Bible Verse of The Day – 4-8-23

Isaiah 63:10 (NKJV) 10 But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And He fought against them.

The Holy Spirit can definitely be grieved when we rebel.

One of the ways we do this is by holding onto bitterness or having resentment.

Bitterness sets in our hearts from being angry and disappointed. Many times this is due to being treated unfairly.

We can’t let bitterness stick around. Let God heal us and help us to forgive and move on quickly.

Another way we grieve the Holy Spirit as believers is by remaining in a state of anger. This can cause us to take that anger out on others by mistreating them; degrading, ignoring, shouting at them, etc.

If we have lasting anger and we can’t seem to shake it off, we’ve got to ask God for help in showing us why it is there.

Whatever the root of our anger is from, God can help us pluck it up and dispose of it as we ask for His help.

If we as God’s children are acting out in a loud, obnoxious, troublemaking way, we will also find ourselves grieving the Holy Spirit.

Our words are another way of grieving Him.

If we find ourselves continually speaking words that we know are not good, and we continue to ignore it, the Holy Sprit will not stick around.

Ephesians 4:30-31 (NKJV) 30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.

We are accountable for our actions. It’s up to us to walk in such a way that the Holy Spirit feels welcomed in our temple and that He has precedence over our flesh.

God will teach us how to walk as a believer with integrity if we truly want to change.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-7-23

Colossians 3:3 (NKJV) 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

I find the phrase, “hidden with Christ in God”, extremely intriguing and comforting at the same time.

What is it about this phrase that carries so much weight. And what does it mean to us, as believers?

Let’s take a look and see what this phrase really means.

In order to fully understand it, we need to be sure to look at it in its proper context. This requires us to go back to chapter 2 and read what Paul was saying to the Colossian believers.

To summarize, he was reminding them that they were not required, nor was it wise, to follow traditions of men, rather than walking in the freedoms that Christ had died to pay for.

And as chapter 3 begins, he is telling them that if they have been raised with Christ (through new birth), they should “seek those things that are above” and to “set their mind on things above, not on things on the earth”.

It is only after reminding them of these things that Paul tells them that their “life is hidden with Christ in God”.

This phrase refers to the fact that, as believers, we have died with Christ.

Our lives are now hidden in Him as we have taken on this new identity as a child of God and lay down the things and the ways of this world.

He then encourages the Colossian believers, telling them that “when Christ appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory”.

Lastly, he tells them to “put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness”, indicating that these members(sins) must be laid down.

In exchange, we must “put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering, bearing with one another, and forgiving one another”.

It is clear that our old selves are to disappear, being hidden with Christ in God, giving way to the new man (or woman) and giving preference to Christ who bought us by His blood.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-23

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Timothy was prone to timidity at times and Paul was simply reminding him that through the Holy Spirit’s fullness, He provides enabling power to exercise one’s ministry.

This same Holy Spirit will guide us in our steps and give us what we need to be strong, compassionate and bold at times.

I want to say to you today, we can do these things that God has set before us!

Yes, it can cause us to be fearful at times, but we need to push through the fear and take the necessary steps.

He will strengthen us and even help us at times to overcome our unbelief.

Mark 9:24 (NKJV) 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!”

He is a conquering Spirit; a Spirit of excellence. We can do all things through His strength, more than we could ever possibly do alone.

Be encouraged today and know that you may be facing something that is causing you to be fearful, but you, as a child of God, have help.

Together with the Holy Spirit, set your face like a flint and go!

Isaiah 50:7 (NKJV) 7 “For the Lord God will help Me; Therefore I will not be disgraced; Therefore I have set My face like a flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-5-23

1 Samuel 24:5 (NLT) 5 But then David’s conscience began bothering him because he had cut Saul’s robe.

David had spent considerable time on the run, hiding from Saul to protect his own life.

At one point, as David and his men hid in a cave, Saul also happened to enter this same cave, not knowing that David was there.

David took advantage of this situation and secretly cut a small piece off Saul’s robe. He did this to show Saul that he meant no harm to him. After all, he could very easily have killed Saul instead of cutting his robe.

The verse above says that David’s conscience began bothering him because of what he had done. Saul was, after all, still Israel’s king. And David was Saul’s subordinate.

