Part 3
1 Peter 3:18 (NKJV) 18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit…
Let’s get started with part 3 today!
Now that we know that our faith in Jesus makes us righteous in the eyes of God, let’s talk about why that’s so important.
What is the result of Jesus (the just) dying for us (the unjust)?
That He might bring us to God.
As we talked about in yesterday’s devotional, putting our faith in Christ makes us righteous (clean) in God’s sight. This brings us to God (removes the barrier of sin between us and Him).
And, because the veil of the temple was torn in two when Jesus breathed His last breath, we now have direct access to Him, with no need for priests acting as an intermediary.
So, as we can see, when Jesus died for us, He conquered sin, shedding His blood that we might be made clean.
And He conquered death when God raised Him from the dead, giving us hope also of eternal life with Him, even though our earthly bodies will eventually die.
Isn’t it amazing what we find even in one small verse if we’re willing to let the Holy Spirit reveal it to us, and if we’re willing to take the time and make the effort to dig in and see what’s beyond the surface?
Remember; because of the sacrifice that Jesus made, if we have put our faith in Him, we are now clean before God, because He made the ultimate (perfect) sacrifice for us.
The Old Covenant has been done away with, and we can approach God boldly (directly) because the veil of the temple was torn in two, giving us direct access to the holy of holies.
Matthew 27:50-51 (NKJV) 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split…
