Bible Verse of the Day – 4-30-22

Isaiah 41:10 (NKJV) 10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

What a day it will be when our Jesus we shall see.

Some day we will all be in Heaven with Him and see Him face to face.

But while we are here on earth, we can see His character in the faces of believers. His behavior and discipline should be strong in us if we allow Him to change our hearts to resemble Him.

As believers, we are the body of Christ. And if we are united through Him and we walk together, we will shine His glory with His presence living in each one of us.

We are not little Christs, like some may teach. And we never will be. Jesus is Lord forever!

However, we are His family. He has saved us from ourselves.

How do we see Jesus here on this earth? We look into the eyes of our faithful brothers and sisters in Him; those who have been born again. We will see His traits in them.

Just as children from our natural parents, every now and then we will see traits of our mom and dad in us without even trying.

They will spring up in us at times and we will say, “did I just sound like my parents?”.

That’s what happens when we are God’s children. We begin to sound and act like our Father as we grow closer to Him and allow Him to change us in the areas we need to change.

When we grow, we began to talk like Him, respond like Him, love like Him, etc.

Each one of us individually will have something special to offer in this world.

Let’s come together, children of the most high God. Let us move and walk to the beat of His words. Let us love like He has called us to love.

Let us praise and worship Him from a true heart and live the life He has for us.

Together we will shine His light on this earth. Together we will carry out His plan and reach the lost. Together we will be His bride and enter into His gates with thanksgiving!

Hallelujah, God is good!

Together is how it’s all done.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-29-22

Matthew 8:19-22 (NKJV) 19 Then a certain scribe came and said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” 21 Then another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 22 But Jesus said to him, “Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

In keeping with yesterday’s devotional, which dealt with suffering for our faith, let’s take a look at the cost of following Jesus.

This is never a popular topic. It’s not fun, and it doesn’t give us the warm fuzzies. It doesn’t get anyone excited. And it won’t be something that draws many people.

It’s inconvenient. It’s uncomfortable. And it can be scary for some to contemplate.

But it is reality; truth in plain sight. And it is a reality that we all need to understand, realizing that some of us will need to embrace it on a personal level.

For Jesus, the cost was His life, literally. That was the price He paid for being obedient.

Philippians 2:8 (NKJV) 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

For us, we may not die for our faith in Christ. But there may be a cost that we pay each day, a little here and a little there.

This may include denying our own wants and desires in order to do what God wants us to do vs. what we’d like to do.

It might mean that we surrender something major in our lives in order to walk the path that God has set before us.

There can be very, very many ways that we pay the cost of following Jesus. And sometimes it can be painful. That’s something that’s not nice to talk about.

But again, it is truth. And truth needs to be addressed.

So, let each of us consider these things carefully. And let us seek God, and ask Him to help us be willing to pay whatever cost we are asked to pay in order to follow Jesus.

And let us surrender to God, that He might be honored and glorified in our lives, which should be our ultimate goal and desire.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-28-22

Philippians 1:29 (NKJV) 29 For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake…

No one wants to hear about suffering for Christ, but it is definitely a part of our walk with Him.

We will suffer at times, and not all suffering is the same. It’s different from time to time.

Some will be abused because of their stance for Christ. Some will be looked at differently. Some will be mocked and laughed at. Some will be persecuted to great lengths, even physically. And some people will die for their faith in Christ.

None of this is pleasant to talk about. But we must know the truth. And sometimes the truth is not easy to swallow.

Believing in Christ will come at a cost. We are not talking here about our salvation, because Jesus already paid for that. He bore the cross for our sins.

However, our walk with Him here on this earth will sometimes be difficult because of our belief in Him.

No matter what the cost may be, or the suffering we endure, it will be well worth whatever we go through for Him.

He will be there with us, giving us the strength to bear it. And when we are at a loss for words, He will give us wisdom in what to say in that moment.

Jehovah God, Jesus Christ His Son, and the Holy Spirit are on our side!! They are working with us, alongside us. Who can be against us? Amen

Romans 8:31 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-27-22

Amos 5:4 NKJV) 4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live;

“Seek Me and Live” are words that we need to pay close attention to, and heed in our own lives.

God spoke these words to the nation of Israel centuries ago through the prophet, Amos. But they are still very relevant today.

It is our seeking after God that brings life to us. God is life, and it is through Him that we obtain life, both here on earth and for eternity.

These words are not a one-time occurrence. God urges us throughout His word to seek Him. This alone should show us the importance of what he is telling us to do.

And here’s the best part of this seeking endeavor; when we actually begin to seek Him, walking it out daily in our lives, we will begin to see the fruits of it.

Our heart will change. Our thinking will change. And, ultimately, our lives will change.

When we seek Him, and He begins to touch our lives, we can’t help but change.

So, we implore you today, that if you are not putting the time and effort into genuinely, wholeheartedly seeking Him, start doing so today.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-26-22

John 4:39 (NKJV) 39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.”

Sharing what God has done for us, the things He has brought us through, and the grace and mercy He has given us at times will help others to believe that He is a good God.

A personal testimony is always so touching. It will help others to see He was not just there for those in the Bible days, but that He is alive and moving even today!

Jesus talked with this woman. When He told her all that she had done, it opened her eyes to see that He was the Christ. She ran and told others. And by doing so, others believed too!

