Bible Verse of The Day – 6-8-21

Genesis 3:5 (NKJV) 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

When Eve ate the forbidden fruit, that’s when sin took hold and death set in. Wow, just by one person.

It’s like Eve needed someone to say, “NOOOOOO”!

She needed someone to be strong and get in her face and say, “stop, don’t do it”. Someone to say, “it’s not worth it”.

She needed a good friend. A friend that wouldn’t care if she got mad or offended, who would just tell her the truth about what she was about to do.

Spiritual death is terrible. It is a loss, no matter how we look at it. And we should take a good look at it.

As God’s children, we have a choice. And that choice we make is so important.

Spiritual death comes from one word; disobedience.

We can get involved with the wrong things and bring spiritual death to our walk with God.

What are we, the church, doing today that may be causing spiritual death?

Are we disobedient? Is our disobedience leading to sin?

Are we just going with the flow and not speaking up when we know we should?

If that’s the case, then we are just as much at fault for going along with it.

Don’t get us wrong. There are some great things that are going on today in churches.

But if we want to go further, we must stop and get a handle on some things.

Don’t be adding to or taking away from God’s word. That is just like Eve taking a bite of the forbidden fruit, once it’s bitten into, death and destruction follow.

Deuteronomy 12:32 (NKJV) 32 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.

Don’t let pretty words and fancy entertainment pull us away from the truth. The enemy is deceitful and cunning.

We need to surround ourselves with people who will not lie to us, but speak truth when we need to hear it. They need to be willing to speak truth to us even if we might get mad or get our feelings hurt.

We need those people that are grounded in God’s word to say, “NO! It’s not worth it. No, you are about to make a bad move. No, it might look good, but deep down it’s not and if you mess with it, it will be sure to bring spiritual death to you”.

The enemy is subtle and sly, and will deceive us with words  and actions that will get to us.

Genesis 3:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

Right here is where she needed someone to step in and tell her, “he’s a liar!”.

It was obvious that he had her. She was drawn in by his cunning ways.

Where are those who will take a stand and not back down, no matter how hard it will get, no matter the persecution that may come for standing up? Where are those who will say, “no, don’t bite it!”?

Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-7-21

Psalm 16:11 (NKJV) 11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

The path of life; the place where we move toward Him, one step at a time.

He places our feet on that path. He gives us everything we need to walk that path.

He leads us. He guides us. He teaches us, convicts us, chastens us, encourages us, forgives us.

The rest is up to us. Do we walk this path and please Him? Or do we wander from it and please ourselves?

Sometimes this path can be hard. Things can come our way that hurt and make life difficult for a season.

Those things will typically draw us closer to God if we let them.

God can use them to teach us, shape us and mold us, if we let Him.

The question is, “will we let Him?”.

Will we follow Him, through good times and tough times, letting Him teach us? Or will we do our best to avoid discomfort, and step off the path in order to seek comfort and “the warm fuzzies”?

Sometimes the best thing for us is a good dose of truth. Truth can be uncomfortable. Sometimes it can downright hurt.

But truth will set us free if we let it.

We just have to let it. We have to be willing to embrace the truth in a way that helps us bear the pain and discomfort of making whatever changes need to be made for us to get free of the things that hurt us and rip us away from God and the path He has for us.

Will we seek truth and embrace it? Will we let God help us get free of the things that hurt us and try to destroy our relationship with Him?

Truth and freedom the hard way, or lies and the path of least resistance?

The choice is ours.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-5-21

Psalm 37:5 (NKJV) 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

Welcome to the final devotional in our mini-series covering Psalm 37:3-5. We hope it’s been informative for you so far.

Today, let’s take a look at verse 5.

Commit your way to the Lord; This is a big deal, and it runs a bit deeper than it might seem when we initially read those words.

On the surface, it appears to be saying that we need to dedicate everything about our lives to God, putting Him first in everything.

And while this is 100% true, there is more to it than that.

In order to understand this in its fullness, we need to know that the word, commit, literally means “to roll it over on”.

This means that when it comes to “our way”, the manner in which we conduct our lives and walk with Him, we “roll it over” onto Him.

We trust Him with it 100%, knowing that He is faithful to pick it up and walk with us through all that we do, all that we face, leading and guiding us every step of the way.

What an incredible picture of trust we see in this!

Now, what does the next line say?

Trust also in Him.

So, as we can see, trust is being established as the foundation for all of this. Without trust, nothing will happen.

It’s the strengthening of our relationship with God that helps build that trust. So be sure to set aside time each day to dig into His word and learn of Him.

And what does the last part say will happen if we trust in Him?

He shall bring it to pass.

What shall He bring to pass?

Two things; the desires of our heart will be given to us. And He will bring to pass the committing of our ways to Him, resulting in a rock-solid relationship that the devil and the world won’t be able to touch.

Trust in Him. Do good. Dwell in the land. Feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself in Him. Commit your ways to Him.

He will give you the desires of your heart. Amen.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this teaching series.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-4-21

Psalm 37:4 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Yesterday we discussed Psalm 37, verse 3. Today, let’s take a look at verse 4 and see what we can glean from it.

This is actually the verse I had planned on writing about when I sat down to write today. But when I saw the sum of these verses together, I thought it would be better to talk about all of them and break them down.

