Bible Verse of The Day – 1-3-17

2 Corinthians 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Have you ever closed your eyes and tried to walk around? It’s not easy.

First of all, the moment you close your eyes everything goes dark. Second, if you try to walk or move around, you end up bumping into things and stumbling around.

When we first start trying to walk by faith, it can feel like we’re trying to walk with our eyes closed. Everything is unfamiliar and it can seem like we’re about to stumble and fall down.

But this is normal. We learn to walk based on what we see. It’s human nature. So to start walking by faith, without being able to see everything that’s ahead with our natural eyes, it can be a bit scary and intimidating.

But just like anything that’s new to us, walking by faith will become more natural as we do it more.

We may start out by trusting God with little things. And then we move on to bigger things. And as we do this, we become more and more comfortable with walking based on what we can’t see and less dependent on what we can see.

It won’t happen overnight, so don’t expect it to. And don’t be disappointed if you have a hard time adjusting to it.

But here’s the key to successfully living your life walking by faith. Take your eyes off of walking by faith and put them squarely on God. Build your relationship with Him. Press into Him and learn of Him. And as you do this, you will learn to hear His voice more clearly.

And when we can hear His voice clearly, we will have no trouble walking by faith, even when we can see nothing in front of us with our natural eyes.

But our spiritual eyes will now be sharp and clear. And we will be able to see things that our natural eyes would never be able to see.

Set your eyes on Him and you will never be afraid to walk by faith ever again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-9-16

John 9:6-7 (NKJV) 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

He spit into His hands and made mud. Not what most people would expect to happen if they ask to be healed.

God hasn’t changed. He still does these types of things today. Oh, He might not be standing in front of us, making mud from dirt and saliva. But when we ask Him to do something, He still wants us to follow through and do the things He asks us to do!

Asking God for something doesn’t mean that we ask Him and then simply sit back and do nothing, waiting for Him to take care of everything for us. He will almost always require us to take some kind of step or steps to show our faith.

Jesus sent the man in the verses above to go and wash in the pool. When he obeyed, his sight was restored. Naaman was told by Elisha to dip himself in the Jordan River 7 times. When he obeyed, he was healed of leprosy.

Sometimes the things that God tells us to do won’t make a bit of sense to our minds. That’s because He wants us to listen and act by the Spirit, not by our intellectual understanding.

And once we start to understand this, and we start to obey God when He speaks to us, we will start to see more things happen in our lives that defy logic.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-15-16

James 1:6-8 (NKJV) 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

A double-minded man is someone that has faith sometimes and then others times has no faith at all.

A double-minded man is drawn in two opposite directions, thinking sometimes God will help him and other times He won’t, leaving this type of man to feel lonely and hopeless at times in his life.

Double minded people want to be able to see things and figure things out on their own. They only have faith when it makes sense to their heads. So when they can’t figure it out, they think it’s over and they are done. That’s not true faith.

Such a person is unstable in all his ways, not only in his prayer life, but in every part of his walk. His lack of consistency in faith will cause him to be confused and not know what steps to take at times.

How do we get past this? How do we become a sound-minded man?

We take all that we know, all that we learned over the years and throughout our lives, and we surrender it to God. We give Him a place in us to help take what we have learned and show us exactly the correct way of looking at it all, bringing balance, correction and instruction.

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

There is pride working in a double-minded man. They have not fully surrendered it all to God.

You see, we think that God only wants to help us when we are in trouble. We think that He is only there for us for big problems or things we can’t control on our own.

But in reality, God is here for us every minute and every second of our lives.

We have to learn to share our life with Him. Let Him stop us in our tracks if we need it and show us something DIFFERENT, something NEW. Something we didn’t think of or already know.

Stay steady in the faith, always looking to God for His answer, even if we think we’ve got this one.

Bible Verse of The Day – 10-28-16

Habakkuk 2:4(NKJV) 4 “Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith.

The proud are those who can never take no for an answer. The proud are those who think they can take care of themselves. The proud are those who see themselves sinking, but will not ask for help or take the steps toward making things right. The proud refuse help from God, because of their very own hearts.

They cannot blame it on anyone but themselves. Pride comes from within.

We don’t want to be the proud. We want to be the just.

The just will humble themselves and ask for help. The just will acknowledge that they have weaknesses and are willing to take one day at a time and work on them with the help that God provides.

The just are those who believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of the Almighty God. And their salvation, strength, understanding, wisdom and provision come from Him alone. The just will learn to take no for an answer and wait on the promise of God to come forth.

Who are we today? Are we the proud or are we the JUST? If we are the just then we need to walk in faith and stop trying to do everything ourselves.

We need to obey what God is saying to our hearts, no matter what things look like in front of us, and move forward in what He is saying to do.

