Bible Verse of The Day – 4-19-22

Psalm 40:8 (NKJV) 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”

Delight to do His will.

How many today can say this, like David did, and really mean it?

It’s easy when we don’t feel the pressure of things around us making it hard. But when push comes to shove, and people, circumstances, and our own flesh pull on us, there’s nothing easy about it.

As believers, we can be truthful with each other and admit that it’s hard.

The Father’s will; what is His will?

To be disciplined enough to obey His word. Living in this world we have to work hard at obeying what God tells us to do. We have to keep on that path of righteous living.

Romans 7:15 (NKJV) 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.

Paul admits it in Romans when he says, the very thing I want to do I don’t and the thing I don’t want to do, I do.

Why?

Because of the pressure on our emotions at times. It wears on us. We can get weary.

But Praise be to God, that He is faithful to sustain us and keep us pressing forward.

Do our best and let God be our strong hand, and help us with that which we can’t.

Psalm 136:12 (NKJV) 12 With a strong hand, and with an outstretched arm, For His mercy endures forever…

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-18-22

Psalm 19:14 (NKJV) 14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer.

I truly enjoy reading and studying God’s word. With each bit of new understanding I gain, I am drawn closer and closer to Him.

I have learned that the deeper mysteries of the word really draw me in and help me mature as a believer.

But sometimes I like to reflect and meditate on some of the most foundational truths. They help shore up my faith and keep me grounded.

This scripture is one of those.

Specifically, those last five words really sum up who God is to me; “my strength and my Redeemer”.

And I especially like the Hebrew word for strength literally means “rock”.

That is what God is. He is my Rock.

He is who I cling to every minute of every day.

Why?

Because He is the only One who can be counted on day after day to be stable and unchanging.

In Him there is no variation or shadow of turning (James 1:17).

What exactly does that mean?

It means that, unlike everything else about the earth and the rest of creation, He never changes. He doesn’t move. He is fixed (stationary), so to speak, so there is never any danger of Him not being there or suddenly changing.

He is the one constant in each and every one of our lives.

Cling to Him. Draw near to Him. Trust Him with every fiber of your being.

He will never, ever fail us.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-16-22

John 3:36 (NKJV) 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

My heart trembles for those who will not believe in Jesus Christ.

They have no idea what is ahead for them if they continue to be stiff-necked towards God’s redemption plan for them.

Some just don’t care. Others understand it but they won’t bend and surrender their will.

But I also know that if they were to look around and see the world as a whole, they would realize that there is NO way all of this could have been created without a Creator.

And the way He orchestrated everything just right for our salvation is miraculous.

It took Someone as magnificent as God to make such an excellent, compassionate, merciful and sacrificial arrangement for our freedom. They choose with their own hearts to refuse it.

God gives us every opportunity to see His miraculous work and to know His plan for us. But some will not receive it as truth, and thus will see His wrath.

It’s the heart of man that has to make the decision to seek God out and find His truth.

We are praying today for those who are unsure, that they will ask God to reveal His Son to them in such a way that they will repent of their sin and know the truth. And that the Truth will set them free and give them everlasting life. Amen.

John 8:32 (NKJV) 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Bible Verse of the Day – 4-15-22

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Perseverance is a big deal in our walk with God.

It’s not uncommon for each of us to encounter situations from time to time where we just want to throw our hands up in the air and run away from the things that we’re facing.

This is normal for our flesh to react this way.

Even mature, seasoned believers can run into this sometimes.

There is no secret formula that will prevent us from encountering tough situations or circumstances.

We can, however, learn how to handle those situations better from a Biblical perspective.

This requires that we change the way we look at things, shifting from seeing things through the lens of our own desires to what God desires for us.

Hebrews 12:3 (NKJV) 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

Jesus forsook His fleshly desires to do what pleased His Father. It’s what He thrived on. And it must become what we thrive on if we also hope to please our Father in heaven.

It won’t always be easy. In fact, it will sometimes be downright hard. But we can rest in knowing that we don’t do this on our own. We do it by the power given to us by the Holy Spirit, who leads and guides us.

And what is the reward for this?

In due season we shall reap if we don’t lose heart.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-14-22

Philippians 3:13 (NKJV) 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead…

“Don’t look back” was a word that I got the other day while I was praying.

This is not an easy word.

It is so hard sometimes to not want to revisit those places and things that once brought us joy and comfort. We just love familiarity.

We humans love the things we are used to having or doing. We often reach for them to find comfort.

The neat thing about God is that He knows what is best for us. And knowing that will help us to reach forward to take bigger steps than we ever thought we would take.

Don’t look back is not hard to understand, but it is hard to do.

When we look back and remember how things were, it gives us a false sense of comfort. It will only last for a short time.

When we realize we are not there anymore, we fall back into a deeper sadness, and even depression if we are not careful.

This word today, “don’t look back”, is for our own good.

God has a place for us. And when we let go and allow Him to show us, we will dance, sing and shout in such great victory!

Hopefully we will listen today and stop going back to the past, and focus on what is ahead of us. We will be amazed if we trust Him and give Him full freedom in our lives.

