Bible Verse of The Day – 8-31-18

John 15:9 (NKJV) 9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.

We all want to be loved and feel loved. No matter how young or old we are, feeling loved is important to us.

The people we surround ourselves with are usually those that have shown us kindness and love at one time or another in our life. We know who they are and we appreciate the way they treat us.

But there are those times we really think someone cares about us and then something happens and they change the way they are toward us. They no longer want anything to do with us and they aren’t even respectful enough to come to us and talk about it. What is that?

Proverbs 17:17 (NKJV) 17 A friend loves at all times…

That was not a true friend or a loving relationship. That was a “if things go their way, everything is fine” relationship. But if things don’t go their way, it’s over and done.

It can sometimes be hard to discern these types of people before we go pouring our hearts out to them. Many times we can get burned because we don’t think or act this way and would never treat anyone like this. And when we encounter it, it throws us for a loop.

Don’t be discouraged if this has happened to you. Don’t blame yourself or feel guilty, trying to figure out what you could have done differently.

This type of person is very hard to please unless we do everything the way they want us to. We will always be the ones to have to bend, give in or give up on the things we enjoy.

That is not a good, healthy relationship. That is called a one-way relationship, and it really isn’t a relationship at all.

God loves us with true love. He is there for us no matter what we did, have done, or even continue to do. He is forever our love, as we continue to trust and have faith in His precious Son, Jesus Christ.

He will lift us up when we are down, and bring joy to our hearts in times of sadness. His love grows stronger in us the more we turn to Him.

If we are lost because a relationship has not worked out the way we thought it would, remember that no matter what, Jesus loves us and we must abide in His love.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-30-18

Psalm 16:8 (NKJV) 8 I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.

Many things in life will try to move us. Storms beat against us. Trials try to wear us down. People try to influence us.

Sometimes it can be hard to keep fighting and resisting. We can get downright tired.

But if we keep God always before us, He will keep us from falling. He will be our strength when we’re weak. He will be our rest when we’re tired. He will be our shelter from the storms. He will be our sustenance when we’re hungry.

Psalm 91:1-2 (NKJV) 91 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

Keep God before us. And keep our eyes fixed on Him. We shall not be moved.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-29-18

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.

I was sitting in the dentist office one day recently and the dentist was sharing how she had lost her grandfather. He had just left his house and was in an accident. He never returned home.

She said, “I don’t mean to sound morbid, but ever since I learned of what happened to him, I never leave home without saying good bye and I love you, because we just don’t know”.

I have no idea how we even got on that subject. But, I thought about it and realized that it’s the things we go through that impact us the most. Whether good or bad, we can learn something very valuable at times.

Instead of her getting hard, bitter and unforgiving, she chose to take something good from it. She chose to make sure the ones she cares about know she loves them.

This may seem like a very small detail because most of us say goodbye when we are leaving. But, the “I love you” part is what hit me. Many of us just take it for granted that they already know. Or we might even think that that they don’t need to hear it.

Let’s not wait until they are gone and then regret not telling them how we felt about them, how much we appreciate them and care about them. Be sure to take the time and make it known.

It’s those little words and the show of affection that are so comforting and mean so much for both sides.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-28-18

Ezekiel 36:26 (NKJV) 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Wow! What an incredible statement from God.

This verse describes how God sees us and what He does for us when we turn our lives over to Him.

God doesn’t just give us His name, He gives us new life. He takes our old, hard, broken heart and replaces it with a new one. He takes our heart of stone and replaces it with a heart of flesh.

There is so much love and compassion expressed in this verse. Once we see it for what it is, it will touch us in a way that we may have never felt before. It will give us a new outlook on who we are and who God is.

God originally spoke these words to the nation of Israel, through the prophet Ezekiel. But they are still relevant to us today if we have become His children and made Him our Father.

Surrender to God. Let Him give you a new heart, replacing your tired, hardened heart of stone with a beautiful, new heart of flesh.

You will not regret it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-27-18

Psalm 34:17 (NKJV) 17 The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, And delivers them out of all their troubles.

Are we willing to let God show us how to do things?

When we turn everything over to Him and we say, “Lord, have it.” we are saying, “we are done trying to figure it out. We are at the end of our rope and there is no way we can keep going like this”.

God will then take steps to show us how to make things right and get us up and going again. But, most times it will be in a way that we would have never expected.

A lot of times when we have reached this point or place, we are ready for just about anything. We will be excited and at peace all at the same time, because we will begin to see God’s hand move.

We will see things begin to change in our situation and we will be OK with it all, because most times we are at rock bottom or at wits end when we reach this place.

During this time and season of our lives, despite the storm happening around us, we will usually be more at peace than we have ever been. And we will wonder why we waited so long before letting God “have the wheel”, so to speak.

But, it’s important to know that there is a step we must take in order to get to this point.

Most people don’t want to hear about the step we are about to talk about, and many times that is why they are still in the same boat. They will usually sigh, walk away, ignore or pretend they didn’t hear it. Or they will take the easy way out and say, “well, I’m not in a position to do this yet, but when I get there, that will be the first thing I’ll do”.

This step we’re talking about is in the book of Malachi. It starts with an action word, “BRING!”

Malachi 3:10 (NKJV) 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.

I will never forget the day I saw that. I was sitting at my desk with our bills sitting in front of me, and I thought “HOW, God?”.

How do we bring our tithes to you with all of these bills in front of me that need to be paid?

We knew we had to make a choice.

This was a serious decision that could make or break us. We were in financial distress, and God was telling us to “bring”.

