Bible Verse of The Day – 6-17-14

(Luke 16:13 NKJV)  “No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

Even though work may take a lot of our time during the days, we can’t let it rule us. We need to remain balanced. We need to take time for God, family, church, and rest!

Life is more than how much money we have, how big our home is, what kind of car we drive and how much we travel.

God made life to be simple, but yet exciting, fun and enjoyable! We can not serve money and serve Him. We have to pick and choose who and what we want to serve.

We can tell what we serve by watching and seeing how much time we give to it, physically or mentally. We are not talking about a normal day’s work, but all the thinking and working that goes into it after hours.

Are we always thinking about how much more we can make? Does it take up all of our time, thinking and planning? Are all of our thoughts constantly on the one thing, money?

Or do we spend time even when we are at work, acknowledging God and how He would have us handle certain situations, making sure that when we do something, people will see Him and know that we are Christians?

If we choose God, and put Him first, He takes care of the rest!

(Matthew 6:33 NKJV)  “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

If we choose mammon, God’s word tells us how hard it is.

(Matthew 19:24 NKJV)  “And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

Who do we choose today? If we choose God, we need to give Him our time, money, efforts, thoughts and love!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-16-14

Psalm 139:1-3 (NKJV) 1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.

God knows you. He knows you better than you know yourself.

He made you to be unique, like nobody else.

He doesn’t want you to be someone else’s clone. He doesn’t want you to mimic anyone else. He doesn’t want you to idolize anyone else.

God has put things in you that He hasn’t put in anyone else. He has given you skills and talents that nobody else has.

God wants you to be you. He wants you to be who He made you to be. He doesn’t want you to spend your time trying to be like your best friend, your mother, father or sibling. He doesn’t want you to emulate or imitate a famous musician or a movie star.

Are you seeing this yet? Is God speaking to you right at this moment? Listen to His voice. Follow His leading.

Take some new steps today to being who God made you to be. Let Him show you exactly who YOU are and then be that person.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-14-14

(1 Kings 3:5 NKJV)  At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, ” What shall I give you?”

Solomon knew he could not judge the people with his own understanding. He wanted God’s help. So Solomon requested God’s understanding.

(1 Kings 3:9 NKJV)  “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”

Solomon’s heart was in the right place in asking this and it pleased God.

(1 Kings 3:10 NKJV)  The speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.

Have we asked God for His understanding and wisdom in any given situation?

Asking God for His understanding in discerning situations, relationships, job opportunities, in our marriage, leading a church, raising our children,  etc., is very important.

(1 Kings 3:11-13 NKJV)  Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, {12} “behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. {13} “And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days.

We need God’s understanding if we want His victory in every area of our lives and in every situation we encounter. This is the heart of God for us!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-13-14

James 4:10 (NKJV) 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.

Humility.

It’s something most of us never realize that we’re lacking, until our pride causes us to come crashing down.

Only after we’ve fallen do we see where we’ve been prideful.

Only after we’ve fallen do we see how pride has crept into our lives and caused us to stray from the path that God had set before us.

It happens to all of us at one time or another and in varying degrees. We can become prideful over little things or big things. Either way, pride leads to a fall.

Did you know that God resists the proud? That’s pretty heavy duty stuff. He literally opposes prideful people.

1 Peter 5:5 (NKJV) Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

The scripture above mentions young people, but this verse applies to everyone, regardless of age or gender. God really does oppose the proud.

So do we want God to be opposed to us? I know I don’t!

So let’s ask God to show us where we’re prideful. Lets ask Him to help us change and get rid of our pride and arrogance.

Let’s give God permission to root this out of us and create in us a clean heart, one that stays humble and childlike in his sight.

Psalm 51:10 (NKJV)10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-12-14

(Hebrews 10:23 NKJV)  Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

Death is a hard thing for the mind to comprehend. To think that someone can actually be here in front of us talking, walking, laughing, and breathing one minute and be gone the next, with no life left in them at all, is beyond our understanding. Some people can get stuck trying to figure it all out. They can never get past it and they stop living because they get so hung up on it.

My mother-in-law died of cancer at the very young age of 46. During her last 24 hours of life, she had been in and out of seizures and could barely speak. But right before she left us, she made sure we were all in the room. She came out of her seizure. She was alert and said pretty clearly, “it’s time for me to go now, don’t cry, I love you. Goodbye.”

We stood there and watched her take her last breath. One tear rolled down her cheek and she was gone. We were never to speak to her again, never to hear her voice, her laughter, her cry or to feel her touch again.

We knew she was with the Lord and He gave her the strength and alertness to say one last thing to us and we were very grateful. It meant so much to know she was safely in His arms and we didn’t have to watch her suffer anymore.

But it can still be hard at times, when you lose someone. You miss them terribly and it’s hard to comprehend what really took place. You wonder what they’re doing and where they’re at. No one has perfect answers to these questions because no one really knows exactly, except for God Himself.

It’s in those moments that we don’t understand or comprehend it all, that we have to trust God and His promise to us and rest in knowing that He is faithful. Our hope is in HIM!!

(Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV)  He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

Trust Him with your loved one today. Enjoy your life. it’s OK to move on. They are safe and we can rest knowing that God is faithful!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-11-14

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

The peace of God. It’s something that nobody can really explain.

But when we are in the midst of trials, we can actually have peace that doesn’t make sense to our human minds.

During the past couple of years we had been going through some pretty tough trials. There were days when it felt like the wind had been knocked out of us. Sometimes it wasn’t just one day, but many days in a row.

Our world felt like it was upside down.

But in the midst of it all, even when our emotions tried to get the best of us, we had peace.

We can’t really explain it, but we had peace… a knowing inside us that God was in control and that everything would somehow turn out OK.