You see, it didn’t take a prophet of God or a powerful sign from God to show David that what he had done was wrong. His conscience showed him.

This shows us that God will often use our conscience to show us when we have done something wrong.

Our conscience is a like an embedded messenger that God has given to every one of us. Even those who know nothing of God have a conscience. And God uses it to guide mankind toward Himself and His ways.

Even before the Holy Spirit was sent to earth, we inherently knew right from wrong by way of our conscience.

This leaves man with no excuses when they do something wrong.

And even more importantly, the fact that we have a conscience just reaffirms God’s existence, since it leads us to follow His most basic commandments.

This may not be deeply spiritual in nature, but it’s a good reminder of God’s sovereignty.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-4-23

Deuteronomy 32:4 (NKJV) 4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.

People may say, “how can we trust God?”. I ask, “how can we not?”.

There are two Hebrew words which are translated as ‘rock’ in English; Tsur and Sela. Both of the words denote more than just a rock. These both indicate a large immoveable cliff or boulder, sharp and strong, mighty.

When most people think of a rock, they think of it being strong, solid and unchanging.

2 Samuel 22:2 (NKJV) 2 And he said: “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer…

David called God his rock, fortress and deliverer because God enabled him to subdue his enemies and gave him victories in battles.

In this life we live, if we say we trust someone it’s because they have proven to us somehow that we can trust them. They usually have done something for us, or we have known them in such a way that we trust them in what they say or do.

If we don’t trust God, is it maybe because we don’t know Him?

How do we get to a point where we trust God?

We learn about Him, like anyone else we trust.

We watch, we listen, we observe. We will reach a place in our heart where we will say, “yes Lord, I trust You”.

It’s a decision that takes place in our heart.

He is perfect. He is just. He is a God of truth. He is righteous and upright.

Let Him show Himself to us in our personal walk with Him.

1 Samuel 2:2 (NKJV) 2 “No one is holy like the Lord, For there is none besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-3-23

2 Timothy 4:7 (NKJV) 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

As Paul exhorted Timothy to be strong in his faith, he warned Timothy of things to come.

He told of false teachers, people who would flock to those false teachers, etc. And he warned Timothy to be watchful, endure afflictions, and be prepared to preach the word under any circumstance.

Then, in verse 7, above, he penned these well-known words. Some might view those words as a summary of sorts, where Paul simply reassured Timothy that he himself had been diligent in his work for the kingdom of God.

While it is indeed that, it is also much more.

If we look at that verse closely, we will see that Paul is giving us a list of things that are necessary in our walk with God.

He fought the good fight.

Paul faced many adversaries and many harsh situations after he became a follower of Christ. His life was anything but easy. And yet, he persevered, never abandoning his call.

He finished the race.

No matter what Paul faced, he stayed the course. He never surrendered. He never turned his back on God.

He kept the faith.

Paul’s faith never faltered. In fact, one might say that as he forged ahead through all the difficulties he faced in his lifetime, his faith likely grew stronger as he saw God move in so many ways.

That faith ultimately cost him his life. But Paul never gave up the fight. He was faithful to the very end.

Likewise, we should use Paul’s life as an example.

How do we do that?

We fight the good fight. We finish the race. We keep the faith.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-1-23

Revelation 2:4 (NKJV) 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.

As I was having my devotional time this morning, I felt God speaking to me regarding this verse; that the church on a large scale has left Him, their first love.

It has simply allowed things to come in and take our time and loyalty away from Him. These things have gripped us enough to put us in a place of rebellion.

Isn’t it just like the enemy to tempt us with all kinds of little things we may love, just to distract us and take away the time we’ve devoted to God?

As Jesus speaks these words to John regarding the church, He is definitely bringing correction, stating that they have completely left Him.

This is not a little thing. It affects us all. As we can see, it happened to the church then and it is happening to the church now.

He is calling His children into repentance. He is chastening us and drawing us close. Thank God for that!

Hebrews 12:6 (NKJV) 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens And scourges every son whom He receives.”

Stay focused. Embrace His correction in our personal lives. Know that He will chasten those He loves.

Revelation 2:7 (NKJV) 7 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.”.

Amen.
