Bible Verse of The Day – 1-31-23

Matthew 5:44 (NKJV) 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you

Some of us may be asking ourselves, “how is this possible? How can we love those who hate us and persecute us?”.

How?

By not responding out of our emotions, but from the same forgiveness that God offers to each and every one of us.

How do we love our enemies? By forgiving them.

How do we bless those who curse us? By forgiving them.

How do we do good to those who hate us? By forgiving them.

And most importantly, how do we pray properly for those that spitefully use us and persecute us? By forgiving them.

We have to make a sincere choice to forgive them. And then we allow the Holy Spirit to walk us through it.

We allow God to bring healing to our heart and teach us how to respond as a child of the Most High God. It’s all done through His strength.

It’s not easy. But if we purpose in our hearts to follow Christ, these are the things we will experience.

Colossians 3:13 (NKJV) 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

The outcome of such forgiveness will be worth it all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-30-23

Deuteronomy 5:32-33 (NKJV) 32 “Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

If you were to read through Deuteronomy, you would see that there are a lot of commandments, rules and laws laid down for the people to live by.

Initially, you might get overwhelmed by all these laws, rules and commandments. And you may wonder how anyone could possibly follow them all.

You may also wonder why God would create all these laws, rules and commandments.

I mean, doesn’t it seem kind of legalistic and stiff?

But as you spend more time in the word, and you allow the Holy Spirit to show you the hows and whys of what God did, you will begin to see a couple of things very clearly.

First, you will see that God had to do this in order to rein in the people of Israel, for they were a stiff-necked, stubborn people.

Exodus 32:9 (NKJV) 9 And the Lord said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and indeed it is a stiff-necked people!

But more importantly, God was trying to show the people how He wanted them to live, not by rituals and repetitions, but in their hearts.

God desired the people of Israel to love Him enough to want to please Him. He wanted their hearts to long for Him and love Him for who He was, not just for what He had done for them.

But because He knew them, He had to put these rules, laws and commandments in place to give them “guideposts” to stay within.

The Israelites were prone to idolatry, repeatedly pushing God aside and going after “other gods”.

But God promised them that if they followed everything He asked of them, He would bless them, and they would prosper.

Deuteronomy 5:33 (NKJV) 33 You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.

Today, we live under grace, not under the law. But God’s desire for us is still the same; that we love Him with our whole heart, not just going through the motions with routines and rituals.

What will we do?

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-28-23

Psalm 118:24 (NKJV) 24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Praise Him in the morning. Praise Him in the afternoon, and praise Him at night!

He is so worthy of all our praise.

Today, as I sit out on my porch, it is a beautiful, sunny, warm day. The birds are so pretty to listen to. My Camelia plant is blossoming, and the stillness of the morning is just breathtaking.

What a  gorgeous day here in NC.

I pray that I don’t take it for granted; none of it.

These are our blessings. These are the things that our Father gave to us to enjoy; to have at any time. No matter what our situation is, we will always have this beauty to turn to.

It’s like a warm blanket wrapped tightly around us saying, “I love You!. Enjoy”.

Take a moment and ponder on the beauty and sounds that the Lord God has placed around us.

Look up! Look all around, and see the wonders of creation. And know that it was created for our eyes and ears to behold.

God bless you and your family on this day that the Lord has made.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-27-23

Matthew 6:19 (NKJV) 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;

When I was young, I liked to buy things. Sometimes I would spend a lot of time just looking for something to buy.

Now that I am not so young, this is no longer the case.

Don’t get me wrong. I still enjoy buying something occasionally, but typically only if it’s something that I need.

I have learned that the more things we own, the more problems we have because those things break or fail us.

And those things don’t bring us happiness in the truest sense of the word.

They may bring us pleasure for a time, but that pleasure fades. The excitement dissipates, usually rather quickly, and then we tend to move on to the next thing we want to buy.

Let us not spend the money that God blesses us with on things that rust, break down, fade or get stolen by thieves.

Let us, instead, spend our time, money and effort storing up treasures in heaven.

We need to let God teach us how He wants us to handle our finances and the things we spend our money on. If we do this, it will change the way we look at our finances. It will change our spending habits.

And it will even change what we like and don’t like regarding what we buy. The things we used to like to spend our money on will fade away into the distant past as God transforms our heart and mind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-26-23

1 Peter 4:10 (NKJV) 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Just the other day we took a walk.

After our walk I was thirsty and in need of a drink. So, we stopped by this small shop and I grabbed an iced tea.

As the young lady at the counter was waiting on me, I asked her, “how was your Christmas?”. Just a simple question.

Sometimes we ask things and are not expecting the answer that we get.

