Bible Verse of The Day – 5-20-19

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV) 10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

As I read and then re-read this verse, it became very clear as to the difference between godly sorrow and worldly sorrow.

Godly sorrow produces genuine remorse, leading to repentance, a change of heart and a change of behavior.

Worldly sorrow produces no repentance, and eventually leads to death.

Why?

Because godly sorrow understands and recognizes accountability to God and His standards.

Worldly sorrow has no real source of accountability, so there is no standard by which to judge our actions.

And many times, worldly sorrow isn’t pure in its motives. A person may be sorry that they got caught doing something, but not actually sorry (remorseful) for whatever it is that they did.

Remorse is the key difference between the two types of sorrow. Remorse is what causes us to regret what we’ve done, not just feel bad about getting caught. Remorse is what will cause us to change our behavior and do our very best to cease doing whatever it was that we did wrong.

Only God’s spirit can bring true remorse and repentance. Even in a person who knows little or nothing of God, our God-given conscience will go a long way toward helping us correct our errors, if we will allow it to.

In the end, it all comes down to God. He makes the difference between sorrow and genuine repentance.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-19-19 – Lean Not on Your Own Understanding

Please click to watch the video now.Greetings in the name of Jesus.

Lean not on your own understanding is something that God’s word teaches us. It’s also the title of our latest video.

In today’s video we discuss what it means to learn how not to lean on our own understanding, but to get God’s understanding, and lean on that instead.

This is a topic that we touch base on frequently in our written devotionals, so we decided to use it as the basis for today’s video also.

We hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch it and let God speak to you through it.

Please click here to watch the video now.

Enjoy the rest of your day.

Sincerely in Christ,

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-18-19

Romans 5:3 (NKJV) 3 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance…

How many of us are tired today, feeling like we cannot do one more thing? Or are we just about ready to throw in the towel and say, “I’m done”?

At times we can all relate to this. But, the most important thing is to remember that, if we don’t give in to our emotions, our tiredness and whatever else is causing us to feel the way we do, we will push through this and come out standing!

It’s those times of affliction, trials, suffering, hardship, tragedy and trauma that produce perseverance, if we don’t give up.

Are we going to let our feelings affect this moment that needs us to get up and press on?

It’s time for us to get serious and know that we are not alone. That we are strong with God’s Spirit in us. That we can and will press on and persevere, even when we feel down.

Don’t let this take us out. It’s not over for us.

God knows what we are dealing with…don’t let the fear of it cripple us.

Deuteronomy 3:22 (NKJV) 22 You must not fear them, for the Lord your God Himself fights for you.’

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-17-19

Galatians 2:20 (NKJV) 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

The life I now live, I live by faith in the Son of God.

What an awesome summary of life in Christ!

We have been crucified with Christ, dead, but made alive again in Him. Our past has been erased by the mercy and grace of God. We are a new creation in Christ.

It is no longer us who lives, but Christ living in us. He has bought us at a price, shedding His blood for our sins, thereby enabling us to become one of His. In Him we live and move and have our being.

Our life is no longer our own. This is one of the biggest things we need to recognize and understand. When we finally get this, it will change the way we see life. And it will change the way we live.

We now live life by faith in the Son of God. We recognize that without Him, we are nothing… dead in sin, purposeless and meaningless. But in Him, we are now dead to sin.

He loved us and gave His life for us. The ultimate sacrifice. For you, and for me.

We need to understand it, embrace it, and walk in it every day of our lives.

Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-16-19

Job 6:24 (NKJV) 24 “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred.

Our words are powerful, whether we say good or bad things. They can bring pain, sorrow and confusion, or they can encourage, enlighten, and lift up.

We have to make an honest effort ahead of time to want to say and do the right things with our words. It’s not an easy task, and we can say something in a split second that we may regret.

Psalm 39:1 (NKJV) 1 I said, “I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.”

We all know how easy it is to spew out things when we are caught off guard. You can actually feel the anger rising when we have been slapped with harsh, rude or disrespectful words. It’s not easy to hold back.

Psalm 39:3 (NKJV) 3 My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue:

But making an effort and reassuring ourselves to say and do the right thing in the heat of the moment will help when we face such things.

The rest we need to leave up to the Holy Spirit to give us the strength and wisdom to reply back with a good and positive reaction.

As we speak with our words according to the way we should, our emotions will follow along. Words can make or break someone, and we will feel better if we are on the “making” end of the stick.

So how can we “make” someone today? Get ready to use our mouths as a powerful instrument and change the world, one word at a time.

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV) 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Focus on making, not breaking. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-15-19

James 1:2-3 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

If you enjoy trials, please raise your hand.

No, I didn’t think you would raise your hand. I didn’t raise mine either.

Nobody enjoys trials. They are, after all, trials. They are not meant to be fun or enjoyable. Trials can be very, well… trying. It’s just the nature of them.

They test us. They can stress us out. They can cause fear, and maybe even anxiety for some people.

But what does God’s word say about them? It says to “count it all joy when we fall into various trials”.

No, that’s not a typo or a joke. It’s God’s way of saying that trials are good for us, even though we don’t like them much (if at all).

