Bible Verse of The Day – 12-9-22

John 8:10-11 (NKJV) 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

Today, we want to talk to anyone who might be reading this and battling condemnation or confusion.

Maybe you’re a believer. Maybe you’re not. Or maybe you’re on the fence about everything and just not sure where you stand.

Jesus came to earth to demonstrate God’s love for humanity. He did this in many ways.

While He walked among us, He showed us how to love and to forgive in ways that the Jews found unfathomable. They had never seen this kind of mercy and compassion before.

And we’d like to direct that same love, mercy and compassion toward you today.

Jesus showed His mercy and compassion to people who had sinned in ways that caused the Jews to want to stone them, literally, to death. It was what they had always done.

But Jesus intervened on their behalf demonstrated love and forgiveness. And in doing so, He also urged them to “sin no more”.

One such encounter is in the verses above. Another can be found in John 4:5-29, where Jesus spoke with a Samaritan woman at a well, and He revealed things about her that only a prophet, or God Himself, could have known.

And though He revealed her sin, He did not condemn her outright. He allowed the Holy Spirit to work on her as He spoke, giving the woman the opportunity to deal with her sin, one-on-one with God.

The thief on the cross also demonstrates God’s love and mercy, as Jesus told him, “today you will be with Me in Paradise”.

Jesus never condoned their sin, so we should not mistakenly think this.

But He demonstrated love, mercy and compassion that changed the hearts of the people He encountered.

And we want you to understand that mercy and compassion today, that you would trust Him with your own situation.

So, if you’re wrestling with condemnation, guilt, or the feeling that you have no direction and don’t know where to go, go to Jesus. Pour your heart out to Him. He will never reject you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-8-22

Psalm 119:18 (NKJV) 18 Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law.

It’s important that we ask God to open our heart, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, to the message of the scriptures. We need to understand what it is that He is showing us at times, so we’re not just reading for the sake of reading.

His word is alive!

We gain so much from reading, studying and spending time with Him.

We can get so caught up in our own problems, and the problems of others, that we forget where the answers lie for those problems.

That’s exactly what the devil wants for us; to fail and to give up. He wants us to make the wrong choices and to head down a road of destruction. That is his goal for us.

John 10:10 (NKJV) 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

But if we allow God to open our eyes to His laws and His truth, He will teach us how to avoid the road of destruction, and we will be on a road of victory!

The Holy Spirt will forever guide us through the scriptures and give us understanding in every area of our life.

We must set our whole heart like a flint to seek Him and His wonderful law.

Psalm 119:2 (NKJV) 2 Blessed are those who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart—

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-7-22

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV) 13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Over the last few months, you may have noticed that our devotionals have focused much more on topics related to strengthening our walk with God and ensuring our salvation.

There’s a reason for that.

It’s absolutely necessary due to the seasons through which we are walking and living.

Salvation isn’t something that we can take lightly. It is, instead, something that we need to take more seriously than anything else that we will ever endeavor to do in our lives here on earth.

Our eternal destiny relies on it.

And we are the only ones who can make the decision to follow Christ, and then make the decisions that are required to walk that out daily.

We are all unique. No two people will have the same walk with God. And this is by design.

Despite the differences, though, there will be things in common; a sincere heart, a broken (contrite) spirit, humility, willingness to repent, willingness to seek God’s forgiveness, willingness to make change as God directs, and willingness to forgive others.

This is a lifelong process. It takes effort every day. Some days we will nail it. Other days, maybe not so much.

But God’s mercy is bigger than our failures. And through Christ we can do all things (Philippians 4:13).

So, seek Him daily with your whole heart. Press into Him. Put Him first in everything. And if you fall down, get back up, repent and let God point you in the right direction.

Do whatever is necessary to keep your feet on the narrow path. For He is faithful to lead us if we let Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-6-22

Mark 16:15 (NKJV) 15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.

I believe that Christians have something to say and that we need to say it.

When God gives us the opportune time, when the door opens, we need to open our mouths and say what the word of God has put in our hearts.

His word is always alive and breathing in us. It’s a “Rhema word” when spoken in its moment, hour or season, and will bring much healing, deliverance, wisdom and strength. Praise God!

What happened to this “preaching” the gospel? Where does it stand today?

Are we, the church, afraid?

Are we worried that people are going to look at us funny when they hear the words we have to say?

Do we fear losing friends when we share the truth?

Does this cause us to second guess ourselves?

Are we nervous, so we hold back “the gospel” that can bring truth and set people free?

We are in a world full of people who are living lives of gross profanity, fornication, and adultery. They bought the “lie” and think it’s OK! They don’t know Jesus, God or the Holy Spirit.

We’ve been called to preach truth. We are supposed to give these beautiful gifts to them; the truth that will set them free!

Has this verse been watered down in us?

Have we been taught to be so careful of people’s feelings that we walk on pins and needles, and that even the word and the preaching of it has become old school?

Sisters and brothers in Christ, God’s word says, “Preach it to all creation”, leaving no one out. Let us be diligent to do so.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-5-22

1 Kings 19:3 (NKJV) 3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

Elijah was a great man of God; a powerful prophet who knew God’s strength and faithfulness.

