Bible Verse of The Day – 8-20-22

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NKJV) 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

As we all start to feel the pressure of what is going on around us in the world, we cannot close our eyes or turn our heads from it. It’s real.

There is a lot taking place in the spiritual realm, and it is playing out in the natural world, where we see it with our eyes.

It is putting pressure on our workplaces, families, finances, ministries and most of all, if we let it, the pressure will even affect our relationship with God.

The battle that we are up against cannot be fought alone. We need God to help get us through to the end.

If we are not used to leaning on Him even for the simple things, we will learn quickly.

What do we do from here?

This day that we are in requires our discernment to be sharp, and that happens by staying close to God, reading His word and praying.

It’s that simple.

Yes, it does take some of our time. We will have to stop what we are doing and make time for it.

We need to lighten the load of our daily routine and fit God into it. No skipping out because so-and-so asked us to go somewhere or do something for them.

Some nights we may even be awakened to pray. We need to make it a must to pay attention!

Put everything and everyone after prayer and our one-on-One time with our Commander in Chief. He will guide our way.

The days will seem like nothing is happening. We can’t see the spiritual battle, but we can feel the repercussions and the effects of it.

The change in what we can do and can’t do will be noticeable. The way of life that we knew is changing. We must adjust and change with it.

Pray, listen and be alert and responsive to His promptings. We will win this battle by the hand of God. We will come out victorious, and things will be beautiful as God makes all things beautiful in His time! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-19-22

John 17:1 (NKJV) 1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You

As the time for Jesus to be handed over and crucified drew near, He spent those final hours with His disciples, teaching them much about what was ahead for all of them.

As He finished this, He began praying. The two verses above are the beginning of that time of prayer.

During His life here on earth, it was uncommon for Jesus to ever do anything to bring glory to Himself. He was always careful to point everyone to the Father.

In the verse above, He asks the Father to glorify Him, which is unusual. But take note of why He prayed this; “that Your Son also may glorify You”.

You see, the glory that He was asking for was not selfish or self-serving. Its purpose was to bring glory to the Father, through what was about to take place.

He knew that His death was temporary, and that His resurrection would prove that He was the One sent by the Father to teach the people God’s ways.

None of what He did was about Himself. He came to serve, not to be served (Matthew 20:28).

Everything that Jesus did brought glory to the Father.

So, let His life be an example to us, that we might also be living examples to those around us, bringing glory to the Father through everything that we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-18-22

John 17:3 (NKJV) 3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

He has given us eternal life through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The average person thinks in their head that life on earth is it. They don’t think much about death or take it seriously.

As a matter of fact, they don’t usually give death a thought unless they are forced to.

Not talking about it, or not facing it, is deceiving ourselves and very unrealistic.

Believe me, no one wants to sit around and talk about when they will die, because it makes them sad to think about it.

But maybe we need to make it more a part of our journey and not be afraid of it. Maybe facing it will help us all to have no regrets when that time comes.

Regrets come when something sudden takes place; something we were not prepared for.

Maybe acknowledging death, instead of pretending it won’t ever come, will help us not be so shocked when it does happen.

When my dad passed last year, I was right there beside him.

I was so happy to be there. I remember as he was lying there and he neared his departure, he stared intently ahead and then asked me, “who are all those people?”.

Those were his last words. It was a moment I got to experience, and I am grateful to have been there.

It was afterwards that it hit me, he’s gone; the man that raised me, loved me, was there for me growing up and into my adult years.

The man that breathed, walked, talked and kissed me goodnight. was now laying lifeless.

As I left the room, I cried, “goodbye dad, I love you”.

The death part of it hit me hard. We had never talked much about it.

I ached in my heart from his absence in my life, and I didn’t know what to do because I never truly thought about death; never thought it would happen to him.

Death is something we will all face. It’s a big part of living. But the good news about death is that Jesus has conquered it. And if we believe He is the Son of God and that He rose again, we too will live forever with Him in Heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:14 (NKJV) 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.

Don’t be afraid of death. It is in His plan. And if we know Christ personally, we will have eternity with Him. That is where we will live forever, together! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-17-22

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Over the years, as I have spent more and more time in God’s word, the importance of doing so has become abundantly clear.

