Bible Verse of The Day – 1-18-16

2 Timothy 3:1 (NKJV) 3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come:

We are living in perilous times.

I look back on my 53 years of life and I see such a contrast when I compare today to when I was a child. Things have changed so vastly… so drastically.

I look back to when our own children were small, and I see such a stark contrast to the days we live in now.

Things have accelerated greatly during the last several years. The world as a whole has changed, declined, deteriorated.

There seems to be so little good in the world, as evil pervades society, in every aspect of it.

Today we learned of an elderly Australian couple who has been kidnapped by terrorists. This was a couple who have spent years and years of their lives helping people. Things like this are senseless, yet have become commonplace in today’s world.

As I see and hear of these types of things, I am always so torn. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. I know how badly they must hurt. I try to understand the frustration they must be feeling, as they struggle to make sense of these senseless acts of violence and rebellion.

My natural side, my flesh, wants to lash out at the perpetrators. Especially as a man, and the protector of my own family. I want to speak words of harm against them.

But deep inside, I know that speaking evil words against evil people will never fix anything.

Instead, God prompts us to pray for the victims and their families. Pray for healing. Pray for peace and solace. Pray that they will seek Him and press into Him. And pray that, somehow, some good will come from these things.

And pray that the workers of these terrible acts of evil will see the error of their ways and repent, falling on their knees before God and begging for His forgiveness.

Yes, we are living in perilous times. But they are also times of great opportunity for us to press into God and seek His will in every aspect of our lives and the lives of those around us.

The enemy would like nothing better than for us to repay evil with evil. But as followers of Christ, we need to live, walk and speak by His spirit.

So, today, as we are continually barraged with evil from all sides, let’s speak words of healing. Let’s pray for each other and for those across the globe who need God’s healing touch, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-16-16

Psalm 30:5 (NKJV) 5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning.

As we wrote about yesterday, sometimes we need to wait on God. Sometimes the waiting can be painful. Sometimes it can feel like forever.

And while we’re waiting, we can get pretty caught up in our emotions. They can seem like a rollercoaster, up and then down, and then up again.

And in all of this, things can sometimes seem so unsure. But we need to remember something, and that is this; God’s favor is for life. Weeping may last for the night. But joy comes in the morning!!

This season of struggle that you’re going through is not forever. This trial that you’re facing will not destroy you. This time of drought that you’re in won’t last forever.

We can cry our tears and we can lay on our faces before God, asking Him to take this thing away that’s so daunting in front of us.

But when everything is said and done, our tears and our weeping will only be for a short time. And then joy will return!

So hold fast to His promises and don’t give up hope. Wipe the tears from your eyes and look up. Morning is coming soon.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-15-16

Psalm 27:14 (NKJV) 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!

Are we getting ready to make a huge move? If we can hold out and wait on the Lord, He will strengthen our hearts and help us to make the right choice.

Are we tired today, feeling like we are just done with it all? Are we stressed and worn out from waiting, and then waiting some more?

We may need to remind ourselves of all the other times that God was there for us and He answered our prayers.

This time is no different. It may be a little different situation, but He is the same God that helped us last time. And He will be there for us this time as well.

Be of good courage and wait!!

Don’t let anxiety take over and sweep us off our feet. It will distract us and take us down the wrong road, if we let it. Anxiety, or anxiousness, is a wearing out tactic the enemy loves to use on us all.

The Lord is faithful. Wait. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-14-16

Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

It’s good to make sure that in all our busyness we take time to stay healthy and whole, both physically and spiritually. If we are suffering today from any kind of illness, seek God for direction in getting His proper care.

If we are overweight and need help with eating habits or getting exercise, don’t wait until we begin to have health issues. Acknowledge it, and ask God to guide us in where to find the help we need, and to help us have self discipline, saying no when we need to.

Is the stress from all that we do eating away at our insides day and night? Do we suffer from acid reflux, indigestion, migraines and achy back etc?

Ask God for a healthy balance in showing us how to turn off the mind and slow things down. Maybe it’s time for a rest, time to take a vacation, or simply to get outside and take a walk. Get away from it all, having some NO-thinking and NO-phone time.

Healthy downtime or play time is so important and can bring healing to our natural bodies, mind and our relationship with Christ.

We can try to push through the pressures of our everyday needs and the necessities of life, work, the kids, the house, the ministry, etc. We can try ignoring the very truth about how we feel on the inside and the effects from it on the outside. But we need to remember that our bodies, minds and souls are important to God.

It’s up to us to take the necessary steps, and if we don’t know how or we don’t have the strength, we need to ask for help from Him. He will guide our steps and point us in the right direction if we let Him.

Jeremiah 17:14 (NKJV) 14 Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise.

God cares. It’s OK to take a healthy step today toward caring for ourselves. Whatever the cost may be, it is worth it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-13-16

Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV) 14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

Pursue peace with all people; that’s a piece of scripture that often gets overlooked. So let’s talk about it for a few minutes.

We know that with all of the frailties and idiosyncrasies of humanity, complete peace will never be a reality here on earth. It’s just not possible.

But, with God’s help and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we, as followers of Christ, can make every effort to live at peace with those around us. Here’s how.

First, we need to remain humble. God’s word tells us to be clothed with humility and be submissive to one another.

1 Peter 5:5 (NKJV) 5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility…

So as we let God teach us to be humble, and we consider others, our tendency to always want to be right will diminish. This alone can save us lots of stress and friction in our lives.

And the largest part of this is learning to understand ourselves and others with regard to personalities. We are all unique, and this uniqueness has good and bad sides to it.

As we mature and grow as believers, we should also begin to be able to see ourselves more clearly and where we can help our relationships and interactions with others by making sure that we’re paying attention to the things we say and the way we say them.