He accomplished many great things as God’s prophet of that era.

Knowing this, it would seem that Elijah was without fear.

But that’s not true.

Elijah was a human, just like you and me. But after a mighty victory against 450 prophets of Baal and 400 prophets of Asherah, he became scared. And his fear drove him to run into the wilderness and hide beneath a tree, fearing for his life.

You see, Elijah very quickly forgot what God had just done through him. He forgot that God was his source of strength. And he forgot about God’s faithfulness.

He let his enemy (Jezebel) get into his head, and he started operating by his emotions, instead of by the spirit.

And fear kicked in, causing him to run.

After he escaped into the wilderness, he begged God to take his life. He had gone from a mighty, conquering warrior of God to a fearful, tearful man, hiding from a woman who had threatened him with harm and death.

There, as he wallowed in fear and self-pity, he collapsed and fell asleep.

But an angel of God came and woke him, urging him to arise and eat, and giving him instructions to leave and go to a mountain where he would meet God.

God did meet him there. And He showed Himself to Elijah in a very powerful way.

He had a chat with Elijah to correct what was going on in his mind. And then He sent Elijah on another mission.

So, what can you and I learn from this? What can we apply from Elijah’s situation to our own lives?

We need to always remember God’s sovereignty. We need to always remember God’s provision. And we need to always remember God’s mercy.

You see, God never abandoned Elijah. It was Elijah’s emotions that got the best of him and caused him to become fearful.

God never punished Elijah for the fear he displayed or for the pity party he engaged in. Instead, God spoke with him, helped him get understanding, and then sent him on another mission.

And while He visited with Elijah, God showed Himself to him as He passed by the mountain.

God showed Elijah mercy and compassion. And in that mercy and compassion, Elijah drew strength from God and went on to complete all that God had for him to do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-3-22

Matthew 11:28-29 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Freeing up our lives for Him, and staying free, is a job in itself.

How many are like me? You care so much that you fill yourself with the problems of others by taking them on like they are our own.

Oh, praise God, I’m talking to some people out there today, and I’m right there with you.

I know how you feel because I myself am going through this very thing.

How do we live this life of helping others, but not overdo it?

We may ask, “why would something so good hurt us or even be a concern?”.

It’s the heaviness of it that wears us down and takes our energy, time and, most importantly, all our focus.

This is my fight. It’s a struggle.

I cried out to Him, and He is teaching me where I am off; where I need to make adjustments, and how to get free from my own self and the guilt I carry at times because I feel like I can’t do enough.

Understanding comes when we go to Him with it, and we let Him counsel us.

He says, “come to Me!”.

The balance is in leaving my cares and concerns with Him. And then my part is to rest my soul by trusting that He’s got it!

We can keep ourselves on a wrong and busy road by forgetting to take these steps.

Lord God, help us to free ourselves up for You, and take up Your yoke, that we may find rest. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-2-22

Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Job had been through quite an ordeal.

He had lost his family, his possessions and his health. And to top it off, his wife and friends were giving him very bad advice.

Job had spent a fair amount of time speaking words about God that were not favorable. He demanded an audience with God so he could question God on some things that were bothering him.

Some of those things included questioning God about the way He handles injustice, and the evil that he had seen play out over his years.

Ultimately, God had come to Job and corrected Job’s incorrect assumptions and ideas. And Job repented.

God also scolded Job’s friends for their foolish words and horrible advice for Job.

Here is a key thing we can learn from what transpired.

God told Job’s friend, Eliphaz, that he and his other friends had aroused God’s wrath against them because they had spoken incorrectly about Him. And then He told them to make a very specific sacrifice and let Job pray for them, “lest I deal with you according to your folly”.

Eliphaz and his friends obeyed God, as did Job, who then prayed for his friends and saved them from God’s wrath.

Because of Job’s repentant heart, and his obedience to God, God restored what Job had lost, and increased it.

And while some may focus on the fact that Job’s possessions were doubled, that’s not truly what’s important.

What is important is that Job repented and obeyed God. And it was this that caused God to restore Job’s losses.

Finally, it’s interesting to note that the words used in the original text actually said that God “turned the captivity of Job”, meaning that God released Job from the captivity of his situation. And then He restored his fortunes.

The key takeaway from all of this?

Stay humble. Repent. Trust in God’s sovereignty.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-1-22

Acts 2:39 (NKJV) 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

The promise of the Holy Spirit is a gift for every believer in every generation, in every era, no matter where they are.

All who are afar off includes all believers; as many as give their life to Jesus Christ. All been given the opportunity to receive this promise.

Who wouldn’t want to be led by the Spirit of God every day, making choices that guide us and help us to live a life full of pleasing God our Father?

When the Holy Spirit leads us and empowers us to do the things each day that need to be done, it will bring God-centered and God-empowered changes into the hardest places/situations.

We are not saying that everything will go perfectly and we will live a life with no problems.

But, in the problems we may face throughout this life, we will have the upper hand; His hand going before and behind us.

He will give us direction and the strength to keep going, allowing us to come out the other end with victory!

This life is for every believer. Don’t leave our promised Gift, our Helper, in the dark.

Receive His teachings and let Him have a place in our lives today.

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
