Bible Verse of The Day – 10-30-24

Psalm 51:12 (LSB) 12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit.

Th entire 51st Psalm is a prayer of David after being confronted by the prophet, Nathan.

Nathan had reprimanded David for his affair with Bathsheba and the subsequent murder of her husband, Uriah.

This prayer in its entirety is an incredible expose` on the topic of sin, repentance, God’s mercy, and the forgiveness of God.

As David was confronted with the enormity and the moral gravity of his sins, he immediately repented before God and cried out for His mercy.

He knew his sins were great. But he also understood that God’s mercy was bigger.

His statement above is interesting.

He asked God to restore the joy of His salvation.

His heart had failed in making the decision to commit adultery with Bathsheba. But it had failed exponentially more with his decision to try to cover up that sin with the the murder of her husband.

One wrong choice was leading to many other wrong choices. And they were beginning to pile up.

The weight of his guilt was crushing him. And now he was asking God to restore his joy; the joy that comes with God’s mercy and redemption.

This is what sets David apart from so many others. He sincerely wanted to do right. He wanted to please God and serve Him wholly.

So, when he dropped the ball and did something wrong, he did not run from it or try to pass the blame onto someone else.

He stood up like a mature man of God and did what was required to make things right, even knowing that the repercussions might be painful and hard to bear.

May we all do likewise, willingly admitting our failures, and laying them before God in repentance, seeking His mercy and correction.

And then walking out what He shows us to do, that we would not be separated from Him by our sins.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-5-24

John 3:19-20 (NKJV) 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

Human beings love darkness. Not necessarily the darkness that comes when the sun goes down each day. But spiritual darkness; actions and behaviors that are sinful.

Our flesh craves worldly, fleshly satisfaction.

It loves things that make it feel good, even if only for a fleeting moment.

So many things can be destroyed by choices we make based on emotional impulses, apart from the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Marriages can be decimated. Friendships can be forever altered. Careers can be crushed. Fortunes can be lost.

How? By fleshly desires that we let get out of control.

When we live and walk by the flesh, we fail to recognize that we are dirty. We do not see the depth of darkness operating in our lives.

Think of it like this. Pigs live most of their lives caked in mud. Wallowing in it is natural to them. They have no understanding that they are dirty. They just know that they like mud because it keeps them cool and repels flies.

As humans without God, we are in a comparable situation.

We wallow in things that make us dirty. Unlike the pigs, our wallowing is not for protective purposes. It is to try to satisfy our fleshly desires.

We may not understand that we are dirty, but we are, nonetheless.

And our wallowing will destroy us if left unchecked.

If a pig is given a bath, it will waste no time getting back into the mud and the slop. They cannot be kept clean for long!

But we humans are offered a “bath” that washes us clean forever if we choose to accept it.

It is the blood of Christ, administered by way of the grace and mercy of God Himself.

If we choose to apply it, this blood washes us clean. It makes us new. And it transforms us, taking us from darkness to light.

And that precious blood will do more than keep flies away. It will help us repel the attacks of the enemy if we let it and if we choose to employ the tools and weapons He equips us with.

And once that blood washes us, we will never be the same, leaving behind the ways of darkness, exchanging them for a new life lived by the power of the Holy Spirit!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-20-23

Romans 8:28 (NKJV) 28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

Many Christians will often quote this verse.

It is a piece of Biblical wisdom that has withstood the test of time and has held true down through the centuries.

Sometimes this verse may seem inappropriately overquoted, to the point where it seems to lose some of its meaning.

And rightly so, since people do sometimes tend to use certain phrases loosely.

But that doesn’t mean that it has lost its meaning. God is faithful. He never changes, and His word never loses its truth.

If many of us were to look at our own lives, we would see that this verse speaks truth, and many of us can testify to that truth.

On a personal level, I can look back at many situations in my own life that looked very bleak on the surface, especially to my human eyes.

But as each one played out, God showed me how He works, and how He can take bad and turn it into good.

Does this mean that nothing bad will happen to us?

