Bible Verse of The Day – 7-20-23

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible does not just contain the word of God. It is the word of God!

From cover to cover, it is His very breath speaking to our spirit.

The Greek word, theopneustos, is translated, “Inspiration of God”, meaning “God-breathed”. Hallelujah!

Men did not write the Bible from their own human intellect. It was directly breathed from God.

2 Peter 1:20 (NKJV) 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation…

They wrote as the Holy Spirit led them. It was not of their own understanding or interpretation.

Every word of the Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit and written through the hands of obedient men.

2 Peter 1:21 (NKJV) 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

When we open up the Bible and receive His word through reading and meditating on the scriptures, we receive God-breathed, Spirit-filled answers, correction and revelation into our personal situations or any problems we may be dealing with.

It provides us with the knowledge we need to walk in righteousness. It equips us to live in such times as what we are living in right now.

As a believer, we need all of His guidance through His words. It’s so important we take time to read and study.

It is crucial for our daily walk. His word completes us, and it makes us whole! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-19-23

Psalm 39:4-5 (NKJV) 4 “Lord, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah

Psalm 39 is a great piece of Biblical literature, and we urge everyone to seriously consider reading it through from start to finish several times.

The insights offered by David are a great source of meditation and reflection for all of us.

In the verses above, David reflects on the brevity and frailty of human life.

We are here for much less time than most of us realize, so it’s imperative for us to use those days and years wisely, not squandering them on meaningless pursuits.

David was a mighty warrior, and man with a heart after God.

He was far from perfect, however. He made some poor choices at times, but always repented.

He faced many trials during his life, some of which were life-or-death situations that had him literally running for his life.

He hid in caves. He lived in the wilderness. He spent many years evading capture by his enemies.

And despite being Israel’s king, he realized that his life was no more than a vapor, disappearing quickly.

This taught David to appreciate the years he did have, and to use them to honor God to the best of his ability.

These are good things for us to ponder and reflect on as well.

And as these verses ended, what did David write?

Selah.

This little word was used when the writer wanted to encourage the reader to do more than just skim right on to the next line, but to take to heart what was written, and to meditate on it, gleaning truth and wisdom from it.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-18-23

1 Timothy 6:17 (NKJV) 17 Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.

Paul is writing this to Timothy. He is telling him to command (give an authoritative order) to those who are wealthy, to not become haughty.

Another way of saying this is, do not be arrogant, superior-acting, disdainful, showing contempt or lack of respect to others just because of your wealth.

God gives all of us things to enjoy.

But when we start to get confident in those things, or we begin to see ourselves as untouchable, it  can open the door to haughtiness.

Instead of our trust being in God, It can shift to our comfortable lifestyle.

Instead of Who we have, we look at what we have. Instead of trusting with our hearts, we now trust with our head and what we can see and touch.

Having wealth is not a bad thing in and of itself. It’s how we handle it that defines us.

Will we honor God with it?  Or will we lay up for ourselves treasures here on earth?

Matthew 6:19-21 (NKJV) 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Let us keep our hearts soft and pliable no matter what we have been blessed with.

God is watching our attitudes. He is seeing what we are doing with the riches that He places in our hands.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-17-23

Psalm 37:7-8 (NKJV) 7 Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. 8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath; Do not fret—it only causes harm.

As children of God, watching wicked people prosper and go unpunished is probably one of the hardest things we witness.

Having a desire to do right, and also wanting to see others do the right thing can set us up for a lot of disappointments.

It can also cause us to become angry and frustrated as we watch evil schemes play out before our eyes, seemingly with no repercussions for those who carry them out.

Wanting to see justice in these situations is natural. But we may not always see it.

The way God handles things is not always how we would like it to be.

This is not anything new. It a centuries-old concern that has gotten some people in trouble for disagreeing with God’s ways.

Job is one person who comes to mind, as he demanded an audience with God, so he could question Him about the injustices he had seen in his lifetime.

In the end, God corrected Job. He put him in his place, asking him, “where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”.

He then went on to ask Job about several other things that only caused Job to become humbler. And in the end, he repented before God, showing great remorse for the words he had spoken.

So it is with us. We need to be careful not to spend our days questioning everything we see that God is allowing.

We see things through natural eyes, with finite minds. God is infinite.

Isaiah 55:9 (NKJV) 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Let us not be like Job, constantly questioning the ways of God, digging ourselves a hole that may be hard to climb out of.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-15-23

Ephesians 5:31 (NKJV) 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.”

The concept of a man and his wife becoming one flesh is foundational in marriage.

It also seems to be greatly misunderstood, even within the church.

One flesh clearly implies that the couple becomes one in unity.

This is more than just a sexual union.

They function in unison in the marriage itself.

A strong, successful marriage requires that the husband and wife “learn each other”.

This means that they must invest the time and effort into learning each other’s habits, learning each other’s likes, dislikes, preferences, etc.

This does not imply that one person or the other will always get their way.

It simply means that the two work together to find solutions to problems they encounter, whether it be problems in the relationship itself or the problems we all encounter in day-to-day life.

This takes work and it requires sincere effort. It is almost never easy. But when the two are willing to work as “one flesh” it will become much easier.

Decisions about the children should be handled by both people. Financial decisions should be discussed by both people. Decisions about anything that involves them as a household should be discussed by both people.

As the two learn to work as one in unity, everything will become much easier, including those tougher decisions.

Marriage is one of the tougher things that some people deal with in their lives.

It can be incredibly fantastic and satisfying for some.