It’s not just about “learning” the word.

It’s not just about memorizing scripture.

And it’s not just about reading the Bible in its entirety.

It is about much more; so much more, in fact, that it’s too much to describe or define.

But let me make a genuine effort to put it into words so as to bring some things to light.

God’s word is not just printed text on pages.

It is not just a story that has been passed down from generation to generation, for many centuries.

It is not just a book that we read to our children to pass the tradition down to them.

God’s word is alive. It is breathing and life-giving. And it’s so critical that we grasp and understand this, or we might wither up and die.

Spending time in God’s word on a regular basis will increase our understanding, give us wisdom for making sound choices, and it will teach us who God is, making it easier for us to know who He wants us to be.

If you’ve been with us for any length of time, you’ll know that we constantly try to drive home the importance of spending time in His word, feeding on it daily. This is because of everything that was mentioned above, and for many other reasons that we haven’t mentioned. The reasons are really too numerous to cover in one devotional!

So, with all of that said, please understand the importance of this, and heed God’s promptings to pick up His word and feast on it.

It’s not just something that we should casually consider, but something that we absolutely should do each and every day.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-16-22

John 12:14-15 (NKJV) 14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey’s colt.”

The donkey that Jesus rode on was there for such a time as “that day”. It was “the donkey” that was predicted to be there for Jesus to ride on. It was there, ready and waiting, for our King.

According to the reference notes in my study Bible, from the time when it was prophesied in the the Old Testament book of Zechariah, until it came to pass in the New Testament book of John, approximately 400 years had passed.

Zechariah 9:9 (NKJV) 9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey.

It was Jesus Christ walking out His Triumphal Entry. Praise be to God. Hallelujah!

Who would have thought that a KING, the Savior of the world, would come riding on a donkey’s colt? Yet, He did!

Little did they know this same man, our KING, a week later would rise from the dead, conquering both death and hell, offering salvation to the world. Praise You, Lord!

The precision in God’s timing, and the organizing and planning that it took for this to all take place, on the day that it needed to happen, is incredibly amazing!

Knowing this, what can man do that would cause us to ever doubt Him when it comes to His provision and timing in our individual lives?

What could possibly stop Him from doing what He wants to do for us? Only our own unbelief.

Romans 8:31 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Believe and we shall witness His greater works and marvel at them.

John 5:20 (NKJV) 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-15-22

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Right now, at this very moment, so many are going through trials.

The world has become a very difficult place over the last 2 years or so. We have all faced many difficulties of one kind or another.

Some of the things we have faced have been at the hands of evil people. Others have come about in different ways; loss of a loved one, loss of a job, health problems, etc.

Regardless of the means by which they came, they have been very difficult, and in many cases leaving scars that will last a lifetime.

Many of us have been changed by these things, and we will carry those changes with us for many years to come; maybe even until the day we depart this earth.

But in all of the difficulties, there has remained one Constant who keeps us anchored; Jesus, our Redeemer and Savior.

He told us that there will be trials and tribulations. He spoke it plainly. But in that same verse, He also told us to “be of good cheer”. Why? Because He has overcome the world.

As children of the Most High God, we are not guaranteed an easy life of only pleasures and immense happiness. Instead, we are assured that when we go through the difficulties, He will be with us, walking us through each step.

So, it is in this that we take our comfort, knowing that even in His own difficulties, He overcame them, giving that victory to us as well.

So, take heart today. Hold tightly to Him in the midst of your storm. He will not lose His grip on us.

In that, my brothers and sisters, take heart, find your rest and your comfort.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-13-22

Psalm 37:3 (NKJV) 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

Feed off His faithfulness!

He is just like His word says; very faithful.

He is omnipresent; Present everywhere at the same time.

He is omnipotent; having unlimited power and able to do anything.

He is omniscient; He knows everything!

That about covers it all, wouldn’t you agree?

He is trustworthy and loves us deeply.

He knows our hearts, and He is speaking to the very hearts of those who might need to take a step of faith today.

Not tomorrow. Not next week. Not when we think we’ve got it all together. And not when we see results of what we are waiting on.

That is not having faith. That is calling the shots ourselves and receiving the results of the plans of a mere man vs. the results of the plans of an Almighty God!

