car and saw someone I knew, from a distance. They were walking toward their car in the parking lot I had pulled into.

Feeling annoyed just knowing that it was them, I put my head down so I wouldn’t make eye contact and I wouldn’t have to wave to them. Then I continued on with the rest of my day.

A few days later, I saw the same person again. And I immediately got all funny and weird in my attitude. I could tell something wasn’t right.

God began to speak to me, saying, “why don’t you want them to see you or you to see them?”.

I said, “Lord, I don’t really know, other than the fact that they irk me for some reason”.

He said to me, “I say to love your brother, and if you don’t love them then how can you love me?”.

My words were short, for once in my life.

I sat there for a moment and then said, “Yes Lord, You are right. I’m sorry. I will make things right the next time I see them”.

You know, sometimes we don’t even realize what we are doing until God shows us right when we are doing it.

I know I’m not perfect, and there are things I need to work on every day.

But, when God points something out, it’s time we make things right in that area. It’s those little things we need to pay attention to, because that is our moment and that little thing means a lot to God. There’s something we must see and learn.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-26-19

Proverbs 4:12 (NKJV) 12 When you walk, your steps will not be hindered, And when you run, you will not stumble.

There are times when we are asking God for an answer and He is saying nothing. Why?

His silence is sometimes the answer to our question. In other words, what He told us last hasn’t changed. Things still stand the same. He didn’t change anything, and He certainly doesn’t want us to change anything.

Whatever it is today that we are trying to figure out, the best thing we can do is to stop. Don’t give it another thought.

God will let us know if and when we need to change it, or if we need to do something differently. If we need to keep walking or keep running, then let’s keep going, no matter what we see in front of us. If we are obeying Him, we will not stumble.

When we follow His leading, He will let us know clearly when it’s our time to do something different. It won’t be a guessing game. It won’t be something we do out of presumption. It will be a knowing and a clear step of faith.

He is a good Father, and a very thorough One at that.

Let’s keep our head up and stay close to Him, and we will know our next move.

Proverbs 3:6 (NKJV) 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-8-19

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Do we pout when God asks us to do something or go somewhere, and it’s not what we wanted to do or where we wanted to go?

Pouting with God does not make Him change His plans. Sorry. He will just find someone else that will be willing to do it.

But, remember, He would have preferred the person He asked first to do it, for many reasons.

One reason may be that He equipped and prepared them already for the task, and that took time. Now, asking someone else may cause a delay.

Another reason may be that the person that He has to ask now is being pulled from their post in order to do someone else’s task.

If God is tugging on our heart to come and take a step of faith in a direction we have never gone before, we shouldn’t walk away, pout, or try to fit it into our plans and our preferences. Just take the step into the unknown and see what amazing things He will pull out of it all!

Psalm 100:3 (NKJV) 3 Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Be honored to serve Him in such a way, and let fulfillment and joy come from it all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-19

Ecclesiastes 2:11 (NKJV) 11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.

As I sat in the parking lot of a local shopping center today, I pondered on many things as I watched cars come and go, and people busily going about their shopping.

We are in the beginning of a season of major change, the details of which God is revealing to us a little at a time. So, we are both a bit excited, nervous and expectant as we wait for God to show us more.

As I watched everyone today, and as I went over some things in my mind, I began to feel the tremendous weight of what God is bringing us through. There are so many unknowns right now.

But we trust Him in everything, so there is no fear in any of this even though we may not know the when and the how of it all.

Most of all, as I sat and took all of the busyness in that was all around me, I became acutely aware of how fragile life is and how so many of us spend our lives chasing after things that, in the grand scheme of things, don’t matter one iota.

We are all guilty of this to one degree or another. And it’s not that we are terrible people because of it. After all, God does want us to have some pleasure in our lives.

But God showed me how all of this “chasing after the wind” affects our lives; how it bogs us down and causes us to lose sight of what’s really important.

If we are sensitive to God’s spirit, we will feel the tug of war going on between the things of God and the pull of the world on us. It will be like a wrestling match between darkness and light, apathy and passion, idleness and activity.

This battle won’t leave us alone until we do whatever it is that God is prompting us to do, or until we become hard and begin to ignore Him, eventually closing Him out completely.

It’s critical that we don’t let ourselves get to that point, where we close Him out. We need to stay sensitive to Him and His promptings.

How do we do this? We be careful not to let so many of these other things pull on us and take us away from Him. We make sure that we don’t get caught up things that steal our time and our affections.

Enjoy life. Live it to the fullest. But always, always, always put God first in everything.

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-10-19

Matthew 8:19-20 (NKJV) 19 Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”

Jesus was on His Father’s watch. He had much to do while here on earth.

He had purpose. He had vision. He had a plan, and that was to obey all His Father asked of Him.

He did not put down His roots in one place, unless His Father told Him to.

His home was in His Father’s heart, doing His will. Obeying His Father is where Jesus resided, day and night.

That’s a place where we can’t let our flesh or emotions get the best of us. Only God gets all of us! It’s a place of rest within itself and brings such peace with it, knowing that we are right where we need to be with Him.

Amen.
