1 Kings 19:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
A still small voice. It’s how God chooses to speak.
He could easily speak through more fantastic and dramatic means, such as wind, earthquakes, fire, thunder & lightning and other loud ways.
But He chooses a still small voice. Why?
One of the reasons is because God doesn’t always want us to make choices based on what’s obvious. The obvious takes no faith to trust in. It’s just obvious, and lacking in the sense that it requires no spiritual maturity and no faith to see it, hear it or find it.
God doesn’t necessarily try to make things hard for us to see, hear or find, but He does do things in a way that require us to use discernment and spiritual understanding in order to make right decisions.
The things of God don’t always make sense to our minds. But they do make sense to our spirits, if our spirits are in tune with His.
So our goal should always be to get God’s wisdom and understanding, which will make it easier for us to discern spirits and hear God when He speaks.
Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.