Reach out for Him and His plan today, and trust Him.

Yes, there will be times when He may show us what to do and it will seem rather off the wall compared to our human, intellectual minds.

But, if we feel like it is Him, we need to trust it all the way through!

His faithfulness will surprise us, even in His provision for those little things we need. He will take care of it all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-12-22

John 15:20 (NKJV) 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

As children of God, there will be times when we feel like we don’t belong.

We will be ignored or shunned.

We will hear things spoken to us or about us that hurt.

We will lose out on things that we were seeking or pursuing.

And we may face various kinds of verbal or even physical persecution.

All because we are followers of Christ.

None of these things are pleasant. Some are very uncomfortable. And some can be downright brutal, both emotionally and physically.

For some of us, this might be a regular part of our daily life. Much of this can depend on where we live or how outspoken we are about our faith.

Other times, it can depend on how we live out our faith.

Living out or walking out our faith will typically draw attention to the fact that we’re not like the rest of the world. We don’t live out our faith for that reason (to get attention). But when we live differently than those around us, it will draw attention, whether we like it or not.

Why does this happen? Usually because the choices we make are not the same as the choices made by those who are not children of God (followers of Christ). So, because we choose differently, we stand out.

Persecution of any kind can be frustrating. If the persecution is extreme, it can be life-altering. And for some it may even mean that it is life-ending.

These are never pleasant things to discuss, and surely not pleasant to go through.

But know this; Jesus was persecuted for you and for me, and He told us that if we belonged to Him, we would be subjected to the same thing.

So, if I go through trials and tribulations for the sake of His name, I count it a blessing, and I will lean On God to bring me through it.

James 1:2 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials…

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-11-22

1 Corinthians 13:6 (NKJV) 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It can be very hard some days to find enjoyment. Maybe it’s because we see and feel the pressure of the (spiritual) atmosphere around us.

Maybe we are struggling in our emotions, trying to stay happy while we see so much of what we know to be evil going on. This can make us feel hopeless.

Maybe we are so tired on some days that we cannot find an ounce of strength within us to rejoice.

Don’t beat ourselves up over it.

Some days the strength just isn’t there. This is normal.

We are not perfect. We don’t have to pretend we are. It won’t do any of us any good.

We have eyes and ears, and as God’s children we are sensitive to all the things around us. Some days, hearing and seeing certain things can be a lot. And it can take a toll on us.

Because we don’t delight in evil, when it is allowed to run freely we have to work much harder to keep the truth at the forefront of our hearts. It can get exhausting.

But don’t lose heart. The power of the wicked will one day be broken.

Psalm 37:17 (NKJV) 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.

Just a little reminder of the truth today. Evil will be broken and the righteous will have victory!! Rejoice.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-10-22

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Living holy lives is a very important part of our walk with God.

Many may think that because we live under God’s grace, there is no need for holy, righteous living. This could not be further from the truth.

Others may even say that because Jesus was so loving and kind, and because He spent time hanging out with sinners, we don’t need to worry about holy living.

Again, this is not truth.

Take note than when Jesus spent time with sinners, He spoke truth to them, encouraging them to get their hearts right with God.

In John 8:11, when He spoke with the woman caught in adultery, He told her to “go and sin no more”.

Some of the original texts actually said, “go, and from now on, sin no more”.

And if we compare various translations, many of them indicate that Jesus was inferring that she needed to leave her life of sin.

So, He made it clear to her that she needed to leave her sin behind and do what is right in God’s eyes.

And this applies to us as well.

Paul used the word, beseech. That’s a very strong word, meaning to plead, to implore, to ask urgently, or to beg.

Based on that, it’s evident that Paul wanted badly for the Roman Christians to leave their lives of sin behind.

Paul was referring here mainly to sexual sins, since Rome was well-known for this. But we need to apply this to every aspect of our lives.

And I like what Paul said about our lives; presenting them as living sacrifices. In other words, we need to give our bodies to God. Dedicate them to Him.

Doing this will cause us to take the choices we make much more seriously, since we are now living as though we do not belong to ourselves, but to Him.

1 Corinthians 6:20 (NKJV) 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

We have been bought. We are not our own. Let’s be careful to live like we are His.