I find it interesting that nothing is hidden from Him, but yet we hold back on opening up. At times we carry some heavy things around with us until we break and we can’t do it any longer.

He knows our story already. Let Him help us get free from it all. He will bring healing and deliverance to us. Why? Because He loves us and will forgive us.

Our testimony to others can be the very thing that helps them find Jesus in their lives. But like this woman, we must not be worried or afraid to share the things He does for us.

Let His boldness rise up within us and open our hearts to let it out.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-25-22

Hosea 14:9 (NLT) 9 Let those who are wise understand these things. Let those with discernment listen carefully. The paths of the Lord are true and right, and righteous people live by walking in them. But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

As the book of Hosea is coming to a close, the prophet penned these closing words above.

The beginning of the verse mentions “these things”. “These things” refers to the prophecies that he shared previously.

Hosea is encouraging those who are wise to understand the things that God has spoken through him.

He then urges those with discernment to listen carefully.

His closing sentences especially hit home with me when I read them.

The paths of the Lord are true and right.

Everything about God is true. The paths He lays down for us are right (perfect, flawless, faultless).

And what does he say next? That righteous people live by walking them.

As children of God, it behooves us to walk the paths that God has set before us. It is what He desires.

Does that mean it will always be easy? Not at all. And that can sometimes scare us away.

But we need to know and understand that if God directs our steps, those steps are what’s best for us, even though it may sometimes be uncomfortable, or may possibly even hurt.

What is our goal as followers of Christ? To follow Christ and the examples He set for us.

Jesus followed the will of the Father all the way through, including surrendering His life on the cross for humanity.

So, if we are truly following Him, wouldn’t it make sense for us to follow God’s path, even when it might be hard?

As we wrap up this teaching, let’s take a look at what Hosea said in closing; in those paths sinners stumble and fall.

Knowing that, if we are God’s children, shouldn’t we be the ones who don’t stumble and fall on His path?

Let’s ponder on that for a while.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-23-22

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

When things go wrong, the storm has hit and we are laying on our backs looking up, trying to clean up the messes, remember Who’s we are.

Don’t look at it all at once. Start with one day at a time. Sometimes even one hour at a time.

It’s not easy, and no one said that this life would be. Jesus said it all when He talks about tribulations. But He does end it on a good note.

He has overcome and so will we!

Maybe we’ve been through some things and we hurt from it. Maybe we are deeply scarred.

Don’t let the joy be lost. Choose to let God help us laugh again and to shine bright.

It may not happen immediately. But over time we will heal and find the strength to smile again.

Laughter will fill our hearts once again and we will have a testimony to share with others that may bring encouragement and victory in a dark season.

Look up today. Our help comes from the Lord, our Overcomer!

Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV) 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-22-22

Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace…

The mission of Christ here on earth was immeasurable in its scope; to save humanity from their sins.

As I read this verse, I noticed that the entirety of that mission was summed up here in one tidy little package.

In Him (Christ) we have redemption through His blood.

It is the blood of Christ that redeems us; washes us clean from our sins. We just need to apply it to ourselves by trusting Him and putting our faith in Him.

We can also have forgiveness for our sins through Christ by the simple act of sincerely repenting and asking for His forgiveness.

How could this be?

Because the death of Christ bought us (literally purchased us) out from under the burden (bonds, chains) of slavery. Slavery to what? Slavery to sin.

And if we look at the very last part of this verse, we are told how this is all made possible; according to the riches of His grace.

It is the grace of God that makes this possible. Without that grace, we would all be eternally condemned, without hope.

But by His grace we can be set free and become a child of God, allowing us to walk with Him in a relationship that will change us for eternity.

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-21-22

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV) 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Boy, the fruit sounds so great!

Can we just picture it? God’s children all walk together in this. It makes me happy just thinking about it. What a beautiful way to live!

There is only one thing that stops us from walking completely in this; our flesh.

That’s right. Our own self.

Talk about control over what we can do and not do. We have it in us, but sometimes, as we all know, it’s hard to control our feelings.

We’ve got to be wise.

Proverbs 29:11 (NKJV) 11 A fool vents all his feelings, but a wise man holds them back.

Our emotions like to have control. And if we let them, they can take us down the opposite road of what we should be doing, saying and feeling.

We need to hold back our emotions at times and tell them how they are going to behave. Not the other way around.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-20-22

Hosea 6:6 (NKJV) 6 For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

One of the most important things we can learn as believers is to understand what God truly desires from us.

Many people go to great lengths to try to please God. But they get caught up in repetitive things; traditions, habits, routines, rituals, etc.

And many times, we view the things we do as a great sacrifice to God.

But our habits and routines don’t please God. In fact, they do quite the opposite.

What pleases God is our sincere, heartfelt love for and dedication to Him. This leads to us obeying Him, not out of blind tradition, but out of a sincerity of heart that goes way beyond a ritualistic or habit-driven action ever could.

In the verse above, it’s important to note that the word, mercy, is better translated as faithfulness or loyalty.

So, let us not be rote, habitual or mechanical in our walk with God.

Instead, let’s be sincere, faithful and loyal, that we may hear His voice readily and not quick to shut Him out because what we see or hear doesn’t match our routines.

Remember what the prophet, Samuel, said to Saul in 1 Samuel 15:22; to obey is better than sacrifice.
