Bible Verse of The Day – 11-19-20

Job 37:5-6 (NKJV) 5 God thunders marvelously with His voice; He does great things which we cannot comprehend. 6 For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’; Likewise, to the gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.

How marvelous is His voice!

We can often not even comprehend the things He does. Our minds don’t go there…we are minute in our ways and our thinking when compared to our mighty and very powerful God.

That is why it is so important that we go to Him for everything. He will fight for us. He will show us what to do. He will help us hold our peace.

Exodus 14:14 (NKJV) 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”

Many times, what He has to say or show us is way beyond our understanding and conventional human wisdom. But if we trust Him, it will be a marvelous turnout. And we will learn of the difference between following Him or doing it the way we are used to doing it.

Is God teaching us a new way? Are we listening, or are we too comfortable in doing it the same as usual, to the point where we are ignoring such a wonderful and marvelous way because we cannot comprehend it or figure it out?

When God speaks regarding our situation, we need to forget about comfort, and move toward what He is saying.

There is not always a comfortable place with God.

We are almost always on the move in one way or another. And things are exciting, different and changing. It can be very hard sometimes to make these moves, but they will be fulfilling and worth it if we follow through!

Who is ready to hear what God has to say? He will thunder with His marvelous voice.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-18-20

Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) 17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.

It’s no secret that the devil is our #1 enemy.

He is bent on destroying each and every one of us, if he can possibly do so.

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Take note of what that scripture said, though. There are clues as to how to prevent the devil from destroying (devouring) us.

Be sober; well-balanced, self-controlled, self-disciplined.

Our actions and our words need to be calculated and chosen carefully, with great consideration, filtered through and weighed by the Holy Spirit, not based on emotions or rash, impulsive thoughts.

Be vigilant; watchful, discerning, cautious, alert, observant, attentive, prepared.

We cannot become complacent or dull. We absolutely need to stay alert at all times against the wiles (devious schemes and tricks) of the enemy.

This is the only way we can stand against his attacks and come through them victoriously and intact. But God doesn’t leave us trying to figure this out on our own. He tells us plainly how to defend ourselves.

Ephesians 6:11 (NKJV) 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

We learn how to put on His armor as we spend time in His word, getting understanding of who He is, who our enemy is and how to walk with God while repelling our adversary.

It’s all there for us. We just have to be willing to spend the time and make the effort to seek it out!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-17-20

Judges 8:24 (NKJV) 24 Then Gideon said to them, “I would like to make a request of you, that each of you would give me the earrings from his plunder.” For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.

Gideon was used by God to tear down the altar of baal. But along the road he lost sight of his purpose and made the wrong request; he asked for the golden earrings from the plunder the men had taken.

This was the very thing that would pull him down and cause him to fall. The very thing that would make him stop winning and lose all that God would have had for him.

Gideon knew better. But he did it anyway. He requested them and then made them into an ephod (a type of decorated priestly garment), and it became a snare to him and those around him.

Judges 8:27 (NKJV) 27 Then Gideon made it into an ephod and set it up in his city, Ophrah. And all Israel played the harlot with it there. It became a snare to Gideon and to his house.

Are we dabbling in things that will destroy our relationship with God? Are we desiring or lusting after things that look and feel good, but are not good for us?

We have to know what will cause us to fall. And once we recognize those things, we need to beware of them trying to come back into our lives.

Do not forget the things or the relationships that God says to stay away from. Some things, no matter how good they look, are nothing more than a trap and will cause us to fall.

They will cause us to lose everything that God has for us.

What is most important to God is to see us take to heart the things that He says are good for us.

Material things can destroy us if we don’t keep them in their proper place. If we can’t say no to some things, we’d better take a good hard look as to why.

Most times it is something we need to address within ourselves. It is something that has a hold on us and will likely become a snare to us at some point.

Only God should hold that place in our hearts.

Bible Verse of The Day- 11-16-20

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Trusting God entails a lot of things.

First, it means that we not spend our time worrying and fretting about things that we might not understand.

Second, it means that we may encounter things that we may not understand in the natural, but that we rely on His Spirit to give us discernment and understanding in.

It also means that we watch and listen for His leading and direction in all things.

Nowhere, though, does it ever say or imply that we just trust Him, sit back and do nothing 100% of the time, expecting Him to do everything for us.

This is absolutely not true!

Trusting Him with all our heart means that we get His input and His understanding and then we let Him direct our paths.

That means that we have to do something!

You see, there will be times (most times) when we have to get up and walk out whatever it is that He shows us to do (directs our paths).

We have to take action! We have to walk out our faith in Him by doing whatever it is that He tells us to do.

So, it’s time, fellow warriors in Christ, to rise up!

Yes, we need to pray! Yes, we need to be sure to acknowledge Him in all our ways (everything we do)!

But we also need to let Him direct our paths and take action!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-14-20

Luke 4:18 (NKJV) 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;

Today we’d like to speak to those who are hurting; those with a broken heart.

