Bible Verse of The Day – 1-31-20

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

It is impossible for God to work effectively through someone who is proud or haughty.

Yes, God can use them to a certain degree. But He cannot use them fully, since they have not completely submitted themselves to Him.

In some cases, if someone doesn’t voluntarily humble themselves under God, they will eventually find themselves in circumstances and situations where they involuntarily become humbled by those circumstances.

As we allow God to teach us how to be humble, we will find that He is able to use us more and more. And the things that He does through us will be more and more effective for His kingdom.

Is this because we become smarter or more intelligent? No, not really. We do gain Godly wisdom as we allow God to lead us.

But it’s mostly because, as we humble ourselves, we hear Him more easily and are more apt to obey His leading and His promptings. And this allows us to act based on accurate information that He gives us directly through the Holy Spirit.

If we were to remain proud and haughty, He wouldn’t be able to teach us nearly as much as when we are humble, because pride can cause us to think we know more than we really do. And that same pride will cause us to reject any kind of help that God or man might offer us.

Remember, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble!

James 4:6 (NKJV) 6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-30-20

Psalm 33:1 (NKJV) 1 Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful.

God loves our praises to Him. And if we are His children, we are the upright. We are the righteous, made through His Son, Jesus Christ.

God gave us the gift of salvation. It is a free gift. But in order for us to receive it, it takes us believing in His Son.

We don’t just simply believe that He is the Son of God. But that He came to save us  from our sins.

He did this by means of the cross. He died for you and me. The only One that could do this was Jesus Christ. Why?

Because His blood was the perfect sacrifice for our sins. And we needed a perfect sacrifice, for our sin was great. We could, in no way, shape or form, attempt to be in God’s presence.

Jesus Christ is not just the Son of God. He is God in the flesh, and He is our Savior! He came to die for our sins and make things right for us.

If we believe this and we receive Him for Who He is, then we are made righteous through Him.

We can go to God in prayer and speak to Him through His Son’s name, Jesus Christ. No other man has to be a mediator for us. Jesus is our mediator.

John 14:6 (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

If we believe this today, ask God for forgiveness from our sins, and receive Jesus today as our Savior.

Walk out the life He has for us, and enjoy His presence each day. He will set us free from the heaviness of sin and teach us how to walk in righteousness!

John 8:36 (NKJV) 36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Praise be to God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-29-20

Luke 9:23 (NKJV) 23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.

Take a good look at that verse.

Now, after doing that, consider how much it says about life revolving around us. Not much, right?

In fact, the only thing it says about us is that we should deny ourselves. How does that stack up against so much of what we hear being taught today, even in churches?

It’s not pretty, is it? In fact, it’s very sad.

You see, God is not a mean God. He is not a killjoy, looking to rob us of enjoyment.

But He does want us to serve Him with our whole heart, not just a little piece of it. This means setting ourselves aside sometimes, even when it might not be convenient.

This means making sacrifices at times that might be costly in terms of pushing “self” aside and putting God first.

How does that compare to what we hear being taught today? There’s a pretty stark contrast, isn’t there?

This is why it’s important that we know God’s word and that we be careful to listen for His spirit. He is faithful to show us what’s right and what’s wrong regarding doctrines and similar things, especially when they are being promoted by Christians and churches.

Be careful. Not everything that has a Christian label attached is true to God’s word.

We live in a world that is being overrun with wolves in sheep’s clothing.

Matthew 7:15 (NKJV) 15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-28-20

Luke 12:15 (NKJV) 15 And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.”

A covetous life is awful.

If we are covetous, we are always going to feel unsatisfied. We are always going to be wanting and needing something else. We will never be happy.

We will always be watching for people with something better than what we have, and then we will be depressed and miserable until we get it. And sometimes we don’t ever get it.

Jesus says, “beware”.

We don’t need what they have. God will give us what we need and what is good for us.

If we truly trust Him, we will not be worrying about such things. Instead, we will spend our time being thankful for what we have and sharing some of it with others.

We don’t need a lot here. Earth is not our home. This is our work field. We are stationed here for a short time and then we go home. That is where we lay up our treasures, in Heaven, our eternal home.

Matthew 6:19-20 (NKJV) 19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.

Life is not in the abundance of our possessions; but in loving one another, in giving, and in helping each other.

Stop looking at what others have and look at what God has blessed us with. He will take care of our every need, and we will be satisfied right to the core. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-27-20

2 John 1:10 (NKJV) 10 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine, do not receive him into your house nor greet him;

Have you ever had someone ring your doorbell or knock on your door, bringing you “another gospel”?

Most of us have probably had this happen at some point in time.

Over the years, I have handled this in various ways, ranging from completely ignoring them, to answering my door and spending time talking with them.

Many times I have answered the door simply because I didn’t want to be rude or discourteous.

I did this once fairly recently and it turned out that the people on the other side of the door ended up being rude and discourteous to me.

As I was studying during a recent evening, I came upon this section of 1 John that made it abundantly clear as to how to handle this in the future. The first verse I read was this one:

2 John 7 (NKJV) 7 For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.

And then I read the one at the top of this devotional, 2 John 1:10, which spoke to me very, very clearly.

I had read all of this many times before, but this time it really hit me.

If we receive them to our home, and we let them share “their gospel” with us, we are, as God’s word says, partaking in their evil deeds.

2 John 11 (NKJV) 11 for he who greets him shares in his evil deeds.

That might seem very strong, or even harsh. But consider what God’s word tells us here:

Galatians 1:8 (NKJV) 8 But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

So, it would do us good to heed this instruction from God’s word and weigh it very carefully the next time another gospel comes knocking on our door.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-25-20

Hebrews 12:8 (NKJV) 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.