For others, it is a continual labor that requires great patience, persistence and a genuine love and commitment to their spouse and the relationship itself.

Most of all, it requires that we learn to love as God loves, forgiving each other when we need to forgive and learning how to ask for forgiveness when we have done something wrong.

And if we can “learn each other”, we will be well advanced when it comes to building a marriage that is long and enduring, able to weather the storms that it comes up against.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-14-23

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Let’s talk today about being what the word of God calls, “a new creation” in Christ.

If we have put our faith in Christ and embraced Him as our Savior, then He has made us new through the washing of His blood. Our sins have been forgiven.

The old self has been laid to rest. He has breathed new life into us!

This is what Jesus referred to as being “born again” as He conversed with Nicodemus during the evening hours.

John 3:3 (NKJV) 3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

So, as blood-washed sinners, we are given a fresh start; new life as new creations.

But here is an important question for each of us to answer.

Are we living as though we are new creations?

Have we allowed God to “clean us up” and help us shake those old habits, those things that we saw in ourselves that we needed forgiveness for to begin with?

We all know what these are in each of our lives; the words we use, the way we treat others, the behaviors we habitually fall into, the things we choose to indulge in, etc.

Are we behaving like a new creation, or are we still clinging to the old self?

Some may view this kind of questioning as being legalistic, relying on behavior to “make it into” the kingdom of God.

But this is about much more than just “being a good person”.

It is about how we view our salvation, or whether we value it for what it really is, and whether we really understand what it means to be a new creation in Christ.

We do need to understand that some of our old habits may take time to fall off. They might cling to us for a while as God teaches us and convicts us.

But if we are years into our walk with God as a follower of Christ, and we have yet to allow God to change anything about us, still behaving as we did before Christ, we need to sincerely check ourselves.

We need to allow God to touch our heart and let Him put His finger on those things in us that are holding us back; those things that we know are not pleasing to Him.

This is a hard thing for us to hear. It might anger us. It might cause us to lash out at the one speaking it to us.

But maybe, just maybe we need to hear it, and that’s why it angers us so badly.

Let us all listen for God’s voice in this matter. And let us also heed what He shows us, that we might finally shake off those things that have held us captive for so long. That we might allow Him to lay to rest the old and usher in the new creation that Jesus died to make possible.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-23

Romans 1:16 (NKJV) 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

What is the gospel?

It is the power of God!

The gospel will break us of ourselves and transform us into children of God.

It will teach us, and it will make us mighty warriors for Him, leading us by His Spirit of excellence!

The gospel speaks truth and gives us strength like never before.

We must learn it by hearing and then walk it out in our daily lives, in our home, on our jobs, and wherever we go.

Carry it in our hearts and on our tongue, and let God move through us as our spirit communes with Him.

Let the gospel be the foundation of all that we say and do!

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-12-23

Psalm 32:1 (NKJV) 1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.

Those who view their sins as being the worst or of the greatest quantity often have the most passionate appreciation for God’s grace and mercy.

The reality, though, is that any sin forgiven is great, and to be greatly appreciated.

God’s word reminds us that not even one of us is perfect. We have all fallen short of what glorifies Him.

Romans 3:23 (NKJV) 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…

It is in this that we must understand His grace and mercy, and show the gratitude that He is due.

It doesn’t matter if He rescued us from addictions, a life of crime, a life of sexual promiscuity or what we might think was a boring life with nothing eventful happening; we all need forgiveness and redemption.

We all need the washing of the blood of the Savior, and to be made whole; new creations in Christ.

And as we walk out this new life in Christ, let us not forget from where we have been lifted, and where we are going.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

This incredible salvation is the greatest gift that any one of us could ever receive, so let us be sure to always see it and honor it as such, whether we view our former transgressions as great or small.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-23

Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV) 3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

To keep something means to preserve it or maintain it in a specific state of being.

So, keeping us in perfect peace means that God will preserve or maintain us in a state of His peace in every situation that we face.

Who does He do this for?

Everyone whose mind is stayed (focused) on Him and who trusts in Him.

Have we been trusting Him lately? Or did we give up on the whole trusting thing when we got blindsided by something devastating?

Maybe our situation has changed drastically. Maybe we lost our job or took a major decrease in our income.

Maybe our health has declined, or our children are heading on the wrong path.

Maybe we just got tired of waiting on God and walking by faith, so we decided to take matters into our own hands, and now nothing is going as planned.

If we are willing to give God a chance to show up in our defense, and let Him do His thing, that peace will come back.

Our minds will shift from worrying, to focusing more on Him.

We will pay attention and be intently listening and watching for His guidance once again.

God wants to keep each one of us flowing in this beautiful peace. All we have to do is keep our minds stayed on Him and trust Him. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-10-23

Psalm 24:8 (NKJV) 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.

In these days of rampant evil and a constant onslaught of the enemy’s attacks, it’s important that we constantly remember and meditate on the power and the sovereignty of our God.

The attacks that we endure will try to wear us down and break our resolve. Over time, this can cause us to want to give up and surrender.

But as we are reminded of who God is, and of His strength, sovereignty and faithfulness, our spirits will be lifted and revived.

He will pick us up and nudge us forward as we look to Him, focusing on His leading instead of wallowing in the darkness of what we’re fighting against.

And who is He?

He is the King of glory. He is the Lord strong and mighty. He is the Lord mighty in battle.

What better ally could we have than the Creator and Maker of all we see; the One who breathed life into our lungs and gave our heart the beat that keeps us alive.

He is above all. There is none like Him.

He is Adonai, Jehovah, YHWH; I AM WHO I AM.