Maybe your heart is broken because of something that has happened in your life. Maybe it’s because you have lost someone, or are about to lose someone who is very close to you.

It’s important for us to understand that hurt comes with life. It’s part of the life that each of us lives, and probably one of the most difficult parts of it.

It can be heartbreaking to lose someone, both for the person who suffers the loss, and for the people around that person.

Losing someone can knock the wind out of us. It can make us feel like there is nothing stable under our feet, making it difficult to find solid footing.

There are no “magic words” that anyone can say that can take away the hurt and suddenly make everything better.

But in the midst of your pain, and in the midst of you trying to find a place to get your feet on solid ground again, even when you feel like you can’t go on, you can.

We can go on.

Why?

Because God is a healer of broken hearts. Nobody can heal a broken heart like He can.

Psalm 147:3 (NKJV) 3 He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

Most of us wrestle with questions after a loss. We ask why, how, why now, what could I have done differently, etc. These are questions that we may not get the answers to.

And some questions in life can never be answered. But that should never stop us from letting God heal our heart. And it should never stop us from letting God get us back on track and moving forward again with our lives.

You see, the world keeps turning. It’s just a fact of life.

The sun rises and the sun sets. New days come. Each morning that we wake up is a new day.

So, we need to be careful that we don’t stop our life while the rest of the world keeps moving. We need to be careful not to get left behind.

We need to do whatever it takes to get moving forward again, even though it can be an extremely hard thing.

Our hearts hurt for you in your loss and your difficulties with getting past the pain and moving forward again.

We recorded a video on this topic very recently, and we’d really like you to watch it, so we can speak to you further and help you get the healing that you need.

We want to see you move forward with your life again. We want to see you healed and made whole by God’s hand and His power to fix broken hearts.

So, we hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch the video and let God speak to your heart.

We love you, and we hope this devotional and the video help bring healing to your broken heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-13-20

Joshua 7:20-21 (NKJV) 20 And Achan answered Joshua and said, “Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I have done: 21 When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it.”

Yesterday, we left off after establishing that “accursed things” are things that God has told us not to touch.

This is huge when it comes to God’s blessings being in our homes, our relationships, our work place and our church family.

What have we allowed in?

It’s usually something that God has told us very clearly not to get involved with; Not to take it, or line up with it.

Sometimes it’s not even us that’s at fault. Maybe it’s someone else that is in our family or our “camp”.

The “accursed thing” is usually something that is very much desired or loved. And it has brought much pain.

It has caused much sorrow, and not just for the one person that desired it, but for the whole kit n caboodle; the whole family, the whole church, the whole lot of employees, etc.

It has affected our siblings and our loved ones. And it affects us deeply when it comes to hearing from God.

His blessings have stopped, and we are sitting here saying, “why, God, why?”.

Just as God told Joshua, we are saying to you, “get up! Sanctify your place and move forward”.

Some may say, “well, I haven’t been able to make any changes. God’s not hearing me. He has left me. All I see is hardship and sickness, death all around me and others related to me”.

What accursed thing have we desired more than obeying God? We need to figure that out because that is the very thing that is hurting us.

That is the thing that has caused us a failed marriage, health issues, lost jobs, abusive relationships, financial problems, struggles with addictive behavior, etc.

If we don’t know, we need to find out.

It’s time to get serious and sanctify ourselves, our home, our relationships, and our children.

It’s time to boot that accursed thing out the door and get back on track with God. Because if we don’t, then we’ve failed Him.

Boot it out! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-12-20

Joshua 7:13 (NKJV) 13 Get up, sanctify the people, and say, ‘Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel: “There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you.”

We want to talk today about accursed things.

In this particular verse, God was speaking to Joshua about a man named Achan.

Achan had a coveting issue (Joshua 7:21). He had taken some things from a battle they were in. He then hid them under his tent.

They consisted of a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing 50 shekels.

God had warned them not to take anything. By doing what he did, his sin and disobedience affected the whole of the children of Israel.

That’s right. It opened the door for defeat and destruction on them all.

They had to get rid of him, his family and all his goods in order to fix things.

Accursed things are things that God says, “don’t touch”.

What accursed things do we have today in our home or in our walk that have brought doom on us and have even affected others around us?

This is a big deal and it has become a major problem in the lives of many, many believers.

So, let’s take a closer look at this tomorrow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-11-20

Psalm 145:5 (NKJV) 5 I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, And on Your wondrous works.

Today it snowed here in Rhode Island, where we live.

It’s not common for that to happen quite this early in the year, but it does happen occasionally.

As we do so often, Pastor Ellie and I took a break from our work, drove to the shore and sat for a few minutes looking out over the ocean as the snow fell. The water was incredibly beautiful today, even with the lack of sunshine.

The cold temperature of the air colliding with the warmer surface temperature of the ocean’s surface created a low-hanging fog that was incredible to see. And on the horizon, shrouded in the fog and snow, was a freighter making its way across the water.

