Bible Verse of The Day – 12-9-20

Isaiah 55:11 (NKJV) 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

As I was sitting here this evening, doing some research that was completely unrelated to Biblical matters, God dropped this verse into my spirit.

I hadn’t thought about this particular scripture in quite a while, so I figured I’d take a look and see what I could find.

As I studied it and meditated on it, here are a few things that stood out to me.

First, it is God’s word. It is not man’s word. It is not man’s idea. It is God’s word. Let that sink in. God’s word.

His word is life. It is what created everything we see. His word is more powerful than we can possibly comprehend.

And look what He says next. It comes from His mouth.

It isn’t an idea or a concept. It doesn’t come from anywhere else other than His mouth.

What hit me next was that it will not return to Him void.

OK. But what does that mean? Let’s take a look.

In its simplest form, it means that it will not be fruitless. So, His word always produces fruit. It will never be useless. It will always be effective. It always produces results.

What does He say next? He says that His word will accomplish what He pleases.

His word has purpose. He speaks for a reason. And the purpose for which He speaks will come to pass. It will be fulfilled.

And look at how He wraps this up. It shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

His words are not spoken randomly or without cause. When He speaks them, they are not like a machine gun just spraying bullets everywhere.

They are precise! They are targeted and spoken with purpose.

And they prosper in the purpose for which they were sent.

There is life in this. There is hope in this.

Let His word bring you hope!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-8-20

Romans 15:13 (NKJV) 13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Oh, how precious is our God… Hallelujah!!

How do we get through each day? By having His joy. By walking in His Peace and abounding in His hope.

How do we do that? By the power of the Holy Spirit.

We can’t fabricate or conjure up His joy. It’s God-given, Spirit-led; not fleshly hype.

Did our Sunday service get us hyped up and excited?

Hype does not keep the flame burning. Hype dies when the source of that hype goes away.

Monday morning is when we need joy, peace and hope at its best.

But if we’re relying on that same hype to get us through a tough day or a trying week, we’re going to be in sad shape by Friday afternoon.

Does this happen to us? Come Monday we don’t feel the same?

By Wednesday we’re feeling miserable? By the time Friday rolls around, we’re drained and ready to crash and burn?

Maybe it’s time to leave the hype behind and let God teach us how to walk with Him each and every day in a way that’s meaningful, not based on hype or emotion.

God wants us to get off the rollercoaster of emotion and hype, and let Him teach us what it means to walk in the Spirit.

It’s in the Spirit that we find stability. It’s in the Spirit that we walk in His joy, peace and hope.

It’s in the Spirit that we find liberty, and freedom from the fickleness of our emotions.

And it’s in the Spirit where we find the peace of God that will see us through those times when emotions leave us high and dry.

Colossians 3:15 (NKJV) 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-7-20

2 Corinthians 3:17 (NKJV) 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

As I was sitting at my desk working on a bunch of devotionals that pastor Ellie and I had written recently, this particular scripture popped into my head. So, I figured I’d take a look at it and do some more writing.

I want to look at two things today; a cause and the effect of that cause.

Now, let’s clarify that a cause is really an action or a circumstance. The effect will be the result of that action or that circumstance.

First, the cause.

The very first part of this scripture establishes one thing; that the Lord is the Spirit.

Now that this is established, we can move on to the actual cause.

The cause (action or circumstance) is this; the presence of the Spirit of the Lord.

So, what is the effect of the presence of the Spirit of the Lord?

There is liberty!

Liberty is a big word when it comes to what it can mean.

Freedom, emancipation from bondage, divine privilege.

You see, God is a God who sets us free. He doesn’t just “save us”. He wants to give us true freedom. Freedom from sin, freedom from anxiety, freedom from hopelessness, freedom from depression, freedom from oppression, and freedom from so many other things that would try to keep us tied down and bound.

It isn’t as complicated as so many might make it seem.

The presence of God’s Spirit equals liberty (freedom). Where the Spirit of God is, there can be no sin, no bondage, no depression, no anxiety, etc.

Where these things do exist, we need to invite and allow the Spirit of God to be present and to dwell in all of His fullness.

Then, and only then, will we see true freedom.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-5-20

Matthew 11:30 (NKJV) 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

We need to be loyal to God in walking out what He puts in us to walk out. We can’t take for granted what He has gifted us to do. It is incredibly important to let Him train us and guide us in doing it the way He wants us to do it.

So many times, people will jump out on their own to do something for God. They end up tired, hurt, abused and broke, because there is no protection in doing what we think He wants us to do.

Wait. He will let us know for sure what it is He has for us. There is no jumping out ahead of Him and getting it right. It doesn’t work that way.

Are we tired today?

Do we feel like we still need to keep on doing what we’re doing, but we are getting no results from all our hard work and effort?

Have we lost our joy and  find ourselves feeling fatigued?

We may be on the verge of burnout and our health is decreasing, trying to keep up with everything around us.

