Bible Verse of The Day – 9-17-14

Jeremiah 9 :23,24 (NKJV) Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; 24 But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me,That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,” says the Lord.

This is how God would like us to walk; humbled in Him. For in Him we are wise, in Him we are mighty and in Him we are rich!

We are so blessed! But that is not what he wants us to glory in. Instead, He is asking us to understand Him, to know Him and to walk every day in humility.

Only God can keep us humbled when we walk in such blessings, by staying tightly knitted to Him.

One day as I was praying, God spoke to me. He told me to stay close to Him. The exact words He used were “tightly knitted”.

He gave me an example of a husband and wife. As they sit close together on a couch or wherever it may be, nothing can squeeze in between them without being noticed. And the closer they get to each other, the more noticeable that thing is that’s trying to squeeze between them.

It is that way when we get close to God. We get so close, when we are  tightly knitted with Him, that anything trying to come in between us stands out quickly.

Get tightly knitted with Him today so that we may remain humble in all that He blesses us with.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-16-14

Colossians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

To many people, Christianity is just something that’s done in passing, as a way of showing some kind of faith or belief in God, but with little or no commitment to “walking it out”. In other words, it’s not really who they are, but just something they do when it’s convenient.

This is not faith at all and, in fact, these people are likely not really even Christians at all. Now I know that may sound judgmental, but lets take a look at what God’s word says, above.

Paul, in the verses above, is instructing the Colossian believers to walk in Him, not just follow some casual kind of belief system. Further, he instructs them to be rooted in Him and established in the faith!

This is definitely more than a casual Sunday morning relationship here.

We often have people write to us, asking us questions about how to draw closer to God or how to hear God’s voice, or even how to know what God’s call or purpose is for them in their life.

And we are always careful to instruct them the same way; Press in to God, spend time in His word and learn of Him. Get to know Him. Doing this will give us a better understanding of who He is and who He wants us to be.

Once we have that understanding, everything else becomes much more clear and easy to understand.

So if you feel like your walk with God is casual, or if you’re struggling to find God’s purpose for your life, root yourself in Him, build yourself up in Him and establish yourself in the faith. If we will take the time and make the effort to do this, so many other things in our lives will eventually fall into place.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-15-14

Matthew 11:28 (NKJV) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Friday I spent the day at the courthouse, trying to help someone I care deeply about. This person made a mistake and acted out on their emotions. There was a part of them that truly thought they were doing the right thing, but they went about it in the wrong way.

How many times do we try to do something with good intentions in our hearts and it backfires on us? I spent all day, going from one courtroom to the other. I came home that day feeling awful, disappointed to some degree, and helpless for that person.

I went to bed early that night, but before falling asleep I thanked God, because in spite of how I felt, I knew God was in the midst of it all.

Did it turn out the way I was hoping for? Nope. We don’t always know how things are going to turn out, but as we pray and trust God, He does what is best for the situation and we have to leave it at that and let God’s plan unfold.

If you are feeling disappointed today, things might not have turned out the way you thought they would, and you are trying to figure out what happened and why, take a few minutes and spend some time, just you and God.

Talk it out with Him. He will hold your hand, help you through and bring understanding.

Rest in Him today, in spite of how your circumstances look.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-13-14

Philippians 4:11-12 (NKJV) 11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: 12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

We all have wants, desires, goals and dreams. We may have career goals… a special field of work where we want to be making our living. Or maybe we want a spouse, someone to spend our life with. There are so many thing we can want or desire.

And these things can all be good. There’s nothing wrong with having these dreams and desires.

Sometimes, though, we can tend to get ahead of ourselves and ahead of God with some of our dreams and goals. We know where we want to be and we want to be there right now.

But there are different seasons in our lives and we need to be careful to move within the season where God has us at this moment in time, not too soon or too late. If we get ahead of God or fall behind Him we can miss out on the blessings and the lessons He has for us right here, right now.

So if your career isn’t quite where you want it to be right now, seek God. Ask Him if you’re where you need to be. Maybe that next step up the ladder is just around the corner but He wants us to learn to be satisfied and content where He has us right now before He lets us move on.

