Bible Verse of The Day – 5-20-23

Psalm 28:7 (NKJV) 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.

Trust in the Lord and be helped!

Why do we worry? Because when we are in a state of fear, we forget the sequence of steps we are to take.

What are those steps we need to remember?

Trust, obey and be of good courage!

We all get caught up in our situations and we simply forget the Lord is our strength.

Our strength is not found in our flesh and it’s limited understanding, although our flesh will argue, for it truly desires to be the hero.

In the end it will not get us far.

If we want His help, and we want to come out victoriously, we need to trust God, not our own intellect.

Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding…

Anything in my life that has been awesome has been accomplished when I gave it to God. That means I reach a point where I say, “Lord I can’t do this, please HELP me”. And then I follow His direction.

Sometimes it has been very hard to follow the steps that He gave me, and I have even questioned what He has asked me to do at times.

But, if I just do it and don’t try to add to what He is saying or take away from what He is showing me to do, it is amazing in the end.

I later realize why He did what He did and the way He did it.

I can honestly rejoice today and shout out, “He is a good Helper!”.

Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV) 6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-19-23

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

This is a verse that we often hear quoted. And we may even quote it ourselves from time to time.

But do we ever earnestly ponder on what it really means?

Do we understand the seriousness of this verse?

Let’s break it down so we get a better understanding of it.

In the very first line, we are told that without faith it is impossible to please God.

That’s a big deal!

Impossible: incapable of happening or occurring.

That might seem scary for some, since we might wrestle or struggle with doubt or unbelief from time to time.

But occasional or momentary unbelief will not condemn us if we work through it. We need to sort it out within ourselves and sincerely seek God, asking Him to help us in our unbelief.

Look at this example from the gospel of Mark.

Mark 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

The father of a demon-possessed child had come to Jesus to seek help for his son. And as Jesus told him that he only needed to believe, the father confessed both, his belief and the fact that he struggled with unbelief.

Jesus saw his struggle and recognized his faith for what it was, and then healed his child of the demon who had tormented him from childhood.

This man had faith that Jesus could help. He sought Him out and requested His help.

That seeking showed his faith, despite his struggles to believe without wavering.

Even if we wrestle from time to time with believing, we are not cast away by God.

It is, however, impossible for one to please Him if they claim to believe, but they belligerently build a life based on a lack of faith and persistent unbelief.

For that person, it is impossible for them to please God. And that man should never think they will receive anything from God.

James 1:7-8 (NKJV) 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-23

Jeremiah 1:19 (NKJV) 19 They will fight against you, But they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you,” says the Lord, “to deliver you.”

God’s plans for His people are good. His plans give us hope! He is with us and will deliver us.

There is nothing so big, so bad or so deeply rooted that He can’t fix.

So, what are we going to do?

We are going to stop talking about it and trust Him with it all! Amen.

We know that faith is the answer.

I remember one day, years ago, I was sitting in the hospital.

The doctor came out to let us know that my dad needed heart surgery. It was unexpected and very scary.

His heart was in bad condition.

He was 80, and all the years I had known him I had never seen him in this kind of frail position.

He was Dad; strong, smart and always there for us kids.

But now it had been turned around. We had to be strong, wise and there for him.

Words were hard for me to find. All I kept thinking was, “I need You God. please help!”.

Sometimes when we are dealing with deep or hard things, words are scarce. We just have to trust Him.

God says He is with you, and it’s in those types of moments you know it for sure! It becomes real.

Are you in that position today?

Do you need to believe that He will deliver you?

We live in a real world, with real problems. We need to be real with each other and with God.

He knows you have a lack of words right now. But it’s not always words He wants to hear. It’s our faith in Him that He wants to see.

Drop everything you are doing and ask Him to help your unbelief.

Mark 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-17-23

Luke 12:4-5 (NKJV) 4 “And I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear Him who, after He has killed, has power to cast into hell; yes, I say to you, fear Him!

The fear of God is something that not many people want to teach or want to talk about.

It’s uncomfortable and can sometimes cause heated discussions.

Nobody likes to think of God as one to be feared. They prefer instead to think of His love, mercy and compassion.

But speaking only of God’s kinder attributes creates a lopsided image of Him; an image that’s not wholly accurate.

And those kinds of things can lead to perverted faith that honors something and someone who God is not; a pacifist who never disciplines and never chastens those He loves.

The word of God teaches us repeatedly that we need to fear Him. It is right there in black and white.

Even Jesus, the One that most people think of when they think of God’s incredible love, taught this Biblical principal of fearing God.

