Bible Verse of The Day – 9-13-24

2 Samuel 11:26-27 (LSB) 26 Then the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband had died, so she lamented over her husband. 27 Then the time of mourning passed by, and David sent and gathered her to his house and she became his wife; then she bore him a son. But the thing that David had done was evil in the sight of Yahweh.

The events surrounding David’s initial interactions with Bathsheba are the most shameful of his life.

David was a man after God’s own heart. His life overall was pleasing to God.

But what David did when he committed adultery with Bathsheba, and then had her husband killed in battle, was evil in the eyes of God.

As punishment for his sin, God told David through the prophet Nathan that He would require the life of the son whom Bathsheba would bore.

2 Samuel 12:13-14 (NKJV) 13 So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.” And Nathan said to David, “The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. 14 However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”

And as foretold by Nathan, the child was born and was struck with sickness.

2 Samuel 12:15 (NKJV) 15 Then Nathan departed to his house. And the Lord struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it became ill.

David fasted, wept, and laid on the ground day and night for seven days, hoping God would spare his son. But on the seventh day, the child died.

Upon learning of the child’s death, David immediately arose, washed, and ate.

His servants were astonished that he immediately arose and ate after fasting for so long, showing no signs of mourning for the death of his son.

They questioned him, asking him how he could have fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but upon hearing of his death he immediately arose and ate.

David explained that once the child was gone, it was clear that God had spoken, and mourning would change nothing.

2 Samuel 12:22-23 (NKJV) 22 And he said, “While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who can tell whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?’ 23 But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.”

Let us learn from David’s example.

There is a time to fast and pray for a situation. But when God’s will has been made clear, there comes the time to arise, wash, eat, and accept what has taken place, recognizing His sovereignty in all things, and giving Him the glory and honor He is due.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-16-24

Psalm 16:11 NKJV) 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

How many times do we ask ourselves, “am I doing the right thing? Am I where I’m supposed to be? Am I on Your path, Lord?”

Life is funny. We all have these questions; even those that we might think have it all together. They have the same concerns.

Being sure is not a bad thing. And if we need to ask from time to time, that’s perfectly fine. We always want to make sure we are on the right path in our walk with God.

So, what do we do if we realize we are not?

The best thing is to not panic but, ask God to help us get there.

Don’t make any sudden moves or changes. Just pray first, and let Him help guide our steps. Wait for Him to open doors.

Some people make the mistake of abruptly stopping everything when they realize, “this isn’t it”. But that’s not always the thing to do.

Sometimes we need to let God get us there little by little, one small step at a time.

Most importantly, though, we need to start off by asking Him and then moving forward at His pace. He will show us His way.

Psalm 25:4 (NKJV) 4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-4-24

John 13:37 (NKJV) 37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will lay down my life for Your sake.”

Peter was sincere in what he said. He really did want to do the right thing. He loved the Lord dearly.

Sometimes we say something with all sincerity, but when the time comes for what we said to be put to the test, and the circumstances are different, the results may be different than what we said would happen.

I’m speaking from experience today. Sometimes the very thing I want to get right, I still find myself slipping. Why is this?

Because we aren’t perfect and we know the right way, but our imperfected flesh will fail.

Peter had every intention in his heart to be true to Jesus, but the rest of him needed to line up. He ended up denying Jesus, not just once, but 3 times.

John 13:38 (NKJV) 38 Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow till you have denied Me three times.

We, too, may make statements at times as to how we will do this or do that, and really want to hold true to our words. But we will find our imperfect flesh overriding our heart if we don’t take the time and align them with the Holy Spirit.

Maybe today we are feeling terrible about some things we have promised to the Lord and failed to follow through on.

For instance, “I’ll never do that again if you get me out of this mess. I’ll give you everything if you save my marriage. I’ll give you my full attention if you save my child. I’ll tithe from my check if you get me this job”.

These are probably sincere promises, and maybe at first we did start to do what we promised. But over time we stopped and went back to the way things were.

Today is a new day, and we can repent. And those promises we spoke to the Lord, we can still carry them out.

We can start over and ask Him to help us and our flesh to walk out the things we know we need to do.

We can’t just give up if we did the opposite of what we said we would do.

Make it right. Tell God we are sorry, and try again. With His help, we can do all things that we purpose in our heart.

Matthew 19:26 (NKJV) 26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-30-24

Acts 5:32 (NKJV) 32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

Our Helper is the Holy Spirit. If we let Him have a place in us, He will guide us and lead us to do great things!

