Bible Verse of The Day – 9-8-19 – Getting Ahead of God

Please click to watch the video now.Greetings brothers and sisters in Christ!

God is a God of promises, and He keeps every single one of them.

We tend to be a people of doubt and impatience, struggling to wait on God’s timing for those promises to come to pass.

This leads to us getting ahead of God, trying to “help Him” make those promises happen.

This is also the topic of today’s video, Getting Ahead of God.

We use some Biblical examples of this which are pretty enlightening, so we hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch it.

We hope you enjoy it and that it speaks to you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-7-19

Romans 14:8 (NKJV) 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

It’s hard to get to a point in our walk where we feel content enough to say we are completely the Lord’s. We may be able to say we are working to get there, but to be completely there is another story.

We may pray, “God, use me”. And then He may want to do something with us or through us, and if we are not comfortable in doing it, we may shy away from it.

It’s not easy doing some of the things that may be asked of us to do. And some of the things may not be comfortable or anything like what we are used to doing.

As a matter of fact, most times it is something we have probably never attempted to do before.

Isn’t it funny that God would ask us to do something we are not familiar with. But He knows that if we don’t know how, we won’t lean on our own understanding, which causes us to reach out and lean on Him.

Some people have stepped out, leaning on God, but as time passed they got comfortable in what they were doing. And now they lean on what they have learned.

We have to always be listening and ready for God. We never know when He may want to add a little flavor to our life, so to speak.

Learn to live for Him so when He says, “change it up”, or “time to move on”, we are ready. Then we won’t ponder on it for too long and talk ourselves out of it.

Genesis 12:1 (NKJV) 1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-6-19

Philippians 2:13 (NKJV) 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

For His good pleasure.

Those four words sum up the reason we exist; for His good pleasure.

We were created by God for His pleasure!

We all have different skills, talents and abilities. We were uniquely created.

We have different personalities, character traits and physical attributes. But we are all here for the same purpose; for His good pleasure.

One of the most frequent questions we get from people is this; “how do I know what God wants me to do with my life?”.

There are a few different ways to look at this. But ultimately, we all need to understand that if we are pleasing God with our lives, we are on the right track.

Now, some might look at this and ask why we should feel obligated to please God. Isn’t that kind of selfish on God’s part?

No! Not at all. God created us. Every last one of us, including those who ignore Him or even deny His existence. So, wanting us to live our lives to give Him pleasure is the very least He could ask.

And as we begin to live lives that please God, bringing Him pleasure, we will be that much closer to what God wants us to do with our lives.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-19

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

When God comes into our hearts it may take time for us to realize that we are going to need to let some things go if we want to go deeper with Him.

Sometimes its people; people that may mean a great deal to us. It doesn’t necessarily mean we can’t see them at all. It may just mean we can’t spend as much time with them.

Many years ago, I was going through a season in my life, and in this season God asked me to pull away from some people I was very close to. I knew it meant change for me, because a great deal of my time was spent with them.

We had a routine, or specific days where we would do things together. It was so hard for me, but I humbly pulled back. And it brought me to tears at times because of their absence. But as time passed, it got easier and I could see why I had to do that.

It helped me to focus on other things and see God in a way I hadn’t known Him otherwise. Sometimes people can obscure our vision.

It’s part of our journey with Him. Our hearts will be at peace, but it doesn’t mean it won’t hurt from the things we need to do away with or let go of at times.

We will have to make choices that we may not fully understand at first. But as we follow and obey, later on we will see the importance of why He had us do certain things in a certain way.

Our journey with Him is learning to trust in Him in a whole new dimension.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-4-19

John 16:33 (NKJV) 33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

We all face things… trials and tough times that put us to the test.

Some trials can be extremely difficult and feel like they last a very long time. Others can be short-lived and easy to get through.

Either way, it takes fortitude and perseverance to get through them.

What’s even better, though, is the promise that Jesus made in the verse above.

Some might look at that verse and ask where the promise is. A promise that we will have tribulation?

No, a promise of peace, due to Jesus already having overcome the world!

You might ask how Jesus overcoming the world helps us. So, let’s talk about that.

Jesus faced every kind of temptation and tribulation possible while He was here on earth, including death. But He overcame every one of them in victory. Yes, He even overcame death.

What Jesus was referring to when He spoke these words is that if we are “in Him”, we already have what we need to also overcome the world.

And He promised us peace.

John 14:27 (NKJV) 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

What we need to understand in this is that Jesus did what he did 100% by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We may tend to look at Jesus and say, “but He was God in the flesh, so He could do anything”. While He may very well have been God in the flesh, it’s “the flesh” that we need to pay attention to.

When Jesus came to earth, He left His God attributes behind so that He could walk here as a human being, seeing, feeling and experiencing everything that we experience.

Everything that He accomplished here was done by the power of the Holy Spirit, whom He had received when John baptized Him. Yes, the very same Holy Spirit that we receive as children of God.

This is why it’s so important for us to draw near to Him and build our relationship as strong as we possibly can, learning to listen for the Holy Spirit every minute of every day, letting Him teach us and lead us.

As we do this, we will begin to understand what Jesus was talking about when He said, “be of good cheer, I have overcome the world“.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-3-19

Acts 2:28 (NKJV) 28 You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of joy in Your presence.’

When we are in God’s presence, we will be full. Full of who He is. Full of His goodness, peace, love and joy!

Who wouldn’t want to be in His presence?

How do we get in His presence? We walk out the things He has made known to us.

We love like Him, we forgive like Him, we trust in Him and we remain in Him. He is GOOD!

When we fail or falter, we try again. We don’t give up, we don’t turn back to the old ways, but continue to walk in the ways that were made known to us. Each time getting stronger and quicker at making good and righteous choices.

What a life! Full of joy in His presence.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-2-19

1 Peter 5:8 (NKJV) 8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

This is an often-quoted verse. The problem is that we have heard it so many times that maybe we have overlooked what it really means. So, let’s take a closer look.

We live in a world that is constantly barraging us with temptations and distractions. Every minute of every day we have to make choices. We have to choose to do right or do wrong.

It’s not usually complicated. We make the choice to do what pleases God, or we choose to do what pleases our flesh.

But just because it isn’t complicated doesn’t mean that it’s not intricate in its origins or its repercussions. And that is why the verse above is so significant.

The temptations and distractions we face come at the hands of our enemy, the devil. They are not just random or by chance.

Many times, we may set ourselves up for them by things that we do. These things that we do can lead us into temptation.

This is why it’s so important for us to be sober (self-controlled, clearheaded, temperate) and vigilant (watchful, observant, alert, attentive, cautious, wary, prepared).

This allows us to avoid the traps of the enemy and escape them unharmed and whole, not getting caught up in the traps set for us.

Sometimes we may take these things lightly, but it’s important for us to understand that they are serious!

As we read on, we see how serious is it. We are told that he is our adversary (enemy, opponent, combatant, opposition). And he has one goal; to devour (defeat, kill, eliminate, destroy) us.

God has equipped us, given us everything we need to defeat the enemy in our lives. We have His Spirit dwelling in us. We have His word to teach us. And He has given us direct access to Him, through prayer (talking to Him and hearing from Him).

It’s up to us, though, to follow Him closely enough to be able to hear Him and have the desire to do what He shows us to do.

Be sober. Be vigilant.
