John 10:18 (NKJV) 18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father.”
In this verse, Jesus is speaking about the fact that He will be laying down His life. He specifically says He will do it willingly. He also said that no one can take it from Him. He did what he did of His own accord.
As followers of Christ, we have His example to follow in our day to day lives.
We won’t usually be required to lay our lives down in the literal sense, whereby we cease to exist. But we should be willing to lay our lives down for others in many other ways.
God has blessed each and every one of us in many, many ways. We all have skills, talents and abilities that he has given us. We need to make sure that we are using those skills, abilities and talents to be a blessing to others around us.
All of us know someone who could use our help or assistance in some way. Maybe it’s something small. Maybe it’s something major. Either way, we are accountable to our Father and we need to make sure we’re handling our blessings properly.
Many reading this have been blessed financially. If that’s the case, those finances should also be used to help others, as God leads and directs. Many times it’s easy to spend our money on things that we don’t really need. Because we are barraged with advertisements and social media, we feel like we’re missing out on things if we don’t run out and buy them.
But, as with our skills and talents, we need to be willing to obey God’s voice and use the finances He has blessed us with to bless others who might be in need. It’s always easy to think that “someone else will do it”. But we need to remember that we are that someone else.
And as we follow Jesus and grow in our walk with Him, we should find it easier and easier to lay our lives down for others.

My daughter, CARA , who is now 42 years old, was born with MS. However , it wasn’t diagnosed until her late 20’s, which is not uncommon. Unfortunately, she had breast cancer and God has 100% cured her. She did have to get chemotherapy. This chemo could have serious side effects relating to her MS and it did. She cannot work and she has been denied SS disability twice. We , my wife and I , have been helping her financially for about six months now. We pay all her bills, mortgage etc. not until I read this verse this morning and found out how “rich” I am. I thank God everyday for giving me what I have. I was moaning somewhat about the money ($2,200) monthly. Now I will never moan again. Thank you Jesus for giving me good health and the opportunity to have what I have and be able to share it. Please, pray for my daughter as she was recently diagnosed with ” progressive MS ” which is the worst type. I ask you once again to pray for my daughter, CARA. God Bless You and thank you to allow me to vent a little. But I am so greatful because God gave me what I have today. Amen.
Thank you for sharing this with us. We have prayed for Cara and will continue to lift all of you up in prayer. Please feel free to keep us updated in the situation as you all move forward.
It’s amazing how God will quietly tap us on the shoulder sometimes and remind us how blessed we are, when all along we have been complaining about something that He has us doing for someone. We’re glad that He used this devotional for your own personal “tap on the shoulder” 🙂
Regarding Cara’s attempts to get approved for SS disability, we will send you an email with info that might help you and her in this area.
