Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-24

Zephaniah 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord’s anger.

In the verse above, Zephaniah is calling sinful Judah to repentance. They had pushed God out, and God was angry with them as a nation.

He was pleading with them to seek righteousness and humility, that it would help spare them from the Lord’s anger.

They were influenced by the world and no longer had a desire for God. They had become an undesirable nation; a shameless nation.

Zephaniah 2:1-2 (NKJV) 2 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation, 2 Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like chaff, Before the Lord’s fierce anger comes upon you, Before the day of the Lord’s anger comes upon you!

God calls us to refrain from getting caught up in the ways of the world.

We cannot let these things influence us. We must guard our hearts and make sure that we are staying true to God, always looking to Him for guidance and for His answers.

He wants us to lean on Him, to trust Him, rely on Him for everything!

The world will feed us its answers if we let it; whatever we want to hear, whatever feels good at the time.

It’s truly our decision to either walk out the word of God or walk in the ways of the world.

As Zephaniah pleaded with them to seek righteousness and humility, so does God call us to do the same.

We live in this world and although there are many temptations, God is right there, willing to help us turn from them if we are so willing to obey.

John 17:15-17 (NKJV) 15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. 17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Our prayer today is for God to keep us from the evil one. Help us seek righteousness and humility. May He sanctify us by His truth. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-29-24

Psalm 18:30 (NKJV) 30 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

His way is perfect.

What better way to sum up God and His ways?

Our human intellect can sometimes steer us wrong when it comes to God’s ways.

We become comfortable in our understanding. We depend solely on our intellect to get us through things we face.

And in doing so, we push God away without realizing it. We keep Him at arm’s length.

Then we wonder why He is silent.

That silence is often due to us expecting God to move or speak in a way that we understand or in the timing we demand.

Hindsight will always show us the error of our ways if we discern properly and allow God to teach us His ways.

This is where spending time in God’s word benefits us immensely. It shows us who He is. It teaches us His ways. It helps us better understand spiritual matters, leading to us having sharper discernment.

And as we develop spiritual understanding, we lean less on our own understanding.

Then our mind is blown as we are able to recognize God moving because we are no longer looking for Him with our natural eyes but giving preference instead to eyes led by the Holy Spirit.

And that is when we realize that He indeed is a shield to all who trust Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-28-24

1 Peter 2:24-25 (NKJV) 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness – by whose stripes you were healed. 25 For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

When Jesus Christ died on that cross, He broke the bondage that sin tried to keep us in. He set us free.

The sin that tried to hold us captive has no power over us.

We were completely set free from all that tries to keep us in prison. He says we were healed!

So, if we are healed, we must have been sick; sick from these addictions, weaknesses, etc. These things that have or previously had a grip on us would bring death with them, and would have destroyed our souls if not for the blood of Christ that brings freedom.

But praise God, He made a way through Jesus Christ, His Son!

Those addictions, lust, perversion, hate, jealousy, adultery, etc. have been broken and we can live a life of righteousness in Christ.

We may ask, “how can we? I’m so tempted at times”.

We know that as we cry out in His name, the name of Jesus Christ, and we resist the devil, he will flee.

James 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

We can’t love our sin and resist the devil at the same time. It won’t work. We must hate our sin and love Jesus. He will help us overcome the obstacle that pulls on our flesh.

We are all like sheep, heading astray. Every one of us. But through our Savior, the Overseer of our souls, we can be set free!

What hope we have in Him as His children! Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-24

Psalm 13:5-6 (NKJV) 5 But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. 6 I will sing to the Lord, Because He has dealt bountifully with me.

The 13th Psalm is a prayer of David.

In his prayer, David sought God, asking how long it would be before He answered David’s requests.

He wondered how long his enemy would be exalted over him.

He wrestled with the sorrow in his heart.

And he cried out for God to hear him and enlighten his eyes, lest he sleep the sleep of death.

It is very easy to see that David was in tough shape, badly needing God’s intervention on his behalf.

But David didn’t sulk. He didn’t walk away from God. And he didn’t abandon his faith in God.

What did he do?

He rejoiced in his salvation.

He sang to the Lord.

And he expressed his absolute trust in God, stating that God had dealt with him bountifully (abundantly).

This is a great lesson for us all to learn; to trust in God no matter what we face, whether He answers us right away, or we have to wait in silence.

He is worthy of our trust.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-24

1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NKJV) 1 Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

If we want good government, we must pray for all leaders in authority. Not just for the ones that we like or prefer, but all leaders.

They stand in a position, making decisions that can make us or break us at times. They can bring hardship and captivity or freedom and happiness!

How many times do we complain about what’s going on in the leadership of our country, our town, our schools, our workplace, our church, yet we have no time for prayer?

This is something we all need to take to heart. Prayer, intercession, and giving thanks; this is what will help us to live a peaceable life.

We all want to see change come. But it will only happen if we are steadfast in our prayers. God will move mountains if we pray with faith the size of a mustard seed!

Matthew 17:20 (NKJV) 20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

We need to be consistent in praying for those who have authority and responsibility over the church as well as throughout society.

We need to make it our focus to pray for our pastor, our teachers, our governors, our town council members, our president, vice president, etc. The same can be said for any others that stand in a position to bring change.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-25-24

Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV) 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…

As a husband, I want to know that I am pleasing God with the way I behave toward my wife, and the way I treat her.

