Category: False Prophets

Bible Verse of The Day – 2-23-22

Jeremiah 23:25-26 (NKJV) 25 “I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’ 26 How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart…

I’ve recently been working my way through the book of Jeremiah again. Jeremiah is a fascinating book that continues to teach me new things every time I read through it.

Last week I began to notice a common thread in many of the things that God spoke to Jeremiah regarding prophets. And what He said hit home, reminding me of many of the things we are seeing today.

As we have watched current events unfold over the last two years, I have also seen a marked increase in many so-called prophets of God who have prophesied many things that have proven not to be true.

They have spoken what people wanted to hear, not what the Spirit of God was saying. They have spoken of dreams and visions, but those have all proven to be false.

Yet, in all of these false “words from God”, these pretend prophets have gathered unto themselves hundreds of thousands, or perhaps even millions, of people who follow them and hang on their every (false) word.

It would behoove the body of Christ to pay close attention to the Spirit of God. He is more than willing to show us what is true and what is false. And it’s safe to say that He is actively doing so each day.

We just have to be willing to hear Him.

Please don’t misconstrue this as a condemnation of every person who claims to speak prophetically. It is not meant to be that.

What it is meant to be is a warning, a gentle nudge for the body of Christ, that we may all be awake and alert in these important times in which we live.

If there are words that we are hanging on each day, they should be the words that God has given us; The Word of God. Not something uttered from the mouths of modern-day fortune tellers, many of whom are nothing more than wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Test the spirits. God is faithful to show us what is real and what is not.

1 John 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-21-20

Matthew 7:20 (NKJV) 20 Therefore by their fruits you will know them.

As Jesus was nearing the end of the Sermon on The Mount, He began to draw distinctions between different kinds of things.

In this, He alluded to two different paths, two different kinds of builders and two different groups of people.

One path leads to destruction. The other leads to life.

One builder builds on the rock, the truth. While the other builder builds on sand, deception and lies.

One group of people spoke the name of Jesus, prophesied in His name and claimed to be His followers. But their words were tainted and deceitful, being spoken with impure motives of deception and greed.

The other group loved God and followed Him sincerely, giving Him their whole heart.

In verse 15, Jesus specifically discussed false prophets. He told the people that they would know these false prophets by their fruits.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Most times when we hear verse 20, we think of it as knowing believers by their fruits. In reality, though, Jesus was speaking directly about false prophets and false teachers.

So, let’s talk about that for a few minutes.

How do we know false teachers and false prophets? By what they say and what they teach.

Do they share the word of God in its entirety, in all of its truth and power, including those things that might not be so comfortable?

Or do they tend to avoid the topics that might be tough or uncomfortable, and move onto the things that are easier to hear and might not cause any kind of discomfort or controversy?

Do the words they speak focus mostly on how to get wealthy? Does their “gospel” revolve around money and success?

Do they speak only about “positive” things, but never address or discuss sin and its consequences?

Do they proclaim freedom from sin and bondage by the blood of Jesus? Or do they proclaim wealth, social acceptance and happiness for all believers in His name?

This is something that we all need to understand. We all need to know the difference between the truth and the lies.

We need to learn to recognize it. Why? Because our eternal destiny depends on it.

As Jesus continued to speak, He drew a very clear line of distinction between the path that leads to life and the path that leads to destruction.

And He did so with no apologies, as He said these words:

Matthew 7:21-23 (NKJV) 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Beware of false prophets and false teachers.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-24-19

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

When Jesus says to beware, what is He saying?

To beware of something means to be cautious and alert as to the danger of it. In other words, we need to be on guard, be alert.

Jesus compares false prophets to ravenous wolves. Ravenous wolves are considered very dangerous, vicious animals. They will bite and kill whatever they come in contact with.

These false prophets that we are to watch out for come to us in disguise. They appear to be gentle and harmless on the outside. But inside they are devious, and their motives are not what we think.

How can we discern them when we can’t see what people are like on the inside? The Bible tells us we will know them by their fruit.

Matthew 7:17 (NKJV) 17 Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

We look, we listen, we see with our own eyes and we will hear with our own ears what kind of fruit they produce.

Some things will stand out and be very loud and clear. Other things may be a little harder to discern, but the Holy Spirit will help us.

Take heed. Don’t be misled, and then when we are hurt, blame it on God or run away from Him.

He warns us.  We must be on our toes and discern the things around us. If we see them, don’t stick around to get bit. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-6-18

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

It’s sad we have to watch out for this kind of behavior in the church, but Jesus warned us for a reason. He knew that the enemy would stop at nothing to try to deceive us.

The enemy uses counterfeit spirits and counterfeit moves of God to pull us off track.

What does counterfeit mean? To make in exact imitation of something valuable or important with the intention to deceive or defraud.

When the devil wants to deceive us, he will do exactly this. He is going to make his deceitful ways look as much as he can like the real deal. He’s sneaky. And he uses people, even so-called prophets.

It can be very hard to know what he is up to if we try to spot it on our own. But, with the help of the Holy Spirit, it’s a different story.

There have been wonderful ministers, and people in leadership positions that have fallen because of the counterfeit working its way in and taking over.

Pray for the body of Christ today, that we will see what the enemy is up to, through discernment of the Holy Spirit, before it hits us and our church. That together we may stand up in the name of Jesus Christ and deal with it accordingly!

We need to make sure we don’t give the counterfeit, or false prophets, a voice or a place to settle into.

Kick out the enemy, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-17

1 John 4:1 (NKJV) 4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

God tells us plainly that we are to test the spirits. Not everyone who names the name of Jesus is genuine or is operating by the spirit of God.