Something about it was eerie, yet fascinating and breathtaking at the same time because I saw God’s power in it.

And as I sat and took in this incredible beauty, one word came to mind; majesty.

God’s majesty was on full display right before our eyes. All we had to do was look, and it was plain to see.

We serve an incredible God. There is none like Him on the earth or in the heavens above.

Because I am a fisherman, as well as a fisher of men, I spend a lot of time in the outdoors, on many of the local lakes and rivers.

During my time on the water, I get to see God’s majesty on display in sunrises, sunsets, wildlife, incredible displays of stars, the moon, meteors, comets and much more. And all of this only strengthens my faith and increases my “level of awe” of Him.

So, I’d like to encourage you all to take a few minutes every now and then, and look around.

Watch the birds. Stare at the stars at night. Watch a sunset or a sunrise once in a while. Sit by the ocean, a lake or a river and take in the beauty of it all.

Don’t take any of it for granted. It is the handywork of the very One who created us and breathed life into us. And He created it all simply by speaking it into existence.

Oh, and if you’d like to share in what we saw, feel free to do so here: Click here to view the photo.

All I can say is, “wow, what a mighty God we serve”.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-10-20

Judges 2:14 (NKJV) 14 And the anger of the Lord was hot against Israel. So He delivered them into the hands of plunderers who despoiled them; and He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.

What a time that must have been for Israel.

Here they were winning battles and taking the land that God had promised their fathers. Then they got stupid and started disobeying, doing the very thing He told them not to do.

This can even happen to us today. Everything is going great and then carelessness slowly sets in.

Carelessness is dangerous. It leads to sin.

God’s word is clear on telling us not to mess with certain things/people; to not even allow them in our presence. But we think we can handle it and we don’t listen. The next minute we know, we are involved in the wrong stuff.

1 Corinthians 15:33 (NKJV) 33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”

When God tells us not to mix in, He has a good reason for that. And we must obey His voice.

His words are good for us, whether they are in the Old Testament or the New Testament.

He brought correction to Israel. And He will bring correction to us.

But it isn’t like He does it because He is a mean God. He does it because He loves us.

Hebrews 12:6 (NKJV) 6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.”

We can’t enable those we love. We correct them and we stand firm in the truth, with love.

If we’re in trouble today, come to Him. Sorry is probably the best word in our vocabulary that we can learn when it comes to our walk with God. Because repentance is for us all, and God will help us if we truly mean it.

He will correct us, but He will save us from our enemies and our shortcomings if our hearts soften and change.

Judges 2:16 (NKJV) 16 Nevertheless, the Lord raised up judges who delivered them out of the hand of those who plundered them.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-9-20

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?

It’s not uncommon for people to ask God to change them, make them a different person, with less faults and shortcomings.

This is usually a sincere request on their part. They want to live differently, in a way that’s more pleasing to Him.

There is a flaw in this, though, that is usually overlooked. And this flaw causes people to ask God over and over again to change them because they see themselves continuing to do those same things and being disappointed with themselves.

It can be fixed, though, And here’s how.

We need to stop asking God to change us, and ask Him to change our heart.

You see, the heart of a person is where things emanate from. It’s the source of our thoughts which lead to our actions.

So, if we’re asking God to change us, but our heart stays the same, we will be stuck in an endless loop, like a hamster on a wheel; doing a lot of work, but going nowhere.

Let’s dig a bit deeper and see what is meant by this verse.

The word “deceitful” is the foundation of this one.

Deceitful: guilty of deceiving or misleading others. Dishonest, untruthful, lying, perverse, untrustworthy.

Not very pretty, is it?

Now, not only are we told that it is deceitful, but that it is more deceitful than anything else (above all things). That’s about as bad as it can get.

The next phrase used to describe our heart is this one; desperately wicked.

The original Hebrew for this means “incurably sick”.

Various translations use the following phrases; exceedingly perverse and corrupt. Severely, mortally sick. Extremely sick. Beyond cure.

This makes it pretty easy to see why our heart needs to be changed if we want our person to change.

This sounds pretty dismal, doesn’t it?

But here’s the deal. God, the Creator of all we see, and the One who breathed life into us, offers us hope!

How?

You see, David got this. He understood it.

He saw his own depravity after committing a terrible sin (several of them, actually). And he knew that the only way he could change was to ask God to change his heart.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV) 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

So, David spoke these words and then endeavored to walk uprightly from that day, forward, keeping God above all else.

And if we look back at history, we see that God held David up higher than all other kings for that very reason; he never worshiped other gods, and was a man after God’s own heart, unlike just about every other king after him.

So, if we are longing for change, and we’re tired of asking God to change us, maybe it’s time that we do it right!

Ask Him to change our heart. And then give Him permission to do it, setting Him free to lead and guide us through the process.

Then we will see our lives change, a little at a time as we follow His leading.