Stop. Listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, our Helper.  Remember, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Rest in knowing that if things aren’t going easy for us and it’s too heavy to carry out, it may be time to pull back and take a good look at what we THINK we need to be doing and make sure it is what God has put in our hands. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-4-20

James 5:1-3 (NKJV) 1 Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries that are coming upon you! 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and silver are corroded, and their corrosion will be a witness against you and will eat your flesh like fire. You have heaped up treasure in the last days.

How fitting this is for the times we are living in.

The world we live in is being controlled more and more by those with great wealth and power, as they seek to obtain even more, using it to manipulate and control those with less.

The illusion of power that they live under is a great deceit, for the power they think they have is really just corruption of their souls in disguise.

James lays it all out here, as he does so well, making it very clear that their wealth is powerless to really do anything for them.

You see, the problem here isn’t wealth. On the contrary. It’s the fact that they worship and idolize their wealth, holding it up as their god.

How soon they will see where their greed and hunger for power gets them, as it devours and destroys them. James says it will eat their flesh like fire.

Be watchful. Be sharp and discerning. Be alert and vigilant!

God is exposing the corruption and the deceit. He is shining a bright light onto the darkness that is before us, laying it bare for the world to see.

Behold His mighty hand as He sweeps it across the earth and shows us His might!

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-3-20

Colossians 3:15 (NKJV) 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

What should be ruling in our hearts?

Anger? No. Jealousy/envy? No. Greed? No. Fear? No.

What then? His Peace!

If His peace doesn’t rule, then we are off.

We need the Peace of God ruling in our hearts.

How hard is it to get His peace to rule? It’s not hard if we really want it.

God will help us as we listen to Him and get rid of the chaos, the noise.

All the hustle and bustle need to go.

Chaos should not be near a child of God. We should be sound and peaceful, even in the middle of a storm or in the midst of a battle.

God’s peace will surpass all understanding. He guards our heart and mind from getting out of control and He causes us to move accordingly.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

If we want His peace to rule today, let go of the things that are causing chaos. Listen to and follow His lead.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-2-20

2 Chronicles 31:20-21 (NKJV) 20 Thus Hezekiah did throughout all Judah, and he did what was good and right and true before the Lord his God. 21 And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, in the law and in the commandment, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart. So he prospered.

I have recently been reading and studying about king Hezekiah, whom I referenced in another devotional a couple days ago.

King Hezekiah was an incredible king and leader. He put God first in everything and he led Judah to do the same.

He did many things during his reign that caused me to believe that he was one of the better kings during those days.

He took care of the people of Judah in many ways. And He also walked uprightly before God.

To paraphrase, the scripture above says that in every work he did for God and in seeking his God, he did it with all his heart.

And those verses ended with this declaration: So he prospered.

King Hezekiah didn’t necessarily set out to prosper. He set out to serve and seek God with all his heart. Prospering came to him as a result (an effect) of His steadfastness in him seeking God.

He put God first. He sincerely desired to learn of Him and please Him. And because he did this, God blessed him with prosperity.

The thing to focus on here isn’t the prosperity, though. Even though prosperity is desired by many (most) people, we need to be careful not to lose sight of the reality of what we’re seeing here; he pursued God relentlessly, with all his heart.

And God blessed (rewarded) him.

The strength of our walk with God comes down to our heart, our motives.

If we seek prosperity, we may find it, but at what cost?

If we seek God, though, and disregard the rewards or the blessings, we will find Him. That in itself is reward enough.

We just might, if our heart is right, and God sees fit, find blessings and rewards. But we should never, ever seek them as part of our walk with Him.

Seek Him with all your heart. You will find Him.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NKJV) 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 12-1-20

Psalm 119:18 (NKJV) 18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.

Being blind is no way to walk this earth. We need to walk with our eyes wide open. We need to understand that obedience, or following God’s word, is the most crucial thing we can do and get good at!

It is the only way we will see wondrous things.

People may think they are living a good life, when in fact they have not even touched the surface yet because they have not let God open their eyes.

How does He open our eyes? When we realize that He really cares and loves us more than we could know, then our eyes are opened. That is the beginning of our eye-opening journey.

Why? Because then we will trust Him with everything more than we trust ourselves.

I know that some things that happen in our lives may cause us to question God. Maybe some reading this are in this state right now.

Maybe your child has changed in a big way and they are acting out. And we say, “why, God?”.

Maybe we have lost someone we loved deeply and we are saying, “why, God?”.

Maybe our finances dried up, despite having been tithers for years, and we are saying, “why, God?”.

This is normal, and it is OK to ask Him why. I believe He would have it that way. He does not have a problem with explaining why things are the way they are.

But, are we willing and ready to accept the answer without holding what took place against Him? Are we ready to get our eyes opened?

Some aren’t. Some would rather stay angry, mopey and discouraged. That’s our own choice.

But don’t pull anyone else down. Stay there if we feel we must, but let others move on, because some are ready to move on.

It’s been a long while and the time is now.

God does wondrous things when we allow Him to open our eyes and see things the right way.

He has a way of fixing us up even when we think we are a lost cause and can’t go on. God knows what it will take. Let Him open our eyes today.

Amen.