This truth is foundational to knowing God in His fullness.

Let us not water down who God is just to make people comfortable or try to make God more acceptable to them. He is who He is.

It is God in His fullness who sets us free. And it is knowing everything we can know about Him that creates a more complete relationship with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-16-23

Psalm 5:11 (NKJV) 11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them; Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You.

Rejoice, shout for joy, and be joyful. For the Lord God will defend us!

We know that God is here. We know that He is watching everything. He is willing and ready to help us no matter what we are going through in this life.

But when things are right in our faces, or we have taken a hard hit, what do we do? How do we react?

Do we get nervous and immediately tense up? Do we get scared and start speaking words and having thoughts of the worst?

Anxiety will immediately put us in a state of depression if we’re not careful.

Proverbs 12:25 (NKJV) 25 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.

Don’t lose sight of Who we belong to and Who takes care of us.

We are not left alone. We are more than conquerors, no matter where we are in our life.

We have Who it takes to help us through the fiercest of battles.

He is waiting for us to trust Him; to believe in Him to get us through it all and for us to praise Him even in the storms!

Romans 8:37 (NKJV) 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

We don’t’ conquer without Him, but through Him, let’s remember this and keep it dear to our hearts.

Who today is battling?

I think we can all say together, “Yes, we are on the battlefield!”

Together, let us claim our victory as God defends us! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-15-23

Ecclesiastes 5:7 (NKJV) 7 For in the multitude of dreams and many words there is also vanity. But fear God.

I am one who tends to ponder on the things of life frequently.

I am in almost a constant state of meditating on the things of God and comparing them to what I see in the world.

This helps me to put things into perspective. And it helps me to see and hear God more clearly.

As I get older and I experience more of the things of God, and He gives me understanding about the depths of the depravity of the world, the easier it is for me to understand what Solomon was referring to when he spoke of so much vanity in life.

There are so many things that we think are important. We spend countless hours of our life fretting or worrying about them.

These things are vastly different for some of us, but most of them are not unique at all and are shared by millions upon millions of us.

It’s normal for us to be concerned with things that impact our lives. We are, after all, flesh and bone; subject to the emotions that come with changes and the ups-and-downs of this earthly life we live.

It is not OK, though, to allow our emotions to chip away at our faith and cause us to succumb to doubts and fears, eroding our trust in God who created and breathed life into us.

Sometimes we need to step back and look at things “from a 40,000-foot view”, to give us a better perspective and help us look from the outside, where it’s not as easy to get emotionally influenced.

This allows us to hear God better and let Him show us His way; His answers to our problems.

Our vanity and our need to have full control will begin to fall by the wayside when we hand the reins over to God and we begin following His lead instead of fighting Him every step of the way, wrestling to maintain our death grip on every aspect of our lives.

Trust Him today with your situation. Hand your cares and concerns over to Him.

It’s not always easy to do, but once we start, and we begin to see the results of trusting Him, we will never want to go back to trying to control everything in our lives ever again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-13-23

Romans 1:26-27 (NKJV) 26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

We are literally watching these verses play out right before our eyes.

Evil is rampant in so many places across the globe now. You may see different aspects of it in different geographical regions. One region may show different signs of it than others; different types of sin in grotesque amounts.

But regardless of which sin is dominating an area, it is at levels that none of us have ever seen.

Sexual sins are at the top of the list in many areas. Sexual perversions of many types are out in the open for all to see. There is no longer any shame.

While we are watching these sexual perversions multiply exponentially, we need to keep in mind that we were forewarned that this would happen.

And as it plays out, it is a good reminder of the faithfulness of God, as He told us of these things to come.

Despite the frustration and feelings of disgust that we experience as we watch it, it’s good for us to look at it through the lens of Biblical prophecy, knowing that what God has foretold is playing out.

His sovereignty and His faithfulness in everything are undeniable, forever and ever.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-12-23

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Jesus spoke in ways that most of the religious leaders of His time could not comprehend. They couldn’t understand the symbolic underpinnings of His teaching because their eyes were closed, and their ears were deaf.

Instead of listening, and trying to hear what he meant, they grew angry and ridiculed Him, eventually scheming to have Him killed.

The verse above is one of those that had deep symbolic meaning that many of the ordinary, everyday people understood deep in their spirits. And because they “got it”, they flocked to Him to be set free from the entanglements that they wrestled with in their personal lives.

Jesus wasn’t referring to people who were physically weary. He was calling out to those who were afflicted, not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally as well.