No. Bad things happen. And they even happen to good people, including God’s children.

Jesus told us this. He said trials and tribulations will come. But He also told us to be of good cheer, and to find our peace in Him, because He has overcome the world.

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

So, it’s important that we trust God even during storms and hard times. And especially during times when we feel like we don’t understand what is happening.

It is these kinds of situations that can be used to strengthen our faith and trust in God if we allow Him to use them as such.

It is seldom easy, but each hard thing that we face holds the opportunity to bring us closer to God and grow as a believer. We just need to make the choice to let God guide our every step, our every thought and our every word.

Romans 5:3-4 (NKJV) 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-12-23

Philippians 4:6 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God…

This is something we all need to work on.

It’s not easy. But if we really look at it, we will see that the biggest thing is just learning to lean on God for all things, including those new things that come our way; those very things that make us anxious.

Trust in Him to show us how to deal with it.

Being anxious is just us wanting to get it over with. Whatever it is, we just want to get at it.

Most times we want to see if we can handle it. And we don’t won’t to wait, we want a resolution, and let’s just hurry up with it.

If we trust God we won’t be anxious.

We would know that no matter what it is, we will be fine. He will help us wherever we lack.

Now, that may seem like oversimplification. But it is the truth at the very core of us being anxious when we face change.

The verse above tells us to be anxious for nothing.

And what does it say after that?

But in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let Him know what we are facing and the concerns we have about it.

He will come through for us every time.

Why? Because faith is at work. Peace is at work. And we are calm enough to heed His instructions and obey His steps. Amen.

Proverbs 9:9 (NKJV) 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-14-23

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV) 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness

This verse is one that applies to so many areas of our walk with God. It states very plainly the most foundational principle for building a sound relationship with Him; put Him first.

With that said, there are many things that will vie for our time and attention, attempting to replace our love for God as our highest priority.

And I dare say that some of these are labeled as Christian ideals.

Sadly, a percentage of leaders and teachers in the body of Christ resort to sales-like tactics to promote their latest ideas in an effort to make them catchy or appealing.

This isn’t necessarily done to sell us a product, but to motivate people to jump onboard with them and ride the wave, so to speak, which helps make them more popular and allows them to reach more people.

And this is done in the name of building a bigger following.

While these things are wrapped in “Christianese”, it doesn’t make them God-derived.

On the contrary, they are typically figments of the person’s imagination.

We call these “shiny objects”.

We give them that name because they are presented in a way that tries to grab our attention and get us to follow along, thinking that we’re doing something that will build our walk with God.

More often than not, these are just fads that pass away rather quickly, leaving the believer looking for the next shiny object; the next wave to ride.

Beware of the shiny object syndrome. It has permeated much of the church.

It can be found in books. It can be found in “Christian” teaching videos. And it can be found in church services, all lurking amidst the flock under the guise of the newest “word from God” or the latest “thing that God is doing”.

Stick to God like glue. Immerse yourself in His word.

Look to Him for your inspiration. Let the Holy Spirit guide you. Test the spirits always! Your eternal destiny literally depends on it.

1 John 4:1 (NKJV) 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-2-22

Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV) 22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

Everyone loves blessings. They bring joy to us when we receive them.

Or it may seem that way at first.

Some blessings turn out not to be what we thought they were initially. Many things have attachments that we were unaware of until it’s too late.

And then that blessing becomes more like a curse.

That’s not so with the blessings of God, though!

The blessings that come from our Father in heaven make us rich.

Now, that doesn’t always refer to monetary wealth. Sometimes the blessings of God are way better than money or tangible things.

God’s blessings can often be things that we may have never thought of. But because He knows us better than we know ourselves, He knows exactly what we need. So, He bestows upon us something that He knows we need, and that He knows will be good for us.

As mentioned in the verse above, He adds no sorrow with it.

This means that it will never cause us any kind of frustration, stress or aggravation. It will bring only good.

It may require responsibility on our part to handle it properly, but the blessing itself will not be problematic.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer the blessings of God over the blessings of the world.
