Bible Verse of The Day – 8-31-22

Ephesians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ…

God has created and given us everything and everyone we need to thrive as the body of Christ.

Above, He listed the people who equip the body, raising her up and teaching her everything that’s needed to live a life that’s worthy of the name of Jesus and that’s strong for the kingdom of God.

These five “offices” are responsible for training up and equipping the saints of God from the moment they put their faith in Christ until they breathe their last breath here on earth.

Thinking about this reminds me of a parent raising a child, trying to strike that delicate balance between love, discipline, nurturing, exhorting, edifying, etc.

Sometimes this requires saying or teaching things that might not necessarily be popular or easy to say but are required for “proper nutrition” of those who hear.

Most of us would much rather hear something that’s joyful and uplifting vs. something that’s serious and somber.

This is akin to trying to get your children to eat their fruits and vegetables when there is a freshly prepared dessert right in from of them!

But God is faithful, and He guides each of us every day as we seek to serve Him and worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

And as we learn to “eat” those things that are harder to swallow, along with the things that are more pleasant, we will be balanced, strong and ready to answer the call when God places something in front of us that He wants us to do.

So, let’s be prepared to eat what God serves to us, whether it’s a platter of spinach, kale and broccoli or a plateful of brownies and chocolate cake (or whatever our favorite dessert might be).

We may or may not like it at that moment, but if God is serving it, we know that it’s beneficial for us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-22

John 12:27 (NKJV) 27 “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

Jesus asked, “what shall I say?”. And then He answered His own question.

Jesus came for this hour, for one purpose, to glorify His Father on the cross by His sacrificial death.

He was troubled because He knew what He was about to face. It was not going to be easy, not even for the KING of kings, knowing that what He came to do was fast approaching.

What He did for His Father should be the heart of the church. It should move us. It is the very breath of Jesus’s work here; to see His Father glorified in everything He did!

He went to great lengths to obey the Father. And we, His children, should have the same heart as we learn to follow all of the examples set by Jesus in our individual walk with God.

We too may find ourselves troubled at times when we are called to obey and do something specific to glorify the Father.

These are moments when “the rubber meets the road,” so to speak. And we have to decide whether we will surrender to Someone greater and give up our own will in order for His will to be done.

It’s a challenge, and it can sometimes be very troubling. But it is worth every bit of that trouble if we choose to follow through.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-29-22

Psalm 18:1 (NLT) 1 I love you, Lord; you are my strength.

This short, simple verse sums up so much while using so few words.

Sometimes we use so many words to try to express our thoughts and feelings. And there are times when that is necessary.

But sometimes we just need to be direct and say what we mean as succinctly as possible. And this verse is a perfect example of that.

I love you, Lord.

Those words say it all.

There will be times where we might feel the need to expound on that sentiment and pour our heart out to Him. And that’s good to do from time to time.

But simplicity can also be a good thing.

So, never be afraid to simply say, whether in your heart or out loud, I love you, Lord.

He is worthy of hearing this from us. He does, after all, love us beyond what words can express. This is evident in the mercy and the grace that He shows toward us.

Tell Him today that you love Him. It’s good for us to share our hearts with Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-27-22

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

I am in awe of the moments when God does something to show us how personal He is.

I celebrated my birthday recently. I remember thinking around that time how nice it would be if the last project in our new home would be finished in time for my birthday.

The carpenter had been working on it intermittently, but it was still not complete. I knew he was swamped with work and I did not want to press him.

But then, a couple days before my birthday, my husband, said to me unexpectedly, “the carpenter is coming today”.

I was excited, but still not expecting to have the project finished, knowing the work involved and his busy schedule.

But, you see, God knows our desires. And between Him and my husband, they worked together to make this happen!

The project was completed that same day. So, I got a wonderful birthday present from my beloved Lord and my wonderful husband who saw it through.

Thank you, Father, for always causing us to be in awe at Your magnificence and faithfulness, even in those things that might seem insignificant!

And I’m grateful to have such a blessed man of God by my side, till death do us part.

God bless you all. Enjoy the faithfulness of our Lord as He brings those personal thoughts to life and gives us the desires of our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-26-22

Acts 8:1 (NLT) 1 Saul was one of the witnesses, and he agreed completely with the killing of Stephen. A great wave of persecution began that day, sweeping over the church in Jerusalem; and all the believers except the apostles were scattered through the regions of Judea and Samaria.

As the early church began to grow and flourish, it seemed like nothing could possibly stop them.

The number of people being added to the body of Christ was increasing daily. The believers were helping each other, and miracles were being performed regularly.

What could possibly go wrong?

And then Saul showed up, inciting hatred and violence upon the believers. His goal was to stop this new movement, even if it meant killing some of them.

He even gave his approval to the stoning death of Steven.

This immense persecution caused fear to sweep over the church, and all the believers except the apostles fled, scattering throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria.

And so began the end of Christianity. Or so it might have seemed.

But you see, what the devil means for evil, God uses for good.

And those very same believers who scattered took with them the gospel of truth, and they began to share it with others everywhere they went!

Acts 8:4 (NLT) 4 But the believers who were scattered preached the Good News about Jesus wherever they went.