It is important that, as men, we learn to be Christlike in our attitudes and our behavior toward our wives.

God created us as men. We are to be masculine. We are to be their protector. We are to be strong as we lead the home.

But we are not to be overbearing, controlling, or manipulative to make everything happen the way we want it to happen.

Jesus gave Himself for us, His bride. He literally laid down His life, surrendering to the will of the Father, that you and I might have life in Him.

This is our example when it comes to how we treat our wives.

We lead with strength. But that strength can often be demonstrated in meekness; being willing to give preference where preference is due. And being willing to admit when we are wrong when we know that we are.

Admitting we are wrong does not make us weak. Every person, whether man or woman, is wrong from time to time. Admitting our faults shows strength. Denying it shows weakness.

And, men, let us not fall into the trap of being domineering over our wives.

This, also, is a sure sign of weakness on our part as we mask our insecurities behind booming voices and military-like commands. And it will only cause resentment over time.

Let us love them genuinely, treating them with the respect they deserve.

Let us lead as Christ leads His body, with decisiveness, but meekness.

Let us lead in a way that assures them we would lay down our lives for them, even though that situation may never arise.

Husbands, love your wives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-23-24

Acts 8:14 (NKJV) 14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them…

As we can see in this verse, the Samaritans received the word of God; they had put their faith in Christ.

Praise be to God!

When the apostles heard that they had already received the word of God, what did they do? They sent Peter and John to them.

Peter and John prayed that the Samaritan believers would also receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:15 (NKJV) 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

This is very important. It should help us understand how much we need the Holy Spirit.

The Samaritans were already believers, and both men and women had been water baptized. But the apostles felt the need to send Peter and John to help them receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:12 (NKJV) 12 But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized.

They took 3 separate steps; they believed the word of God, they were water baptized, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Our question to you today is, did you receive the Holy Spirit?

Are you walking in His power and might?

Or are you trying to follow Christ solely with you own intellect and understanding, trying to fight battles, and temptation on your own?

It was very important that Peter and John got to them to help them receive the Holy Spirit.

Let us not neglect this step. Jesus said it is to our advantage that He left, so our Helper could come.

John 16:7 (NKJV) 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

It is a step that we all must take if we want the help we need to get through this journey. Jesus sent Him for us! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-22-24

Colossians 1:9 (NKJV) 9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

As Paul was writing to the Colossian believers, he commended them for their faith, and the fruit that it was producing in their midst.

Paul ran down a list of things that he had heard about them as they grew in their walk with God. They were maturing in Christ!

This is where verse 9, above, comes in, as Paul stated that this was the reason he prayed fervently for them; that they may be filled with knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

So, if Paul thought it important to pray for these things regarding the Colossians, how much more we should realize that these are the things we also should be concerned with in our own walks with God.

Being filled with the knowledge of the will of God will strengthen our faith, push back fear and doubt, and give us the peace He desires for us to have as we walk through various trials and difficulties in our lives.

And as we gain spiritual understanding, we question God’s ways less frequently.

We are no longer blown about by the wind, tossed like ships on a stormy sea. But our faith acts as an anchor that holds us fast even in the tempests that threaten to capsize us and steal us away from our faith.

May we continually learn and grow in the knowledge of Him in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-24

James 1:5 (NKJV) 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

We all need God’s wisdom.

We need His wisdom in making decisions.

We need His wisdom in raising our children.

We need His wisdom in our marriage.

We need His wisdom in our daily routines.

We need His wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent.

His wisdom should be what guides us in all we do.

How do we get His wisdom?

We simply ask Him.

That’s right. If you are struggling for an answer today, if you are wondering what you need to do right now, you ask Him. He will give you the answer you need.

You may know right away, or you may have to walk it out. But as you take the steps one at a time, His wisdom will be there.

Ask Him for wisdom. You don’t have to do this alone.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-20-24

John 8:43-44 (LSB) 43 Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

As Jesus addressed the religious leaders, He spoke truth that infuriated them.

The men in front of Him held themselves up as leaders; men who should be honored and looked up to by everyone.

But their self-righteous opinions of themselves, and their visions of grandeur were shattered by the words of Jesus.

He told them bluntly who they really were; children of the devil, the father of lies, and a murderer.

Jesus saw past their religious garb and their pious words. He knew their hearts, and He knew their intentions.

It was because of their nature that they could not hear what Jesus was saying.

You see, the family we were born into does not matter. Our heritage does not make us righteous. It does not buy redemption or favor with God.

So, these men who thought themselves to be heirs to the kingdom because of their self-proclaimed lineage to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were sadly mistaken.

God desires that we be meek, humble, and willing to receive instruction.

There is a great lesson for us to learn from this, making sure that we do not base our relationship with our Father and Redeemer on our heritage.

Nor should we base it on something from our formative years that we were too young to actively participate in, such as being baptized or “Christened” as a baby or toddler.

Our faith is built on actions and decisions that we make ourselves, choices that we make to follow the One who gave His life for us.

Anything less is simply religion based on rituals, traditions, or choices made for us by others when we were too young to know the difference.

Let us make a conscious, deliberate choice to place our faith in Christ, embracing His death and the cleansing blood that He shed for us.

And let us build and grow that faith in a way that we will know who we are in Christ without relying on something that was done for us in the distant past that we didn’t actively participate in.

Amen
