Psalm 46:10 (NKJV) 10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
During these last few weeks, those two words, “be still”, have been critical to my walk with God and my everyday life in the natural.
Seasons of change or times of trial can make us want to do things that we might not normally do.
When we’re facing the unknown and we don’t understand everything we’re seeing, we tend to want to take things into our own hands. We may begin making rash decisions. We might want to run away. Or we may feel like God has abandoned us.
It’s those times of change and difficulty, though, when we need to do the opposite. Instead of running away, hiding, trying to take control or feeling abandoned, we need to hold tightly to God, letting Him lead us through the changes we’re facing.
It’s not always easy to do. In fact, it can be downright difficult sometimes.
Our flesh fights us, almost as though it’s our enemy. And in some ways, it is. The flesh wars against our spirit as our spirit works to follow the Spirit of God. It’s a never-ending battle that can tire us out if we let it.
But instead of wrestling constantly, sometimes the best thing we can do is to stay still.
It’s in the stillness that we can hear God best. This is why it’s so important that we not get frantic, but quell our emotions as they try to lead us down roads of fear and doubt.
And as we learn to do this, to listen for the Spirit of God, and let Him lead, we will begin to walk in the peace of God that surpasses all understanding, allowing us to move forward on the path He has set before us.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