Jesus came to show us what true freedom is. He demonstrated right before their eyes the reality and the truth of freedom from things that oppress us, things that condemn us and things that can destroy us.

Many of you reading this know exactly what I’m referring to because we can all wrestle with things from time to time that grip us and make us feel like there is no hope for freedom in our lives.

Addiction, depression, sickness, unforgiveness, bitterness, jealousy, coveting, lust, and so many other things are struggles that can literally wreak havoc with our lives.

But there is no need for us to wrestle with these things for years on end, watching them destroy us a little at a time. Jesus came to set the captives free.

Luke 4:18 (NKJV) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Now, I know that some people may get offended when they are told that “there is no need for us to wrestle with these things for years on end”. Others may bristle up and state bluntly that, “it’s not easy to overcome these kinds of things”.

To that I say, “surrender it to God. Let Him have it. Stop trying to do it by your own strength”.

It is in doing this that we finally find true freedom; freedom in Christ.

God does not arbitrarily swoop down and just take something from us. We must reach a point where we are willing to lay it at His feet and surrender to Him. We surrender everything.

Why? Because we come to the realization that we can’t win this battle on our own.

It’s in the surrendering where we find victory; the victory that we could not find for so long, as we struggled from one day to the next to find a way out of the box that we had been trapped in.

It was in the surrendering where the woman with the issue of blood found her healing after spending all she had on doctors for 12 years.

It was in the surrendering where Bartimaeus found his eyesight.

It was in the surrendering where Mary Magdalene found freedom from the demons that had held her captive and tormented her for so long.

And it is in the surrendering where you can find your freedom as well.

Stop trying to do it by your own strength. Stop trying to figure it out in your mind. Stop running from God.

Instead, run to Him! Lay whatever it is you’re wrestling with at His feet. Give it to Him and leave it there. It is no longer yours to carry.

And cry out, “Lord, have mercy on me”. Amen.

Luke 18:38 (NKJV) 38 And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-23

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

I love that we have a Helper; our third person of Trinity, the Holy Spirit!

The Bible teaches us that the Godhead consists of three divine persons; Father, Son, Holy Spirit, each fully God and showing fully the divine nature.

The Holy Spirit inspired the scriptures, empowers God’s people, and convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgement.

John 16:8 (NKJV) 8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

He will be with us when we face trials. He will help us through the tough tests we face from time to time. He will be there for us when we grieve over the things and people we may lose here on earth.

He has been sent specifically to help us!

It’s truly up to us to make sure we have given Him the place to freely move in and through us.

How do we do this?

First, we must be born again. We must be believers.

The Holy Spirit needs a place to live. By repenting of our sins and believing in Jesus Christ as God’s only Son, it gives Him a dwelling place inside of us.

Second, ask Him to come, and believe that He will fill us. Be willing to surrender our body to Him as a living sacrifice.

Luke 11:13 (NKJV) 13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Third, be willing to obey the things the Holy Spirit leads us into. Not just once in a while or just in the things that are easy and convenient to do. But in always being ready to obey the Holy Spirit when He prompts us, even if we don’t feel like we can do what He is asking of us. Take the step toward it and let Him guide us through.

Fourth, open our mouths and speak the words the Holy Spirit gives to us. Pray in other tongues.

Acts 2:4 (NKJV) 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

The utterance that the Holy Spirit gives to us in tongues is the direct language to our Heavenly Father. Don’t be afraid or judge it in any way. Trust Him!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-10-23

1 Chronicles 18:6 (NLT) 6 Then he placed several army garrisons in Damascus, the Aramean capital, and the Arameans became David’s subjects and paid him tribute money. So the Lord made David victorious wherever he went.

“So the Lord made David victorious wherever he went”.

There is a lot we can learn from this short statement.

But in order to learn from it, we need to ask this one question; why was David victorious wherever he went?”.

The answer to that question is very simple and straight forward.

David loved God with all his heart and endeavored to honor God in all that he did.

David was not perfect. But he considered God in every decision he made. He despised false gods. He also abhorred people who stood against his God.

David was not afraid to stand against those who stood against his God. And he gave honor and credit to God for his victories.

His wife, Michal, even looked at him with contempt and she despised him in her heart because he danced and leapt with joy before the Lord in public.

2 Samuel 6:16 (NKJV) 16 Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

And when Michal confronted him about making a spectacle of himself in public, here’s what David told her.

2 Samuel 6:21-22 (NKJV) 21 …“It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. 22 And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight….

Let us all honor God the way David did. Let us all put Him first in our hearts and in the choices we make every day, that He might give us victory wherever we go.

Amen