Maybe our future wife or husband is waiting for us too, but there are things that God is working out before we get to be with them.

Be content in all things. Trust God. Then and only then will He allow us to move on to the next season!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-12-14

Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV) 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Pastor Ellie and I were talking today. I was sharing with her about some things that I had seen had been done by some Christians that were really not godly at all, but rather hateful.

This particular group of believers had made some very derogatory statements about a nation and its people.

She asked me “how can they be Christians and still think like that?”. I pondered on it for a moment and I heard God say “because there is still a part of them that they have not surrendered to Me yet”.

And so it is with so many of us. We follow Christ and we live our lives as believers… Christians. But there are still little pieces of our lives that we haven’t given over to God and allowed Him to touch or change.

Think about some of the things that we see some Christians continue to do for years after they become followers of Christ and are washed in His blood.

Racism, sexual immorality, drunkenness, thievery, dishonesty and the list can go on. You see, if we are still engaging in these things habitually, on a regular basis, it’s only because we have refused to let God change that part of us.

So we challenge you today to let God check you. Let Him peek into the deepest, darkest recesses of your heart and show you what’s there.

And then let Him touch you there and begin to root that evil thing out of you once and for all.

There’s not a single one of us who doesn’t have something that we have held onto, and today’s a good day to let it go, in the name of Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-11-14

Galatians 3:26-28 (NKJV) 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Christ came to save us. He didn’t come to divide us.

If we are in Christ, a believer, a follower, then we are His body. We were not meant to be divided by differences of opinion. We were not meant to be divided by denominations. We were not meant to be divided by race, gender or social status.

We were and are meant to be one body, in unity, following the leading of the Holy Spirit in all things.

There are so many things that can come between us as believers. And, sadly, many things have come between us. The body of Christ is splintered, fragile and weak. And even more sad is the fact that much of our weakness is self-inflicted.

Why? Because too many of us are spiritually weak and uninformed. We don’t know much beyond the basics when it comes to doctrine. And because of this, we fall prey to every new wind of change that comes along in today’s churches.

And before we know it, we’ve drifted away from our one true love, chasing instead, after some new teaching that promises us a fast path to spirituality, a way to feel better about ourselves or even an overflowing bank account.

We need God’s forgiveness in the worst way.

People of God, let’s stop the nonsense and get right with our Creator right here and right now and let’s push aside the silly stuff we’ve been chasing after and chase the one true God, Yaweh, Elohim, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-10-14

Jeremiah 1:6-8 (NKJV) 6 Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”7 But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. 8 Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord.

Do you ever feel like sometimes God is prompting you to say something or do something for Him, but you are too afraid, feeling inadequate?

Maybe you think you are going to mess it up. Maybe you’re afraid it won’t come out right.  Well, you are not alone; Jeremiah had similar feelings. He had his excuses too. We all do.

There is nothing wrong with us feeling this way. We just can’t let it stop us from doing what God wants us to do. When God asks us or prompts us to do something for Him, He plans on doing it through us. He is there to help us. He will not leave us on our own, to use our own natural ability. He will give us what we need and He will deliver us.

Don’t be afraid. Take a stand and do what He is asking you to do even if you are scared of how it might turn out. Do it anyway. Trust Him to guide you and deliver you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-9-14

1 Corinthians 7:3 (NKJV) 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.

In the verse above, Paul is specifically addressing married couples. He is also speaking specifically about physical (sexual) affection. But today I want to speak about more than just sexual intimacy.

There are many, many married couples who’s relationships are way out of balance due to a lack of attention on the part of one or both of the members of the relationship.

This can be in both the emotional and the physical (non-sexual) aspects of your relationship. Sometimes couples just get too busy with their lives and their routines each day to remember to stop and take the time to show their spouse how much they love them and how much they mean to them.

Other times, a person may be irritated or annoyed with their spouse about something, and instead of discussing it and resolving a problem, they withhold their attention and affection from them. Sometimes this is done inadvertently, whereas other times some people may do this as a sort of punishment.

Either way, this needs to be fixed!

If we are married, our relationship with our spouse should be second only to our relationship with God. After God, our marriage comes first, before anything else, even before our children (if we have any). And especially before our jobs or our hobbies.