Noah had to have faith in what God said to him in order to build the ark. Moses had to have faith in God to lead the Israelites out of bondage and captivity. Mary had to have faith in God to give birth to our Messiah despite being a virgin. Peter had to have faith in order to walk on water. There are so many things that happened in God’s word when the JUST obeyed God’s word and lived by faith.

We don’t just visit faith. We, His children, LIVE by faith, move in faith and breathe in faith.

What is God speaking to us today? Our steps taken in faith and obedience will get us there.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-1-16

Matthew 8:26 (NKJV) 26 But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.

What is the size of our faith? Are we very little in faith? Are we just doing enough to keep us content?

In order to grow our faith we have to take steps and sometimes those steps are very scary and uncomfortable. Sometimes the steps can make us angry and mad, because we like where we are at and we don’t want things to change.

But these are the very steps that bring humility. And the very steps that may challenge our own understanding and cause us to stand stronger in God’s promises.

They cause us to rely on Him, to seek Him for the next step and to follow Him in obedience. These steps cause us to look to Him when we are used to relying on ourselves. Ouch.

Whatever it is that God is calling us to do, we need to step out! Not on our own, but with Him beside us, guiding us and with us standing strong on His promise, His word.

Don’t step out thinking “we’ve got this”. Step out knowing that if it is what He is asking us to do, that He’s got this.

Matthew 14:29 (NKJV) 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

When Peter stepped out of the boat, He knew He did not have what it took to stand on that water. But He knew the One who DID!

Peter didn’t need to step out of the boat. If you’re on the water, being in the boat would seem like the logical place to be, right?

But if Peter never stepped out of what he may have thought was the best place to be at that moment, or if he never stepped out of his place of being content or feeling safe, he would never ever have experienced what real faith could do for him at that very moment.

How many today are in a safe place of contentment, thinking it’s the best place to be?

Is Jesus calling us to take a step of faith? Is He asking us to step out of that place of comfort and contentment and get a glimpse of His miraculous work, His Might, His Power and His FAITHFULNESS?

Are we stuck today in what we think is the best place for us to be? Are we missing out on seeing a miracle in our life?

This is not something we do on our own, out of presumption or based on emotion. Just as Jesus called Peter out, He will call, or prompt us, in His timing. And if He does, it will be personal and in a unique way.

It may be something small, or it may be something big. It may be something we’ve never even thought of doing. But if it is Jesus prompting us and asking us, let’s take that step of faith in Him. Watch Him move!

Let Him grow our faith today as He leads us to take steps in certain directions and areas of our lives.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-9-16

Job 19:25 (NKJV) 25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;

Job went through some serious stuff! His entire life was turned upside down in less than 24 hours.

During that short period of time, he lost his children and all of his earthly possessions. The only thing he had left was his wife and a few friends. And even his wife and friends were no help to him as he went through his trials.

But despite the severe trials that Job faced and went through, he never lost his faith in God.

We always hear about the patience of Job, which is somewhat true. But even more than patience, Job had strong faith. Had he not had strong faith, he would have turned his back on God and walked away.

But even after everything he went through, Job could boldly say “I know that my Redeemer lives”.

Let Job be an example for all of us to follow in our own lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-8-16

Matthew 15:21-23(NKJV) 21 Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. 22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” 23 But He answered her not a word.

How many of us feel like sometimes we ask God for help and we don’t hear or see anything happen or change?

We have to first know where our help needs to come from. If we are just trying it to see if it will work, there is no faith in that.

This Canaanite woman knew her mercy and help needed to come from Christ alone. At first He did not answer her. Not even a word.

What would we do at this point? Would we say, “Well, that didn’t work. Let me try something else”?

After He did not answer her, she didn’t get mad or give up. She didn’t try something else. No. She took the next step. She worshipped Him.

Matthew 15:25 (NKJV) 25 Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”

Not giving up and keeping a good attitude is ONE of the things we all need to learn to do. Answers aren’t always going to come in the way or in the timing that we think they should. It may take certain steps in getting our answer and we need to press in instead of walking away.

As soon as this woman showed Jesus that her faith and trust was in Him, her daughter was healed from that hour. From that HOUR! Woo hoo!

Matthew 15:26-27 (NKJV) 26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” 27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

It was in her response and actions toward Him that He saw her faith. Maybe He is waiting to see our faith and how we will respond to Him today.

Matthew 15:28 (NKJV) 28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

May our response and our actions today show Him that our faith remains in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-30-16

Psalm 46:10 (NKJV) 10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Be still.

Those are probably two of the hardest words we will ever be told by God to carry out.

Being still when we’re going through trials requires that we trust God 100%. It takes a lot of faith to sit still when things are crumbling around us. But being still is what God says to do.