So, as they taught the people about Jesus, His truth spread far and wide.

This thing that Saul and the other Jews tried to stop became unstoppable, flourishing despite what appeared to be imminent decimation with the death of Steven.

And to top it all off, God tore from Saul the desire to kill Christians by making him one!

Isn’t that just like our God?

We need to always remember that even the darkest times can be turned around. And nobody can do that the way God does.

Genesis 50:20 (NLT) 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good…

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-25-22

John 12:26 (NKJV) 26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.

We need to be reminded today that, as God’s children, we are here to serve Him.

By serving Him we will be where He is, in the midst of touching the lives of others. It’s not hard to understand, and once we get it we will be right in that place we need to be with Jesus.

This is the place of servanthood. The place where hearts are changed.

It may not happen overnight, and we may never see the full results of our service. But know and trust that the Lord will see all, and He will guide us on things like timing and the right words to say.

He will give us strength to press in and not give up.

Don’t look for recognition for our services from man. If it comes, give God the glory. Most importantly, follow God’s peace in all we do.

Servants will often not be noticed by others for their good works . Many times, servants are looked down upon and frowned on.

Most times they are abused and mistreated.

Rejoice and know that our most High God will not look down on us and frown. But instead, He will honor our servanthood.

Let us serve with joy!

Who needs God’s love, His compassion, His correction, His grace and mercy today? Let us listen carefully to what the Holy Spirit is saying, and follow His lead. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-24-22

Jeremiah 24:7 (NKJV) 7 Then I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the Lord; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God, for they shall return to Me with their whole heart.

Over the years, as I have drawn closer to God and studied His word more, I have come to understand that there are two things that please God immensely; surrender and obedience.

These two things in our lives will help us to walk our walk with Him in a way that’s pleasing more than anything else.

Interestingly, these two things go hand in hand.

You see, in order to obey God, we need to surrender.

Surrender has to come first because it helps us to be more willing to obey. A heart that’s not surrendered will never be as willing to obey God as a heart that has fully surrendered (submitted).

Surrender (submission) comes only as we learn of Him and allow Him to change our heart.

It requires that we genuinely pursue Him and put Him first in everything that we do; even in those things that might seem insignificant to us, or in things that we might think don’t matter to Him.

Everything matters.

Every choice that we make and every little thing that we do will either take us closer to Him or further away.

So, once we have made the choice to surrender to Him, we will no longer be living our lives to please ourselves, but to bring honor and glory to Him. And this will cause us to obey Him.

This is why it’s so important for us to understand that He wants our whole heart, not just a piece of it.

Let’s give Him our whole heart. And in doing so, we will more readily surrender and obey Him in all that we do. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-23-22

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) 7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

We all struggle with what to do with fear when it hits.

Fear should never cause us to do something we regret. Fear is simply an emotion that we will feel at certain times.

It can help us or hurt us. But it should never control us.

Some fear can cripple us if we let it, while other fear can cause us to make a good decision.

If we are afraid to do something that we know is wrong, and can hurt us or others, this kind of fear will help us make a right choice if we listen to it. This is a good, healthy fear.

If we are fearful about doing something that will be good for us, and we aren’t sure about it because we never did it before, this is not a good fear to listen to.

In order to beat this type of fear, we must push through it and attempt what we think is impossible. Even if we are scared, we need to take charge and not let the fear control us or prevent us from doing what we know to do.

God gave us a spirit of power, love and sound mind. Why?

To make good choices even when we feel fearful. These attributes will help us to push through even if we are scared.

Fear should not control us. And if we let it, we will find ourselves standing still when we should be moving forward.

It can keep us in bondage, locked down and wimpy. Fear needs to be kept in its proper place.

As children of God, we can’t let fear control us and ruin what God wants to do through us and for us. We need to take control and not look back. And we can’t second guess or entertain thoughts of, “what if”.

Move forward in our God-given spirit of power, love and sound mind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-22-22

Psalm 149:4 (NKJV) 4 For the Lord takes pleasure in His people; He will beautify the humble with salvation.

Humility is such an important quality that God’s word says He actually rewards it.

In fact, there are 3 different scriptures (Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6, 1 Peter 5:5) which state that He opposes the proud, “but gives grace to the humble”.

What is humility and how do we develop it?

Stated very simply, humility is defined as: a modest view of one’s own importance.

Many people often mistakenly assume that humility is a negative thing, especially when discussing self-esteem.

But we need to understand that self-esteem is not a Biblical principle. It is worldly and revolves around pride.

So, how is humility developed?

Sometimes it is taught to us by our parents. This might be done by them telling us not to be proud or haughty. Sometimes it comes by watching their example as they walk it out in their own lives.

Most often, though, we learn humility through being humiliated; shown that we were wrong.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that someone purposely embarrasses us. But that we learn lessons from the mistakes and poor choices that we make. And by seeing that we have made poor choices, which result in less than ideal things happening in our lives, we become more humble.

We learn from our mistakes and we understand that we don’t always have the right answers.

This is a process. It doesn’t happen overnight. But over time we understand that being willing to admit that we’re wrong and humbly accept our faults will make us less apt to be proud and haughty.

This puts us on a path to pleasing God and being rewarded by Him as well.