Many will come in an effort to deceive us. Some will be very subtle. Others will be blatant in their efforts. It’s those who use subtlety that we need to be the most concerned with.

Most will use the name of Jesus very boldly, making it appear that they are accurate with the things they speak, and are sent by God.

Speaking something that we don’t necessarily agree with doesn’t make someone a false prophet. But if what they speak is contrary to the word of God, or it twists the word of God for their own purposes and agendas, then we need to be cautious and weigh what they say very carefully.

The biggest danger always lies with those who wrap lies in the truth. This is common when scripture is taken out of context, or when truth is used to lead people to believe a lie. These are the ravenous wolves Jesus spoke of.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

On the outside, they appear as sheep, speaking words of truth. But under the surface, they propagate lies that masquerade as truth.

It’s important that we take the things that we are taught, and the things that we hear, and we weigh them carefully next to the word of God.

You see, even evil spirits will speak words of truth through men and women. It’s up to us to let God’s spirit help us to discern them and divide truth from lies.

Silas and the Apostle Paul ran into this when they were on their way to prayer, many days in a row. A young girl followed them and declared “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.”

But Paul, who allowed the spirit of God to show him what this was really about, saw that this was a spirit of divination. He became irritated with the girl and put a stop to it.

Acts 16:18 (NKJV) 18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

So, we need to pay close attention to people’s words and discern them accurately. It can mean the difference between following truth and following lies.

Test the spirits.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-7-16

Galatians 1:9-10 (NKJV) 9 As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed. 10 For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

The gospel of Jesus is not always popular. In fact, it can be controversial and even seen as combative by some.

Why? Because it speaks truth without compromise. There is no middle ground. There is truth or there is a lie. Jesus Himself said that everything He did and said was from His Father in heaven.

When Jesus spoke, people either loved Him or hated Him. Those who loved Him embraced what He said, even if it might have hurt their feelings, because they knew that what He said was good for them.

Those who hated Him did so because His words addressed the sin and hypocrisy in their lives. But instead of embracing those words and letting God speak to them and change their hearts, they chose to “shoot the messenger”, so to speak.

So it is important that we know that what we hear from others is the word of God and not some watered down, sugar coated or otherwise perverted version of the gospel. It’s critical that we test what we’re told and use God’s word as the standard by which everything else is measured and judged for authenticity.

And remember that some things might sound really good. They might even sound a lot like God’s word without actually being God’s word. And many times what we hear can be exciting or even exhilarating, and it might make us feel so good! But that doesn’t make it the truth.

So let’s be careful about what we listen to, watch or read. And test the spirits behind those things.

1 John 4:1 (NKJV) 4 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-3-16

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Knowing the inward motive of some people is very hard at times. That’s why we need the Holy Spirit to help guide and direct us.

It’s hard sometimes to discern people and the motive behind their actions, especially if we are a person that loves, if we a person that is sincere in what we do and we are a trusting person. We don’t look at people in that way, because our hearts have been changed.

For us to know the inward motives of people we will have to listen for the Helper, the Holy Spirit. He will give us discernment.

On the surface, the ravenous wolf looks good, sounds good and has exciting and wonderful things to offer. He/she is smooth and slick. They come dressed in normal clothing, they don’t stand out in a way where we can see them or spot them. They blend in very well.

It is through discernment that they will be exposed.

Not to fear them, but to be aware of them and what they represent. Take note and listen. God is faithful to show us.

It takes wisdom and listening, not letting our emotions get caught in a trap in what we see and like.

John 15:26 (NKJV) 26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

Our Helper speaks truth. He will keep us on track with the things of God. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-4-12

(2 Peter 2:1-2 NKJV)  But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. {2} And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

False teachers. They are more numerous than we know.

Some are obvious to the wise and discerning, but others are smooth and subtle, blending into the body of Christ undetected, bring with them spirits of darkness, such as division, false teachings, idolatry and more.

Some will stand and preach what sounds like good words, encouraging people, even speaking of God, but watering down the truth until it is barely truth anymore.

Others will bring “new revelations” into the church, sharing with the body “what God has revealed to them”, capturing people’s attention.

Sadly, many of these “new revelations” are just old, pagan or outright demonic  teachings being brought into the church under the guise of being Biblical.

We need to be ever so vigilant today, discerning every little thing that comes our way, testing it and comparing it to God’s word. If it deviates from the foundations of truth laid out in the Bible, we need to turn and walk away from it.

We don’t have to go far to find any of these teachings. They’re everywhere; on TV, on the internet, in magazines and on the bookshelves of many stores. And they all carry the label of “Christian” on them.

Test the spirits. Look for the fruits. Seek God. He is faithful to show us if we’re faithful to ask Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-11-12

(Mat 7:15 NKJV)  “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Sadly, there are very many self-proclaimed prophets in the world today who claim to bring you the words of God pertaining to your life. Be very careful who you choose to listen to and follow.

The words of so many of these “prophets” read like a biblical fortune teller, claiming to tell you what to expect in your life… what has happened and what is going to come your way.

Discern very carefully as they try to sell you their $25 books and $50 CD sets for you to hear “what God has to say to you in these end times”.

Weigh every single thing you hear, read and see against the true word of God. Let God show you who is legitimate and who is not.

The words of these wolves in sheep’s clothing are very dangerous and are spoken with only one goal in mind; to draw you into their den where you become their victim.

God is faithful to show us who is real and who is not, if we only ask Him to. Choose your spiritual food very carefully, people of God!
