Bible Verse of The Day – 4-17-15

Romans 13:8 (NKJV) 8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

Loving one another. Is it easier to love someone if we don’t really know them? Or is it easier to love someone that we already know?

Sometimes knowing more about someone can cause us not to love them, due to the way they act or the way they treat others. Maybe their habits, or problems they have caused in our life, turn us away from loving them.

In order to love one another the way Jesus tells us to, we need to get understanding of how Christ loved us first. Despite all our sin and disobedience, He gave His life for each one of us. We did not deserve it or do anything that was worthy of His love.

1 John 4:19 (NKJV) 19 We love Him because He first loved us.

We did not have to do anything for Christ, or be a good person, in order for Him to love us. Therefore we can’t put stipulations on who we are to love.

We need to follow His example and love others, no matter what we know or don’t know about that person, and no matter what they’ve done or not done to us or to others. And, no matter what race or denomination they are, etc.

We are called to owe no one anything except to love one another. Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-16-15

Psalm 39:5 (NKJV) 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.

We are, at the very best, vapor.

It doesn’t matter what we attain, what we accomplish or how much we accumulate while we’re alive here on earth. In the end, we are all the same.

We can be a homeless person on the street or the CEO of a billion dollar global corporation, living in a multi-million dollar mansion. It doesn’t matter. Because when we breathe our last breath, our life has been no more than a vapor.

We may live to be a hundred years old. And we may be looked upon as being alive for many decades, but in the eyes of God, our age is nothing.

Life goes by so fast. I always tell people who have a newborn baby that they had better not blink, because if they do, their child will be an adult and moving out of the house to get married.

Many people chuckle when I say that to them, but years later, they tell me how true it is, as they see their children growing up so quickly.

We need to cherish each day that we’re given. Each day is a gift from God, not ours to dawdle away or waste.

We need to love those around us and spend time with them while we can. We never know when we will see someone for the last time.

Let’s live life with purpose, not letting it slip through our fingers. This may sound cliché, but it’s a truth that only we can embrace and bring to reality in our own lives. Nobody can do it for us.

So love God and those He has placed in your life. It doesn’t get any better than that.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-15-15

1 Kings 19:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

A still small voice. It’s how God chooses to speak.

He could easily speak through more fantastic and dramatic means, such as wind, earthquakes, fire, thunder & lightning and other loud ways.

But He chooses a still small voice. Why?

One of the reasons is because God doesn’t always want us to make choices based on what’s obvious. The obvious takes no faith to trust in. It’s just obvious, and lacking in the sense that it requires no spiritual maturity and no faith to see it, hear it or find it.

God doesn’t necessarily try to make things hard for us to see, hear or find, but He does do things in a way that require us to use discernment and spiritual understanding in order to make right decisions.

The things of God don’t always make sense to our minds. But they do make sense to our spirits, if our spirits are in tune with His.

So our goal should always be to get God’s wisdom and understanding, which will make it easier for us to discern spirits and hear God when He speaks.

Proverbs 4:7 (NKJV) 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-14-15

Psalm 147:1(NKJV) 147 Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

Has God been good to us?

Has He shown up in our situation when we thought nothing could be done? Did He get us that breakthrough we were waiting for? Did He find that apartment we needed, in the right spot of town at the right price?

Did He make a way for us to purchase a home when we could not find a way? Did He get us that raise we so needed? Or that spouse we prayed for?

How about our children? Has He been protecting them and keeping them safe in their travels and in their studies, etc.

Did He save us from sickness and heal our body? Has He delivered us from the enemy’s clutches?

Most important of ALL… Did He save us from hell and make a way for us to live eternally with Him?

I’d say we have a lot of praising to do today!!

It doesn’t matter whether we can sing or not, whether we have a super worship leader’s voice or not or whether we are in a church building or not. We need to break out and bring down the house with a song of praise!!

Why? For it is pleasant, beautiful and it is GOOD!

Let go today. Sing that song to Him. He wants to hear our voice!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-13-15

John 8:12 (NKJV) 12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

If we follow Jesus we will not walk in darkness. How do we follow Him? By knowing His Word and walking it out in any given situation.

Some of the things He says to do will be hard, but He will help us do them if we surrender ourselves to Him and let Him help.

For instance, He says in Luke 6:28 (NKJV) 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.

It’s easy to read this, but to actually walk it out will show us where we need improvement or change.

When reality hits and someone is in our face, screaming and hollering, telling us we are no good, and they can’t stand us, the words, the rejection and the anger will try to cause us to react. It will be up to us at that moment to act in the way God’s Word tells us to.

Our emotions, the hurt, and the pain will all come to the surface and it may cause us to do the wrong thing, even though we know what the right thing is to do.

Don’t get caught up in the emotion of it and give in to darkness. Stay strong, put the feelings aside and walk in the light of life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-11-15

Romans 5:8 (NKJV) 8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I remember before I became a Christian. I started hearing the gospel and it left an impression on me almost immediately.

I can remember standing in a church, listening and knowing that I needed to put my faith in Jesus long before I actually did it.

But I had what I thought were legitimate reasons for waiting. I wanted to get my act cleaned up first. I wanted to stop swearing, change my attitude, stop drinking, and a list of other things. I thought I had to do this in order to present myself to God and be saved.

Boy, was I wrong.

I eventually understood that God wanted me just as I was, with all of the bad habits, shortcomings and baggage. It was His desire to take me and clean me up and use me for His kingdom.

Mark 2:17 (NKJV) 17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.