So, here in verse 4 we have a truth that we need to look at very carefully because it’s a message that we often hear, but only in part. Let me explain.

We frequently hear about God giving us the desires of our hearts, but we seldom hear it in its proper context and in its fullness, as intended by the writer of this Psalm.

Let’s face it. Having God give us the desires of our hearts sounds pretty enticing, doesn’t it? Who wouldn’t want that?

Well then, let’s look at what that really means in the context that it was actually written in.

The key to this is the qualifier in the first half of that verse; Delight yourself in the Lord.

You see, first of all, we need to make sure we’re delighting ourselves in the Lord, not in the world or in selfish desires.

We need to be putting Him first in all we do, with no self-serving motives or selfish ambitions. That’s the key right there.

As we grow in our walk with Him, we will begin to understand what He wants for our lives. Our desires will begin to change. We will begin to desire things that align with His will.

Truth and righteousness will become more prevalent in our lives. Worldly pleasures and desires will begin to fade into the background. His desires will become our desires.

It’s then that He will begin to give us the desires of our heart, because those desires are in line with the kingdom of God and His truth.

Do we want God to give us the desires of our heart? Then all we need to do is make His desires ours, and watch Him keep His promises, as He gives us those desires.

Join us again tomorrow as we wrap this up with verse 5.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-3-21

Psalm 37:3-5 (NKJV) 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

These 3 short verses offer us an abundance of counsel and insight if we look at them closely enough.

Together, they give us a picture of a solid relationship with God, based on trust and godly desires. If we stick to these principles, we can never go wrong.

Let’s walk through each of them over the next few days so we can paint a picture of what they look like in our lives.

Verse 3.

Trust in the Lord; This one is pretty self-explanatory.

But learning to trust Him isn’t always as easy as we’d like to think. It takes time and effort to build a relationship with Him that results in greater levels of trust. Once we’ve built that relationship, the trusting part gets easier and easier.

Do Good; live righteously. Make wise, godly choices. Use God’s word as a guide to show us what He desires for us when it comes to the way we live our lives. Allow the Holy Spirit to order our steps each day, even minute by minute.

Dwell in the land; This one isn’t necessarily literally referring to dwelling in a physical land that God has chosen for us. But, instead, look at it symbolically and spiritually. God has “placed us” in His land by way of the blood of Christ. His land is a land of truth, trust and righteousness, where we look to Him for everything we need, knowing that He is faithful to supply those needs for us as we walk with Him daily.

Feed on His faithfulness; This goes hand in hand with the previous one, dwelling in the land. As we dwell in His land, we will be satisfied with His provision, as he leads us, cares for us and nurtures us.

Join us again tomorrow as we walk through verse 4!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-2-21

John 1:18 (NKJV) 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

No one has seen God.

This is a pretty black and white statement made by John.

And yet, in spite of no one ever seeing God, we have faith in Him.

We trust Him to forgive us, sustain us and save us.

Why?

Because He is evident in everything.

We see tangible evidence of Him in the world around us.

We feel the wind. We smell the salt air at the ocean shore. We hear the birds. We see the clouds and feel the rain on our faces. We feel the beating of our heart. We watch our chests rise and fall as we breathe in and out.

More importantly, we understand the feeling of freedom we experience after having our sins forgiven.

We know what it means to have our poor choices (sins) of the past cleansed and removed from us.

We understand what it means to be a Child of the most-high God through the blood of Jesus Christ.

We don’t need to see God. He makes Himself known to us in so many different ways.

And the mystery of God, and who He is, holds a certain level of awe and intrigue for many people.

Personally, I love God despite never seeing Him. I believe that not seeing Him is part of how He works and moves.

He requires that we have faith to follow Him.

In fact, we need to have faith to please Him.

Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV) 6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Follow God. Pursue Him. Love Him. But don’t ever worry about not seeing Him face to face.

He is who He is. And who He is is more than sufficient.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-1-21

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

It was last week sometime and I was sitting out on my deck, reading and contemplating on God’s word. As I was doing that, I heard the words, “are you happy?”.

I thought to myself, what kind of question is that? Am I happy?

I thought, yes I’m very happy!

I love my work. I love the place where we live. I love my family.

I love my relationship with God, His Son and the Holy Spirit working through me.

I love, I love, I love!

Yes, I’m happy. I am very blessed!

Well, after this I didn’t hear any other words. It was just a question, and nothing else followed. It bothered me to some degree because I didn’t know why I heard it.

Then it hit me; I don’t act like I’m happy. I don’t sing like I used to. I don’t smile as much as I used to. I don’t even talk as much as I used to.

Why? What happened?

It’s what happens to us all if we are not careful. We get busy, we get tired, we get quiet, we get comfortable and everything becomes a routine.

Just  a little reminder today.

Let us not forget to rejoice in God and take the time to sit and thank Him for all the good things in our life. To continue to pray without ceasing, even when life is going great and things are moving forward.

It’s so very important to remember to laugh and smile, to talk and share of the good things God has done. And to put on some good music and dance to it unto the Lord.

Don’t forget to spread the joy and happiness God has provided for each one of us when we feel led to do so.

Psalm 150:4 (NKJV) 4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
