Category: Encouraging Others

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-7-24

Acts 4:36-37 (NKJV) 36 And Joses, who was also named Barnabas by the apostles (which is translated Son of Encouragement), a Levite of the country of Cyprus, 37 having land, sold it, and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Throughout the book of  Acts we can see by his actions that Barnabas was an encourager.

He was sent out by the other disciples to encourage the people, that they would continue to preach after the persecution of Stephen.

Acts 11:23 (NKJV) 23 When he came and had seen the grace of God, he was glad, and encouraged them all that with purpose of heart they should continue with the Lord.

He encouraged them to keep going, keep doing what God put in their hearts to do!

Saul, who later became Paul, was initially not accepted by the disciples. But thank God for Barnabas; he took him in and let him work alongside him despite him being rejected by the others.

We all need a Barnabas in our lives.

He surely understood giving people a chance.

God had touched Saul’s life and he had done a complete turnaround. He went from persecuting Christians to becoming an on-fire-for-God Christian!

But the disciples, being cautious, had a hard time believing this. And they were afraid to let him in.

They sent him to Tarsus. But Barnabas went after Saul, took him in, and together, over the next year, they taught a great many people.

Acts 11:25-26 (NKJV) 25 Then Barnabas departed for Tarsus to seek Saul. 26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

God changed Saul’s name to Paul.

Paul and Barnabas did a great ministry work together. And Paul wanted to go back with Barnabas to every city they had visited to see how the people there were doing.

But a disagreement arose when Barnabas was determined to take with them John, called Mark.

This same disciple had previously abandoned both Paul and Barnabas. And Paul insisted that they not bring him along.

Acts 13:13 (NKJV) 13 Now when Paul and his party set sail from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia; and John, departing from them, returned to Jerusalem.

But Barnabas, “the encourager”, was determined to bring him along.

This brought contention between Barnabas and Paul, and they went their separate ways.

Later, Paul did change his mind about how he felt about Mark.

Colossians 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, with Mark the cousin of Barnabas (about whom you received instructions: if he comes to you, welcome him),

Barnabas brought encouragement wherever he went. He helped give people chances that would later impact the world positively for the kingdom of God.

Let us learn from Barnabas, even if we know what someone has done in their past.

And as God leads us in this, give them time to learn. Time to see their error and fix it if they are willing to do so.

Let us encourage them, not throw them away.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-4-24

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV) 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

When people want to comfort others, they will often say things like, “we are here for you if you need anything at all.”

These words can make all the difference in the world when we hear them. Even if we may never need to call on them, just knowing they are willing to be there is huge! It brings great comfort.

We have had many of you comfort us with such kindness and sincerity on this journey. And you have truly been there for us. Thank you for comforting and bring edification to us at times with words and actions from your heart.

Thank God for those who will step up to the plate and be that one who will follow through.

We are here for you; five words that can bring such rest to a weary mind.

Yes, it is a sacrificial statement on one’s part. And we will feel the responsibility of it if we truly mean it.

Struggling people will take such words and hold them dear.

They are counting on these spoken words that hit them in their heart to get them through.

God bless you for your willingness “to be there” when needed. It’s comforting and means everything to someone who is going through a rough spot in their walk.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-7-19

Romans 12:15 (NKJV) 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

As believers, God wants us to be encouraging and supportive of those around us. It’s one of the ways that we emulate God and shine His light for everyone to see.

This holds true, whether we are surrounded by believers or by unbelievers.

It’s easy to be godly when we are surrounded by other believers. But when surrounded by unbelievers, not so much.

Do we carry God’s spirit within us? Absolutely! If so, then we shouldn’t have a major problem with being kind and supportive of anyone that God tells us to be kind and supportive of!

Now, that doesn’t mean that it will always be easy. On the contrary, it will sometimes be quite difficult. But that doesn’t excuse us from doing it.

Sometimes we just have to bear down and take the heat, so to speak, as we do what God has told us we need to do.

It might not always give us the “warm fuzzies” while we’re doing it, especially if we are being persecuted or treated poorly. But our eyes need to be kept on the goal, the prize that God’s word speaks of, not on the here and now.

As we push through and obey God’s leading, He will be our reward. He is the One we live to please.

Empathy is something that God wants us to learn and carry out in our lives as we compassionately interact with others.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-15-18

Psalm 92:4 (NKJV) 4 For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands.

How many of us today can testify of some pretty hard things we have gone through in our lives?

We may have had to go through it, and we were probably very scared at times. However, praise be to God, we triumphed over it through the works of God’s hands and we have moved on to better days! Amen.

Well, today someone else may be going through some pretty hard times, maybe even similar to what we have gone through. There are times that God will use our hardship experiences to share with others, to bring encouragement.

Are we willing to open up and share those memories, even though they were hard? Our greatest way to help others at times is to share the things God has brought us through.

It brings encouragement to others and brings glory to God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-9-17

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

We want to encourage each one of you today and remind you that you are mighty in God! His strength moves in us and through us. Keep looking to Him for the answers in our own lives, and for His help with encouraging others with our words.

Words are powerful and can do many things to a person.

Don’t be afraid to speak out as God leads us in sharing the things He has brought us through. Those are our words of encouragement for others. They bring life, to help others get through their struggles, and to help them see that there is hope for the hopeless.

Our story may be the very thing that a person needs to hear at that moment. The things God helped us through could be the answer to their problems.

We can’t let our testimony get lost in the hustle and bustle all around us. But keep it fresh and dear to our hearts, protected and safe. And use it when God says to speak it. It is powerful! It is uplifting and encouraging to those who are ready to listen.

Our words should have purpose; to comfort, to help and to edify one another.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV) 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-15

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NKJV) 11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

It is good to encourage others.

We never know what people are going through in their lives. Sometimes the words we speak to them can make their day and help them get over a hurdle. Sometimes our kind actions can give them strength to keep going on when they wanted to give up.

God tells us to comfort and edify each other. Why?

Because He created us to be a body; many members, with one heart and one purpose. He knew that we could do better as a unit than as many individuals on our own.

Encouraging others doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated. Sometimes it’s as simple as smiling at someone. Sometimes it just means saying hi and letting someone know you care.

Other times, it may require a bit more effort, like maybe lending someone a helping hand with something. Or maybe a visit to the hospital when someone is sick or has had surgery.

And sometimes it might even mean helping someone in other ways, like buying them groceries or something similar.

But God is faithful to show us when people need to be encouraged. We just have to be willing to hear Him and obey 🙂