Would we give to God or hold back and wait for a more convenient time?

But, I took my pen, and before I wrote out any checks for our bills, I paid God first.

Making that choice, as hard as it was, allowed God to begin showing us how to walk by faith, even in our finances.

We are praying that God will help you make the right decision also. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-25-18

Galatians 6:9 (NKJV) 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.

Life and its challenges can be tiring. It can wear us down and cause us to want to give up sometimes.

We may go through seasons where we feel like we can’t seem to catch up or get ahead, no matter what we do. It happens to all of us from time to time. It’s part of life here on earth. It’s normal.

But, feeling like we want to give up shouldn’t cause us to actually want to give up. That feeling we get is simply our emotions pulling on us. We shouldn’t live based on our emotions, though. Emotions are fleshly. We should live by the Spirit!

Romans 8:13 (NKJV) 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

As we learn to live and walk by the Spirit, we will spend less time being ruled by our emotions. We will also spend less time feeling run down, defeated and hopeless.

Instead, we will accomplish so much more. And God’s word promises us a harvest if we don’t give up!

So, push those fleshly emotions down and let the Spirit lead you, drawing your strength from God. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-24-18

Psalm 119:114 (NKJV) 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word.

Hiding in God can happen in two different ways. One, we hide in Him for protection from an attack. Two, we hide in Him for protection from distractions, and the things that try to pull us away from spending time with Him.

Hiding in God takes discipline. It means that we need to to pull away from all the things that the enemy may tempt us with. Every second of the day we have to be discerning and alert.

Why does the devil work so hard to distract us and to keep us busy so that we have no hiding time with God?

Because he knows the strength, discipline and focus we have when we spend time with God and in His word.

God is our shield. He protects us from the devil, his schemes and the plans that he has to attack us.

The devil has it out for us all. None of us are exempt from it, even if we are followers of Christ. We still have to watch out for and discern the attacks of the enemy.

The good news is that we have God on our side, and through Him we are more than conquerors! Amen.

Romans 8:37 (NKJV) 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

We can and we will get past these temptations that pull on us, and spend time with the Most High God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-23-18

1 Kings 19:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

There is a tendency today in Christianity to chase the things that are perceived to be God. We will often see this when people flock to various “moves of God”.

Word will get out that there is a “revival taking place” at a specific place. People will flock to that place by the tens of thousands, or perhaps even by the hundreds of thousands.

While this is understandable to a certain degree, it can also be a very big distraction for most people.

The pursuit of God is something personal. It takes place at the heart level, not in so many super-exciting, hype-filled, well-promoted events that make bold promises of miracles and other super-natural occurrences.

Now, this is not to say that God doesn’t move in ways that are exciting and awe-inspiring. He can and He does. But not because we have said it will be so. God is God and He will not be pushed or influenced by our need for excitement and awe.

God is a personal God who moves and meets us one on one. He wants us to seek Him wholeheartedly in a close, intimate way that can’t happen in so many hype-filled, crowded places where noise and excitement rule.

As God passed by Elijah in the verses above, there were many spectacular events that took place; rocks breaking into pieces, mighty winds, earthquakes and fire. But God was not in any of them.

In the end, there was a still, small voice. This can also be translated as a small, quiet whisper. It was there that God was found.

So, despite our innate ”need for speed” and excitement, let’s be sure to get personal with God and keep our priorities straight when it comes to what we chase and pursue.

Pursue God, and only God. And watch as our relationship with Him becomes so much more than hype and noise.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-22-18

Luke 12:6-7 (NKJV) 6 “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

We are of more value to God than even the sparrows that He does not forget.

Do you believe this with your heart today?

Many years ago, we had just come home from church. We were in a very hard place in our lives and we needed something from God. We needed to know He was there, that He was with us.

You know those moments when you just long to see one little thing? That’s all it will take to let you know it’s OK and It will all work out.

As we walked toward the door to our home, Pastor Curt saw a sparrow sitting on the ground. He slowly walked up to it, reached down and stroked the sparrow’s head. And the sparrow stayed right there, letting him pet him for as long as he wanted to.

It was in that moment that God brought great comfort to Pastor Curt, and he was encouraged and lifted up in his spirit.

God speaks to us in many ways and He will bring reassurance. We need to be open and listen.

He cares for us deeply. He is there with us and will help us if we trust Him long enough to let Him see things through.

Bible Verse of The Day – 8-21-18

Proverbs 28:6 (NKJV) 6 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

Many of us may be in financial situations that make us feel like we’re backed up against a wall. We may be getting by, but never seem to have any extra. No surplus.

We try our best to do things the right way, the way of integrity and honesty, the way that pleases God.

What’s more, we see people who we know are not living their lives to please God, yet they seem to have an abundance of finances. They lack nothing, at least based on what we see.

This can sometimes cause us to envy their financial status. We can become jealous. We may even covet what they have.

But God has told us that we are far better off to be of lower financial stature and be upright and honest than to be wealthy and of questionable character, obtaining wealth by perverse and corrupt ways.

Would our lives be easier if we had financial abundance? On the surface, yes. But it’s also important that we not forfeit our morals and integrity in exchange for financial abundance.

Learning to live on a tight budget means having to look to and lean on God for our provision. It tests our faith and our steadfastness when it comes to our walk with God. And if we let Him, God will teach us much about trusting Him during those lean times.

Is it always pleasant? No. It’s not. But nothing worth anything comes easy. And the lessons we learn as we lean on Him will far outweigh the convenience of abundant wealth gained by less than honest means.