Once I understood this, it made a world of difference and I finally turned my life over to Christ. And boy did it feel good to have my sins forgiven!

God did eventually help me to get cleaned up. My language changed. My habits changed. I became a new man by the blood of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit.

And God can do the same for you. Stop thinking that you have to make yourself clean in order to come to God. Come to Him first, and then let Him do the cleaning. He’s more than able to handle it!

Today is the day of salvation.

2 Corinthians 6:2 (NKJV) 2 For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-10-15

Psalm 127:3 (NKJV) 3 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward.

I got to spend some time with my grandkids this afternoon.

They stopped by for a while after we had eaten our lunch. When they got here, I still had some work to get finished up, so I stayed focused and got it finished. But once I was finished, they got my undivided attention.

And I loved every minute of it 🙂

I got to lay on the floor and draw and color some pictures. We ate together. I sang some silly songs for them. We shared some big laughs and we just hung out and “did stuff”.

After they had gone home, God impressed on my heart how much of a blessing children really are.

Yes, they are a lot of work to raise. And sometimes they can be tiring, frustrating and even exasperating! But in the end, they are a blessing.

It is so very important that we give our children, and our grandchildren, the time that they deserve. They really do grow up so quickly. And before we know it, we’re looking back and wondering where the time went, and wishing that we had spent more time with them instead of insisting that we will spend time with them when everything else gets caught up or finished.

I want to remind everyone today that many of those things can wait. Whether it’s work, ministry, pleasure, hobbies or anything else, it’s very rarely more important than the precious little lives that God has placed us in charge of nurturing.

We challenge everyone, including ourselves, to take a look at how we’re spending our time and make sure that we’re not putting our children or grandchildren in second place, behind less important things.

Remember; what they see in us as parents and grandparents is also how they will view God, their Heavenly Father.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-15

Psalm 89:1 (NKJV) 89 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever; With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations.

I can’t sing enough of His mercies and how good He has been to us in our lives. We have had some pretty big things take place over the years that leave us in awe over God’s faithfulness.

But in order to see His faithfulness it took listening and following His plan, even when we wanted to do something else.

We believe God wants to do more in the lives of every believer today. But it’s going to take us drawing closer to Him, listening and stepping out in faith at times.

Faith is the key here. Trusting God, not man, is what’s going to get that faith working.

Are we willing to put everything aside and follow Him? This is when we will see His faithfulness at hand.

Matthew 14:29(NKJV) 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-8-15

Galatians 6:15 (NKJV) 15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation.

There are so many things that try to get between us and our salvation.

Man has so many ideas about how we should connect with God and interact with Him.

We have to wear certain kinds of clothing, have a certain kind of haircut and maybe even listen to certain kinds of music.

And some may even go so far as to say that we have to attend a certain type of church, or we’re not Christians at all.

In Christ, there is neither Jew nor Greek. There is neither black nor white. There is neither Baptist, nor Church of God, Lutheran, Methodist, Southern Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian or any other kind of label we might choose to put on ourselves.

There is Christ or there is nothing.

As humans, we have driven a wedge between God and those who need Him. We have widened the gap between God and man, instead of bridging it.

We need God’s help to fix this.

The good news is that it’s never too late to start and never too late to make things right.

Church, the time is now! The day is upon us when we need to seek God like we have never sought Him before and ask Him to help us fix the mess we’ve made of His body.

And then, we let Him start with us, by showing us where we’ve built gaps instead of bridging the gap.

Today is the day.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-7-15

Luke 6:38 (NKJV) 38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Giving is so rewarding, whether it’s giving of our time, giving of our money, or giving of material things, etc. This past week and a half has been a crucial time of giving for me.

My Dad was having trouble with chest pains and went to see a heart specialist. He just barely made it in, only to have them take him out by ambulance to bring him to the Emergency room, and then finding out he needed three way bypass heart surgery. My dad is 80 years old.

I was so thankful that I could be there and walk through it with him and be there for my Mom. Everything that I had to get done on my schedule came to a screeching halt. It was my time to give to them.

At times I was exhausted. I’d hold back my emotions and tears just to be strong for them. Even though I was scared and my legs were ready to crumple beneath me from the different reports the doctor would give us.

It was not about me. It was about putting myself and my feelings aside to help someone else get through a tough time in their life.

Giving of our time means so much to people, and through it they see how much we care.

It is a time to let others see God’s love and strength work through us. Giving is a sacrifice, but a very rewarding one at that.

Give and it will be given to you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-6-15

Matthew 1:23 (NKJV) 23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

God with us.

Those three words change everything for those who understand them.

We’ve taught on this before, but it’s always good to touch on important things again once in a while.

The word could have said “God is with us”. But it didn’t. It said “God with us”. There is a vast difference between those two phrases, but many people don’t realize the difference, so let’s take a look at it for a moment.

You see, the name Immanuel literally means “God with us”, not “God is with us”.

Saying God is with us is a very general statement that could be taken many different ways.

But saying God with us literally means that Jesus is God, with us.

He is God and He is with us.

God is here, with us. He is among us, living with us, dwelling with us and spending time with us, in person.

God with us. Do you see it?

So as you begin to see the reality and the scope of this, it brings a whole new meaning to that phrase and to why He was called Immanuel.

It takes the notion of God being a distant entity somewhere out there in the universe, and destroys it. It shows us that God chose to come to earth in the form of a man and live among us. Hence, God, with us.

Ponder on this for a bit and try to let it sink in. And then praise Him for the reality of the fact that He did come and dwell with us.

He is God, with us!