How many of us want that kind of life? A life of doing things we never thought we could do.

The question is, will we let Him be our Helper?

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

We may say, “well, it’s hard because we are so used to  making our own decisions based on what we know. We are in the habit of just following our own instincts. After all these years, how do we drop what we know, let the Holy Spirit teach us, and follow Him?”

These are great questions!

How do we follow Him?

With our spiritual eyes and ears open to see and hear Him, and our heart open to trusting Him.  We watch, listen, and then take action, by faith.

Sometimes we may not be sure of what we are doing, or why we are doing what we feel like we are impressed to do. But if what we are doing lines up with God’s word, we are most likely safe and being led in a very good plan for our life.

Most times when the Holy Spirit is guiding us, it is not something we had planned to say or do. It’s usually unknown to us. And many times a little scary.

We can’t let that deter us. We are supposed to do what? Walk by faith!

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Follow His leading. Trust Him in everything. He never steers us wrong.

Bible Verse of the Day – 4-3-24

Colossians 2:16-17 (NKJV) 16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

As Paul wrote to the Colossian church, he warned them not to pay heed to the false teachings that had been circulating among their ranks.

A group of heretics had begun to propagate legalistic teachings that pulled the believers back into the bondage of the Mosaic Law, suggesting that they must hold fast to the traditions of old.

This included mandatory adherence to the keeping of various celebrations and dietary restrictions.

Paul told them specifically that these practices were but a shadow of things to come. They were fulfilled by Christ Himself.

Christ’s fulfillment of these things releases believers from the old covenant, setting them free and doing away with the old.

No longer are we obligated to abstain from certain types of food.

No longer are we obligated to participate in the annual religious celebrations of the Jewish calendar, such as Passover, Pentecost, or the Feast of Tabernacles.

Likewise, we are no longer obligated to keep or celebrate the sabbath.

Romans 14:5-6 (NKJV) 5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. 6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.

So, let us do what we do as unto God. Whether we choose to eat, or not to eat certain foods, let us give thanks to God for what we eat.

And whether we choose to celebrate or not celebrate a certain day or a certain festival, let us do so unto God.

And let us not look down at those who choose to live and celebrate differently than we do, as we walk out our own convictions, knowing that Christ came to fulfill the law and bring freedom to us all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 3-27-24

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (NKJV) 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

As we each face various trials or seasons of abrupt, unexpected change, our thoughts can run away with visions of impending disaster.

As the enemy attacks our minds, we will frequently envision the very worst scenarios.

But as we allow God to bring truth and His light into our situations, we will begin to see and understand that the things we fret over are truly only temporal. They are of this world.

We need to allow God to teach us how to keep our minds on the things unseen; the things above.

You see, if we spend our time and energy focused on the things of earth, we can lose sight of the things of God; the things unseen.

The things of this earth carry no weight regarding eternity. They will quickly fade away.

But as we turn our eyes to what is unseen, we will begin to recognize God’s sovereignty and understand that those things with eternal ramifications are what is most important.

Time spent fretting over earthy things is time wasted.

Knowing that, it is important for us to fix our gaze squarely on God and allow Him to be glorified in everything about our lives, including the times and seasons of trials.

All these things are working to build our faith, strengthen our character, and teach us perseverance as we learn to trust in God.

Let us focus not on the things of this earth, but on the things unseen. For those things bear eternal weight of glory.

Colossians 3:2 (NKJV) 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-25-24

Acts 16:6 (NKJV) 6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.

Paying attention to the promptings of the Holy Spirit is so very important, and even more so in the days we live in.

We could be walking into a dangerous situation at times, but with His guidance we will be able to withstand the wiles of the devil.

We can avoid a lot of problems if we remain sensitive and eager to follow His leading.

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

There will be times when we may never know the reason for the things He keeps us from doing. We just need to know that by following Him we did the right thing, and it could have saved our life.

He tries to show us the importance of staying alert.

Acts 16:8-9 (NKJV) 8 So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

Here we can see the Holy Spirit led them by a vision or a dream.

His word and prayer are the two primary ways that God leads us. He may also use a dream or a vision.

Are we open to such things today or have we completely disregarded them, thinking they were only for the apostles?

That is wrong for us to think. He is still the same God He was then. And the Holy Spirit is still the same Holy Spirit, speaking the same way He has always spoken.

God will lead all of us through the Holy Spirit if we are open to Him and let Him lead as He sees fit.

Psalm 32:8 (NKJV) 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.