Why are they good for us? Because they teach us patience and they test our faith.

When the pressure of a trial hits us hard, we get to see what we’re really made of. Our faith is put to the test, and we get to see how much we really trust God.

No, God doesn’t expect us to literally laugh about the trials we go through. But He does want us to keep our joy intact, so we don’t become miserable and lose sight of His faithfulness.

And as we learn to trust Him more and more, trials will be less stressful and less apt to cause our faith in Him to falter during tough times.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-14-19

James 5:16 (NKJV) 16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Are we able to do this today? Are we able to let people share the things they are going through with us, without us running and telling everyone about their issues and problems?

We need to understand that when people open up to us, and they tell us about things that they are dealing with, it is not our business to take it anywhere else but to the Lord in prayer.

This is not easy for some people to do. The first thing they want to do is go and tell so and so. How can we learn to keep it safe and only go to God with it?

We have to understand the responsibility of what we are being entrusted with, and the importance of what is taking place.

If God opens the door for us to help someone get through something, it is an honor and privilege to be a servant to the Lord, and to that person who is opening up their heart and confessing.

This is not given to us for gossip material. This is a time to HELP someone. To be a blessing to them. To lift them and their situation up. To watch from a distance, praying for the answer of God to come in and be mighty in their time of need or desperation.

They are trusting us with their innermost secret or dilemma. And we need to be trustworthy, while also being fervent in prayer.

Understanding that this is an honor, and the importance of being silent and keeping it just between them, us and God, is the heart of a righteous man. The efforts and the prayers of this kind of person will avail much and will see the answers, the change and the victory come to pass! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-13-19

Exodus 34:12 (NKJV) 12 Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst.

Whether we realize it or not, the land in which we live can have a big impact on our lives. Every territory is subject to certain types of spiritual powers, activities and principalities.

This is usually evident in the various crimes committed in a town, city, region or province. It can also be seen in many of the cultural activities, whether religiously affiliated or not.

Some examples might be epidemics of high drug use, such as heroin or other opioids. Or it might be sexual activities such as prostitution or human trafficking. It might be corruption of various types.

If we’re not careful, and our discernment isn’t sharp, we can fall prey to some of these things that can cause us to dishonor God and damage our relationship with Him.

Many times, these things can be so entrenched in our area that we may not even recognize them as being bad. Or we may become desensitized to them, causing us to disregard or minimize the evil they represent.

And in worst-case scenarios, we may even participate in them to some degree because of our dulled senses. This is especially true with things like dishonesty and various types of corruption, since they don’t appear to hurt or harm a person directly.

In the verse above, God warned Moses about this. He told him specifically not to make a covenant with the people in the lands where he was going. Doing so would become a snare for Moses and the Israelites.

This warning needs to be passed along to all of us too, so we remain vigilant and alert, being cautious as to what we let influence us.

Some things can be very subtle, and they will sneak their way into our lives. Others, not so much. They are blatant and very easily seen to everyone except those who are spiritually dull.

Let’s be sharp and discerning, being sure to pay attention to God’s warnings, and giving Him the honor He deserves in every area of our lives.

My Bible Verse of The Day – 5-12-19 – And He Came to Himself

Please click to watch the video now.Greetings in the name of Jesus!

And he came to himself. Those were words spoken by Jesus. And it’s also the title of our latest video.

Jesus shared the story of the prodigal son. In today’s video, we talk briefly about that story, but we focus mainly on the body of Christ and how the story of the prodigal relates to us as a whole, and as individuals.

We hope this short video will help show each of us where we are at in our walk with God, and where we can make improvements to make that walk stronger.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-11-19

Matthew 11:30 (NKJV) 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

My Yoke is easy.

Why then are we carrying such a heaviness in our hearts?

Are we in our heads, relying on our intellect and human understanding to figure everything out? This has got to be one of the most common things among us all; Figuring things out.

This is what starts the heaviness, being in our heads. Thinking. Constantly thinking.

This is something we all have to get balanced in. When we are faced with heavy stuff, we need to remind ourselves of what Jesus is saying, and understand that God does not always require us to figure things out.

He asks us to come to Him, let Him figure it out. We are to rest and follow His leading, taking the steps as He opens up the door. Amen.

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Get that stuff off our mind, out of our head. Let Jesus touch our hearts with His peace that we may walk in His understanding.

Come, take rest.

Philippians 4:7 (NKJV) 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-10-19

Job 19:25 (NKJV) 25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;

Job was in the midst of misery.

His skin was diseased. His family was gone. His friends had deserted him. Even his wife insulted him.

As Job penned the words above, he was writing down all of his sorrows and making an account of all who despised him or who had left him.

His life was in shambles. He had been struck with boils all over his body. He had lost his children and all of his livestock. Nobody expected him to live through the ordeal.

But even as he wrote down all of his calamities, he penned those words, “I know that my Redeemer lives”.

What a testament to Job’s faith!

Many years ago, God showed me that despite so many people always talking about the patience of Job, it was his faith that was greater. And it was that faith that allowed him to be patient in his affliction and endure his terrible situation without giving up and cursing God.

Let’s have the faith of Job, even as we endure afflictions, looking to our Redeemer, who lives!