We may not always understand why others react the way they do or why they do things in a certain way, but if we let God guide and teach us, we will begin to learn these things. And in learning, we will find ourselves interacting with people in a new way that helps us be at peace with people, instead of at odds with them all the time.

And the more we let God teach us, the easier this will get. It won’t happen overnight, but it’s more than worth the effort it takes.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-12-16

Mark 11:25 (NKJV) 25 “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.

Forgiveness is something that comes to us all at one time or another. We may have to forgive ourselves for something we have done. Or maybe we need to forgive a friend, parent, child, spouse, teacher, or even a Minister, for something they have done against us.

We will not be free from the memory or torment of it until we forgive that person or ourselves. We can’t just stuff it down and forget about it, because it will rise its head every so often.

It will affect our daily lives, leaving us insecure and scared at times. It can make us afraid to make certain moves, because of our bad experience.

A lot of people suffer from lack of forgiveness. They simply don’t realize that deep inside they are still holding on to a piece of it.

Let Christ help today in showing us what we are still holding onto. Let Him take the fear and insecurity from us and exchange it for healing and restoration. This will allow us to be strong and steady again, having victory in all situations we face.

Psalm 86:5 (NKJV) 5 For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, And abundant in mercy to all those who call upon You.

Forgive and live again!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-11-16

Proverbs 1:5-7 (NKJV) 5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 6 To understand a proverb and an enigma, The words of the wise and their riddles. 7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Wisdom is such an important, yet overlooked part of life.

Many times people tend to think that if we’re followers of Christ, we just need to be super spiritual and let God lead us by His spirit, and that we don’t need to think for ourselves.

And while we do need to be led by His spirit, every single day, we also need to heed wisdom and wise counsel in so much of what we do. The two go hand in hand quite often.

There will definitely be times when conventional wisdom doesn’t seem to line up with what God’s spirit is telling us or showing us. We’ve taught on that a lot. But if we’re not getting clear direction from God’s spirit about a situation or a decision, we need to follow wisdom.

The Bible clearly says that if we despise wisdom, we are fools. I don’t know about you, but being a fool is not one of my lifetime goals.

So, as hard as it might seem sometimes, it will always benefit us to wait on God and listen, and seek wise counsel in those decisions that are critical and important.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-9-16

John 7:38 (NKJV) 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

Why at times do we get invited to functions that aren’t really something we care to go to?

Why, when we walk into a room, do people gravitate to us? Why, at times, do people come up to us and start talking to us, and we don’t even know them?

Why at times do we catch people staring at us and saying, “do I know you from somewhere,” even though we have never met them before?

Because Christ’s light, love, and life shines through us. It draws them to Him and He lives in us.

It is His living water that draws people.

The next time we get invited to something and we have no idea WHY, don’t be so quick to throw out the invite. Pray about it.

It may very well be a place that is dry and needs God’s living water.

Sometimes all it takes is for us to just show up with Christ who lives in us, and smile.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-8-16

Romans 8:31 (NKJV) 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Sometimes we all just need a bit of encouragement. Things can come against us and we can get worn down from the onslaught of the enemy.

But fear not, for God is with us! And if He is for us, who can be against us?

So, today we want to encourage everyone with the following passages, direct from the Word of God. Read them and take them to heart. And apply them to your life and your situation.

Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV) 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:37 (NKJV) 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

Psalm 23:4 (NKJV) 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Ephesians 6:14-16 (NKJV) 14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

God is our Rock and our Fortress. He is the One we run to for shelter!

Please be praying for Pastor Ellie. She has tested positive for Lyme Disease. We are believing for complete healing, in the name of Jesus. The enemy will not have victory.

God is our physician and our Healer. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-7-16

Luke 15:7 (NKJV) 7 I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance

God loves when we come and repent, confessing our sins to Him.

We may struggle with going to Him, but we shouldn’t be afraid. He welcomes us with open arms. He listens to us and then He forgives us and cleanses us from unrighteousness.

We all fall short at times. Just the other day I was  constantly aggravated over things that really were out of my control. It really affected my attitude throughout most of the day. Later that night as I laid in bed, I felt terrible. I wasted a good day, feeling aggravated.

I asked God to forgive me and help me to stop trying to fix problems that are out of my control. After I unloaded and repented for my behavior and attitude, I was able to rest, knowing that God understands. As I confessed to Him, I felt light again.

The heaviness that comes with sin is draining.

1 John 1:9 (NKJV) 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Rest in knowing that God’s arms are open to us no matter what kind of day we have. He’s ready to listen, He’s ready to speak and ready to forgive.

Bible Verse of The Day – 1-6-16

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Jesus calls us to Himself. Why? To give us rest. What does He mean by that?

He wants to give us rest from the things that wear on us. He wants to give us rest from the things that try to destroy us.

Most of all, He wants to give us rest from the sin that tries to wreak havoc with our lives.

Sin will destroy us if we let it. Sin will cause us stress. Sin will make us sick. Sin will kill us at a young age, if we let it.

Jesus came for the sinner, not for the righteous. Way too many times we think that we need to clean ourselves up before we can come to Jesus. This is a lie! And this lie will send people to eternal condemnation if it isn’t rebuked and corrected.

Mark 2:17 (NKJV) 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

Jesus is the cleanup specialist! He takes us; broken, dirty, shameful. And He makes us brand new!

He forgives the sin. He wipes away the guilt and shame. He cleans us up. And He teaches the truth and value of repentance and humility.

If you’ve been waiting to come to Jesus until after you get your act together, stop waiting!

If you’ve been waiting to come to Jesus until after you get yourself cleaned up, stop waiting!

Jesus is the Master Physician. He is the Master Cleaner. And He is the Master Builder.

Let Him take away the guilt and shame, clean you up and make you brand new.

Today’s the day.