So I urge you today, if you’re married, obey God. Honor your spouse by giving them the attention they deserve. Don’t put it off. Don’t wait for tomorrow. We are not promised a tomorrow.

Love them. Hug them. Hold them. Show them and tell them how much they mean to you. Your relationship can only get better if you follow God’s leading!

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-8-14

James 5:13 (NKJV) 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

We can all agree that prayer is powerful! It is the power that Jesus Christ has given to each believer; those who have put their faith and trust in Him, repenting of their sins and following Him. When we’ve done this, we now have that power living in us.

We can communicate through the Holy Spirit to the Father on a daily basis, multiple times a day. That is Amazing!

What is it today that is concerning us? Is it the economy? Is it the children that are hungry and dying of sickness and starvation? Is it the many abortions that take place each day? Is it the illnesses and diseases that are taking peoples lives? Or is it the direction the world is heading, etc? Maybe it’s all of these things and more. These concerns are legitimate.

But there is good news! It is the power of prayer that pushes back darkness and it is the power of prayer that brings healing and deliverance and we have that power living in us!

Let us pray for the things that concern us and don’t stop believing for God to answer those prayers!  Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-6-14

Job 1:1 (NKJV) 1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.

Today, we’d like to tell you a story. This is a story about a man who lost everything he had. He was a very wealthy man. The loss that he incurred was no fault of his own.

He was a righteous man who loved God and honored Him in everything he did. Even while he was worshiping God and honoring Him, severe calamity stuck and in a matter of a few hours, he lost all of his earthly possessions and every, single one of his children. The only family member who remained was his wife.

Job went from what most people would consider to be the ideal life, to complete devastation, in less than 24 hours, without doing a single thing wrong, and with no warning whatsoever.

Maybe you’re reading this today and you can relate to this. Maybe you’ve been going through a severe trial. Maybe you’re in the midst of a famine right now. The well has run dry and you don’t know where to turn or how you’re going to survive.

Maybe you’ve lost someone who was very close or dear to you and you don’t know why it happened or how you’re going to make it through without them.

Take heart. We’re here to tell you that what you’re going through is only for a season. Seasons come and seasons go. None of them last forever. Yes, sometimes they can seem like they last forever, but they truly don’t.

Job endured extreme hardship and yet he chose to bless God and worship Him in the midst of it all, even while covered in excruciatingly-painful sores. He had people telling him to just give up, curse God and die. And yet he chose to ignore them and worship God anyway.

What will we do in the midst of our hardships and trials? What will we do while we’re mourning the loss of a loved one? We have to choose. Yes, we are human and we are allowed to mourn. It’s part of how God made us.

But when the time comes to pick ourselves up and get moving, we better do just that! It may take us some time to get back on our feet, but God will give us strength and help us, if we let Him.

What’s awesome, though, is how the story of Job turned out, after all of the intense persecution and incredible loss.

Job 42:10 (NKJV) 10 And the Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

So don’t give up! Hold onto God and let Him be your source. Let Him be your light during this dark time.

This season of trials and turmoil won’t last forever. Let Him lead you out, and bless Him even in the midst of it all.

Bible Verse of The Day – 9-5-14

Exodus 16:35 (NKJV) 35 And the children of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land; they ate manna until they came to the border of the land of Canaan.

The Israelite’s goal was to reach the promised land. We will all have goals to reach, but there are things to be careful of when trying to reach them.

The Israelites were so focused on getting to the promised land that they missed God’s blessings on the journey. Instead of being thankful, at times they complained.

God fed them manna for forty years. This manna was bread from Heaven.

John 6:31 (NKJV) 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’

That is a huge blessing, and not just for one day but for forty years.

Numbers 11:9 (NKJV) 9 And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

Every night this took place! That’s something to see and be thankful for! But yet their eyes were so focused on the promised land, the end result, that they missed out on the blessings and miracles that God did for them along the way.

One of the things I had to learn was that while trying to reach my God-given goals, that I do not forget to enjoy the journey and the blessing on the way.

Enjoy the journey and celebrate when you reach your goal!! Amen.