He wants us to be still so we don’t get frantic and rely solely on our intellect or our logical mind to try to fix everything. Instead, He wants us to have faith and trust Him to help us.

And He wants us to listen for His voice, through the Holy Spirit, so He can tell us what to do.

Most times, our minds are so busy trying to come up with solutions to our problems that we can’t hear Him when he does speak to us. This is why He tells us to be still.

It’s easy, when everything is going well, for us to say that we trust God. But when things get difficult, and the rubber meets the road, that’s when we get tested. That’s when “walking in faith” can be the most difficult.

But it’s then, during those trying times, that we need our faith even more.

Living and walking by faith takes time and practice to adjust to. It doesn’t just happen overnight because we want it to. But as we begin to trust God and be still in little things, we will find it easier and easier to do in bigger things.

So start today. Trust Him and be still. Know that He is God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-16

Romans 10:17 (NKJV) 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Today, let’s talk about how we grow our faith!

Without faith, we can’t believe God for anything at all. Period. And without faith, we can’t please God.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

So it’s safe to say that faith is very, very important!

God has given each of us a measure of faith. It’s part of who we are as believers. None of us lacks faith.

Romans 12:3 (NKJV) 3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

What we do with that measure of faith is up to us.

We can hide it away. We can leave it alone. Or we can grow it.

Just like a muscle, faith needs to be fed and exercised in order to grow. So how do we grow our faith? How do we take that measure of faith that God has given us and make it bigger, so that living by faith becomes a way of life, instead of something that we struggle with?

We feed that faith with the only thing that can sustain it and grow it; God’s word.

God’s word is our food. It’s our sustenance. It’s what keeps us thriving, growing and maturing.

God’s word will take us from being spiritual infants to becoming mature adults in Christ. As we feed on His word, we will grow in our faith, and we will begin to see things differently. Things will start to “click” and we will begin to have a deeper understanding of spiritual things. And our walk with God will flourish!

The things of God will become the most important part of our lives as we spend time in His word and our faith grows.

And as our faith grows, we will find it easier to step out and do things that God asks us to do, without it having to always make sense to our logic and our intellect.

It’s kind of like our spiritual life is a chain made up of links, and our faith is the most important link. If our faith is weak, so will the chain be weak. But if our faith is strong, the whole chain will be strong!

And as our faith becomes stronger, God will give us new eyes, new ears and a new heart that will see, hear and beat with a desire to walk closely with Him and please Him in everything that we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-7-16

Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) 11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

What is faith?

This is a question asked by millions around the world just about every day.

First, here’s what faith is not.

Faith is not hype.
Faith is not emotionalism.
Faith is not weird.
Faith is not flaky.

Here’s what faith is: Believing something in our hearts that our heads can’t comprehend or understand, and being perfectly OK with that.

By faith, we trust God with our eternal destiny. We believe that Jesus died for us, rose from the dead and ascended to heaven.

By faith we believe that our sins are forgiven, simply by putting our faith in Christ and asking to be forgiven. There is no special song and dance we need to perform. We ask. We believe. We receive.

We don’t even question any of these things until we start trying to figure them out or try to make sense of them with our intellect. Only then does our faith begin to falter.

Don’t try to figure it out. Don’t try to make sense of it. Don’t try to get it to fit into an intellectual mold.

Faith can’t be figured out with logic or reasoning. It doesn’t make sense to our heads and it can never, ever be made to fit into any kind of intellectual box or mold.

Faith. It is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-16

Numbers 13:17 (NKJV) 17 Then Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan…

The Israelites had been wandering in the desert for many years. As they encamped close to the land that God had promised them, Moses commanded some of the men to go and spy out the land.

So Caleb and others went and did as they were told. And then they returned with their report.

The fruit was larger than anything they had ever seen. The land truly flowed with milk and honey. The land was just as God had promised.

But some of them reported a problem. The cities were fortified and very large. And the people who dwelt there were extremely large in stature… giants. The Israelites saw themselves as grasshoppers in their own site when compared to these men. They were all very fearful and thought it best not to invade this land.

They saw things through eyes of fear.

But Caleb spoke up and told them that they could very well go in and possess the land!

Numbers 13:30 (NKJV) 30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Caleb saw things through eyes of faith. And he was one of the people who was eventually able to go in and possess the land. While those who doubted never entered in.

There will be times when God asks us to do something that appears to be impossible if we look at it through natural eyes and intellect.

Caleb and Joshua were able to go in and possess the land because they had faith. They trusted God and His promise to them.

This is a great lesson for all of us. When God asks us to do something that seems impossible in the natural, will we have faith enough to trust Him and do what He asks?

How will we see things? Through eyes of fear or eyes of faith?

A great question for us to ponder on today 🙂