She went on to explain to me about her Christmas, I listened intently, only to hear about this poor young lady’s experience as she shared what she was going through.

What she shared was heavy. And I told her that there are things in life that we go through that we will only make it through with God’s help. And then I told her that I will be praying for her.

She welcomed it and was so happy to hear that someone would pray for her. She smiled big, but I could see the pain in her eyes from the heartache she was carrying.

As I got back into the vehicle, I began to cry very hard. Seeing this young girl go through so much hit me hard.

We just never know when or where God will use us to minister His love to others.

We need to be open to serving Him no matter what we’re doing or where we are.

He wants to help people, and we are His good stewards, full of His love and compassion.

We need to let it flow to those He directs us to.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-25-23

Psalm 20:7 (NKJV) 7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.

In this topsy turvy world that we live in, I have been shown over and over again that my trust needs to lie solely in God.

Humans are fickle, and they can let us down at any moment.

Organizations, which are owned and run by humans, will also let us down.

Even churches will let us down. Why? Because they are run by humans.

And humans will disappoint us.

This doesn’t mean that we can never trust anyone. It simply means that man will eventually let us down in one way or another.

Human nature is unpredictable, constantly changing. We all fail in one way or another on a regular basis. This is just a fact of life.

Sometimes we may find ourselves putting too much trust in people or organizations, and not enough trust in God.

Psalm 146:3 (NKJV) 3 Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help.

Disappointment comes when we place too much trust in man or manmade entities.

We need to understand that only God will never betray our trust.

2 Samuel 22:31 (NKJV) 31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

As for man, trusting people is something that we must do as part of life. It’s something that we can’t avoid.

But we need to do it knowing that man is not infallible; imperfect. This will help prevent us from being hurt so badly when someone disappoints us.

So, to summarize? Trust God. He is our shield.

2 Samuel 22:31 (NKJV) 31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-24-23

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Another way to say this would be to simply fall in love with Him, listen to Him, chase after or seek Him, and obey Him!

We need to realize that He is everything we long for and need.

He holds our destiny.

If our desire is for Him more than anything else, not only will we find Him, but everything else we may desire will follow us as we keep our heart and eyes fixed on Him.

Take time with Him today. Yes, that means to shut off the phone, the TV and anything else that might distract us, and just bask at His feet daily.

Not only will it be the best thing we ever invested our time in, but we will find it to be very rewarding.

He cares for us.

1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-23-23

Romans 6:1-2 (NKJV) 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

Over the last several years, I have noticed something that I would call a disconnect in the body of Christ; a disconnect between some Christians and what the word of God says about the words we choose to speak.

This is not about whether we speak joyful things or negative things. It’s about certain types of words that I hear people who profess to be Christians using on a repeated basis; cuss words.

For some reason, many Christians fail to understand that God doesn’t want us to be using this kind of language. It is something that we should be leaving behind, as part of our past; our old life before Christ.

This scripture states plainly that we should not be using “filthy language.

Colossians 3:8 (NKJV) 8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.

This next scripture states that we should avoid “coarse jesting”; dirty jokes and similar talk.

Ephesians 5:4 (NKJV) 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

The problem seems to stem from a failure to allow God to change us completely.

When we give ourselves to Christ, we need to surrender to Him completely, letting Him change us from the inside, out, leaving no area of our lives untouched.

We need to let the Holy Spirit convict us, even in areas where we resist change.

This kind of language is part of the world, not part of the kingdom of God. And God’s word says we are to leave the world behind, separating ourselves form it.

2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV) 17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”

We need to allow God to renew our minds, transforming the way we think and the way we act, helping us leave our sinful ways behind.

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

This won’t happen overnight. But as we allow God to convict us, He will bring change to us a little at a time.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-21-23

Acts 10:38 (NKJV) 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

If Jesus Christ, God’s own son, needed to be anointed to do good things and bring healing upon the oppressed, how much more do we need the Holy Spirit moving through us just to live out our daily walk in this day and time?

The Greek word for this power is dunamis (doo-nam-is), which means energy, power, might, great force, great ability, and strength.

The dunamis that Jesus walked in resulted in dramatic transformation. This is exactly what every believer can and should walk in.

We are not meant to carry on and be witnesses on our own ability.

Our natural man, our fleshly intellectual ways, cannot handle the tasks God gives us. But the Holy Spirit working in us will amazingly get the job done.

Acts 4:33 (NKJV) 33 And with great power the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.

The Holy Sprit power needs to be upon us. There is a lot to do here on this earth. We need His strength everyday.

Pray for the anointing, that we may reach the ends of this earth with God’s message by the dunamis of the Holy Spirit moving through us. God be with us. Amen.