Forget the things behind us and reach forward with everything in us. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-13-22

Daniel 2:20-22 (NKJV) 20 Daniel answered and said: “Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, For wisdom and might are His. 21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.

Sometimes things can be hard to swallow.

Being a child of God doesn’t negate that.

There are sometimes things that God does that can baffle us. And I will readily admit that sometimes I get frustrated with the way I see things go.

But, as a child of God, I also understand fully that God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. And so, I rest in that knowing that my ways would likely render less than ideal results.

As I mentioned in a previous devotional, Daniel saw beyond the natural and understood the deeper spiritual things.

This gave Daniel a unique perspective that allowed God to use him in unusual and very powerful ways.

With regard to that, Daniel stated that God not only changes the times and seasons, but He also removes kings and raises up kings.

This is one of those things that my flesh has a hard time with, since some of the “kings” that we see operating are clearly operating at less than godly standards. Some are outright evil in their behaviors and their methods.

But, because I am a child of God, and He has given me His Spirit, I am learning more every day about trusting Him and being content with knowing that He is still on His throne and still in charge.

This saves me a lot of headaches because it causes me to question less of that I see.

Does this mean that I shut my mouth and simply watch as evil thrives? Absolutely not.

But it does mean that I am spending more time seeking God, and working harder to discern what we are all seeing, hoping to better understand it all from a spiritual point of view.

I’d like to invite you to do the same; to allow God to shape our view in a more spiritually-minded, Biblically-educated way that helps us better discern the things we’re seeing happen around us, and trust Him with them.

And, as part of that, to lay my concerns at His feet, letting Him guide my thoughts and my steps so that I might bring Him more glory and honor with each day that I live for Him.

Bible Verse of the Day – 4-12-22

John 4:16-18 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”

This verse always intrigues me, because I know that Jesus knew she didn’t have a husband. But He asked her to go call him.

It’s like He gave her the perfect opportunity to tell the truth.

And praise God she didn’t try to hide it or lie about it. She didn’t know Jesus, and she could have easily lied. But instead, she shared her personal information with Him.

It’s important not to be in denial with Jesus about our lifestyle if we are doing things that are wrong.

We need to be able to see it and admit it or confess it. And speaking it out of our own mouth, for some reason, brings it home.

Is Jesus reading our mail today, asking us a personal question regarding our own situation?

Are we continuing in some sort of sin, and it’s time to see it for what it is and straighten things out?

Is it our opportune time to speak truth about what we are doing? Is it our time to own it and deal with it?

Let us not be in denial, trying to make excuses. We can’t hide it from Him any longer.

Let’s speak truthfully about it and let Jesus help us find deliverance and live a righteous life. He is willing.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-11-22

Daniel 1:8 (NKJV) 8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Daniel was an outstanding young man of God.

He chose to do what was right in the eyes of God, even if something appeared on the surface to be acceptable.

Daniel served under a king from a foreign land whom God had chosen to defeat the Israeli people, leading many of them away into exile. And he did so with great integrity.

How could he do this? Because he understood the deeper spiritual things, including the fact that sometimes we need to look beyond what we see with the natural eye.

Daniel also understood the importance of keeping himself pure in God’s eyes. He did not want to defile himself.

So, when he was told by his overseer that he would be required to consume food and drinks that were not acceptable to him, he took the steps necessary to do what he could do to change that.

Daniel put himself at risk by even mentioning this. He was after all, a slave of sorts to the king, since he had been appointed to serve in the king’s palace.

But he took the risk and did what he knew in his heart was right. And God gave him favor.

Let each of us be like Daniel. Let’s do the thing that is right, even if it means taking risks and standing out from the crowd.

It may not always be easy, but when we do what pleases God, He will show us His favor.

And pleasing God is surely more important than pleasing man.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-22

Matthew 7:13-14 (NKJV) 13 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Why are there few that find it? Two words tell us why; “it’s difficult”.

In order to enter through the narrow gate, we must be willing to surrender. And that is hard to do. Our flesh loves worldly- minded things.

We must truly be reborn in Christ to walk out such a life. We have to be changed from within. Our new birth must take precedence over our old self. And, we need a Helper, to guide us and teach us how to do it.

John 14:26 (NKJV) 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Most people will not want to give up worldly things. They will not want to be bothered asking for help from anyone, never mind the Holy Spirit. They love feeding their own cravings, things that please them. They live for the wide gate and the broad way.

It takes courage and discipline to take the path that few will find; the road that no one wants.

It may be a bumpy ride, not too comfortable, a little stiff, and it can be exhausting at times.

It may be scary. And some moments may cause pain and heartache.

Loneliness is a common thread on this road. And having to learn to say, “no” a lot to our own desires can be a daily struggle. Some may think it is too hard to do.

But we do not walk it out on our own. We have a Helper. And even though there is much self to lose, what we lose will be nothing in comparison to the new life that He gives us to live.

Will we find the narrow gate and surrender to the cross that stands before us today? Or will we line up with our worldly desires and keep living on the broad path to destruction?