The hardest part about facing a trial is to make sure we don’t try to get out of it too quickly.

That might sound odd, but most times there is something in that trial for us to learn. There is something for us to see, and there is something for us to hear.

We need to let what we learn become embedded in our hearts so we don’t ever forget it.

Imagine going through a trial and we just say, “take your time Lord. We want to learn whatever it is that we need to learn so we don’t have to visit this place again”.

We are God’s children, sons and daughters of the most High! He is a good Papa and good Papas will train up their children to be strong, to not faint, and to rise above any given situation that we may face.

If you’re facing a trial, wait on God. He will show up. He will show us if there is something in it we may need to see and something that we need to do.

Be watching, listening, and seeking Him. He is going to teach us how to walk out of hard places and hard times.

Remember, if we are His sons and daughters, there is always a time to learn and a time to apply what we learn. It is the way He does it.

Keep learning and growing closer to Him, and enjoy the journey from either side. We shall walk and not faint, we shall mount up with wings like eagles as we receive His correction and the strength to walk it out.

Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

Don’t give up when it gets hard. Wait on His strength. It will come and bring us through! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-24-20

1 John 3:22 (NKJV) 22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.

We all ask God for things.

Sometimes we ask Him for wisdom. Sometimes we ask for help with a specific situation. Sometimes we ask Him for finances to pay for something we need.

The thing is that we don’t always get what we ask for. Why is that?

This short verse above tells us exactly why!

“We receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight”.

Our walk with God is all about relationship. It is a Father/son or Father/daughter relationship.

It is not a King on a throne looking down at us, dictating to us what we should do to be good subjects.

It is a Father in heaven, loving us and wanting us to love Him back. As with any relationship, we want to please the one we love.

With God, He wants us to do the things that are pleasing in His sight. His word tells us what those things are; put Him first in everything, love others, do to others what we want done to us, live righteously, etc.

Now, this isn’t a dictatorship. God doesn’t watch our every move, waiting for us to fail so He can hold it over us or punish us when we do.

He simply wants us to love Him so much that we want to do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

It’s then that we will begin to see the verse above played out in our lives. And we will begin to see the things we ask Him for coming to pass. Because our hearts will be one with His, and our requests will be in line with His heart!

1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) 14 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-23-20

Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) 19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

This is a promise. Receive it!

God is good and He will meet our need. A lot of times we just need to be where the answer is. We can’t stop doing what we know to do just because we don’t feel like doing it, or because we are tired of the battle.

Keep going. You never know where your answer is going to come from.

I remember one morning before church we had run out of peanut butter, and that’s what we would put on our English muffin.

It was not a real big deal; things could have been worse. But it stood out hugely that morning because we were growing weary and tired from everything else that had been hitting us. This was just one more thing.

We all got ready and went to church. Not long after we got there, a lady came up to us and said, “I know this is odd, but I felt like I needed to bring you a jar of peanut butter”.

We all laughed as she handed it to us. But you know, that jar of peanut butter meant so much to us. Because only God knew. And it showed us that He even cares about the little things that mean something to us.

That’s right, peanut butter! And may I add, it was the right brand!!

We went home that day with a smile, and our hearts were lifted. Can I just say, “God knows”.

What are your needs today? What are you going through?

Don’t miss the opportunity to receive what He has for you. Being in the right place matters greatly in receiving your answer.

Get to that place you need to be, whether in our heart or a physical place, or both. And be busy doing what we need to be doing. God will deliver! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-22-20

2 Corinthians 9:6 (NKJV) 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

God loves when we give.

Not only does He love when we give, but He loves when we give bountifully and with a right attitude (cheerfully), not grudgingly or with a bad attitude.

This takes on new meaning when we begin to look at the Greek text and the various translations that are available.

The word to look at here is “bountifully”.

The Greek word used in the original texts is the same Greek word where the English word “eulogy” is derived from. When we think of a eulogy, we tend to relate that to a funeral. But in reality, it means “blessing”.

When a eulogy is spoken at a funeral, it is a blessing to those who hear it, as well as a verbal blessing over the person who has passed.

So, in reality, what Paul was saying is that if we sow (give) bountifully (to bless others), we will also reap (get) bountifully (a blessing returned to us).

It’s important to remember that we don’t give to get. We give because we want others to be blessed. We give because God has told us to do so.

But God established this principle thousands of years ago; if we give, we get. It’s very simple in its most basic form.

It’s when man tries to twist it or pervert it that it begins to get complicated and out of line with what God intended.

What God is telling us overall is that what we receive will be proportionate with what we give, and the attitude with which we give it.

Let’s give bountifully, as Jesus Himself told us to do!

Luke 6:38 (NKJV) 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-21-20

Luke 1:46-47 (NKJV) 46 And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.

How wonderful is our Lord and Savior, let us rejoice today in His goodness! He is with us, watching over us and providing for all that we need.

Holidays can be very hard for some people. Maybe they’ve lost a loved one, or maybe they lost their job.

Maybe they are going through a family crisis, or change of some sort has hit hard. This can be very depressing, causing us to not even want to celebrate.

So many times we will turn to something to ease that pain in our hearts.

This is for someone reading this today. Don’t turn to anything other than the One that can comfort, heal and take away the pain without causing us any other harm. He will bring stability with our emotions, and peace that surpasses all understanding.

Don’t let this season bring you down, leaving you depressed. Rejoice in God our Savior. He is right there with us.

Dear God in Heaven,

I come to You and ask for Your help. I’m hurting. My sorrow is overwhelming. This pain is real and I need something to help me get through. Please give me Your peace today, I ask in Jesus’ name.

In return, I will trust that You’ve got my back and I don’t need to worry one bit.

Thank YOU, my God, My Lord and Savior! Amen.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