And it did.

There were decisions that we had to make, and some of the choices we made might have seemed odd to the undiscerning person. But God’s Spirit was at work in us and we could make choices that were contrary to common sense and logic and still have peace inside, because we were being led by God and not by our emotions.

So in the midst of your storm, let God lead you. Listen for His voice and heed His instruction. And when you do that, you too can have God’s peace in the midst of your storm; that peace that surpasses understanding.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-10-14

Revelation 21:23 (NKJV)23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.

The Glory of God.

What is it? Do any of us really understand it?

Many times we hear people talking of how the glory of God was present in a church service. They may speak of a great time of worship and how the presence of God was felt in the atmosphere.

We are here today, not so much to question the validity of these claims, but to draw attention to what God’s word says about His glory.

We dare to say today that very few, if any of us, have ever really experienced the fullness of the glory of God. For if we had, our lives would be forever changed.

The glory of God is like a great weight that falls upon a place, rendering people helpless to stand in His presence.

The glory of God fills a room or an area with things like smoke and great light.

Revelation 15:8 (NKJV) The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power…

So we ask today, have any of us really experienced the glory of God, or have we just had little, tiny tastes of it here and there?

Our prayer today is that the bride of Christ, His church, would open the doors to God’s mighty presence and that we would experience it in its fullness and that our lives would be so changed that we would never accept the counterfeit again. That we would never make claims about His glory being present in a place simply because we had goosebumps and the worship was good.

Church, let’s press into Him and draw so near to Him that we will begin to get an understanding of who He really is and how powerful His glory really is.

If we will do this, our lives will never be the same.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-9-14

(Acts 3:6 NKJV)  Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

This is for someone today that needs to pick themselves up, get out of bed and start over. It’s going to be OK!

It may seem hard and overwhelming because you have come so far and now it’s all gone. You feel like you are back to square one again and you remember the way it used to be, and you never wanted or thought you would go back again to the way things were.

Nobody plans things like this, but it happens. There may have been things we could have done differently and it could have turned out better. Those things, those very things that we know we could have changed, NOW is the time to take those things and what we have learned and put them into practice!

It’s not over…it’s the beginning; a new page, a new day and a new season. We may be starting over, but we have more understanding and more knowledge than ever before.

God doesn’t expect us to not make mistakes. But He does expect us to reach out and grab hold of His hand and walk.

Get up and walk, receive your healing and move forward!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-7-14

(1 Corinthians 13:13 NKJV)  And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Love can’t be bought. If we think we can buy love, we are wrong and if we try to buy it, that love won’t last.

How can we show someone we truly love them?  We can tell them over and over again, and while we may truly love them, love has to be shown as well. Words and money or gifts aren’t enough.

Not too long ago we got rid of our dining room set. One day as I was out poking around in a thrift store, I found a beautiful dining set. It was old and beat up, but I loved it!

It had lots of wear and tear. The fabric was stained and worn. The chairs were wobbly and scratched. But the design was what I had always wanted and I couldn’t find it anywhere else. So, that day I bought that set! I was nervous and thought “what am I getting into”?

My husband dislikes old furniture. He dislikes painting, and he’s uncomfortable working with wood. I knew it was going to take a whole lot of work to refinish this set, but I loved it!

This set meant a lot to me, but there was a part of me that was afraid; afraid that I would not get to see this set finished, as I had envisioned it.

A short time later, we had a rainy day and we were stuck inside. My husband and I didn’t have any specific plans for the day, so went out into the garage where the set had been waiting to be repaired.

As we thought about what to do with it, I thought he would say,” take it to the dump.” But instead he came up with a brilliant idea and got out his tools and started working on it!

That day in the garage, we worked together. I did what I knew how to do and he did what he knew how to do and that set started to take on a whole new look.

We finished that set after a whole week of sanding, painting, reupholstering, and tightening things up… it was beautiful!

We did it together. We took something old, ugly and beat up and made it fresh, new and beautiful!

It touched the innermost part of my heart because he took the time to help me, even though it wasn’t something he particularly liked doing.

Touch someone’s heart today. “Put away your dime and give them your time”.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-6-14

1 Samuel 15:22 (NKJV) So Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.”

Obedience is better than sacrifice. There’s a lot more to this little phrase than most people realize.

God requires certain things of each of us. There are specific things that He asks or tells us to do or not to do.

Sometimes we get things a little mixed up in our heads and try to go one step better than God, thinking that maybe our way is a bit better than His.

And while our intentions might be good, this isn’t pleasing to God, even if our way requires a sacrifice of some kind.

God wants our obedience, not our sacrifice.

Back in the days of Samuel and David, they would literally sacrifice an animal in honor of God, as a form of worship. We don’t do this any longer, but sometimes we will sacrifice other things in an effort to show God how loyal we are.

But this is exactly the kind of thing that God doesn’t want. It’s not that He doesn’t like us to sacrifice, it’s just that He prefers us to obey Him, rather than to add our own little twist into what He’s told us to do.

So if God is telling us to do something, we need to do it! We shouldn’t add to it or take away from it.

We just need to do it His way. After all, it’s a pretty sure bet that He knows more than we do.

Bible Verse of The Day – 6-5-14

(Luke 17:15-18 NKJV)  And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, returned, and with a loud voice glorified God, {16} and fell down on his face at His feet, giving Him thanks. And he was a Samaritan. {17} So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine? {18} “Were there not any found who returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

Giving thanks and glorifying God for what He has done for us, and continues to do for us, means a great deal to Him!

We may think that because He has a whole world to take care of that He may not even notice whether or not we tell Him thank you for the things He may do for us or the things He has already done for us. But He does pay attention to these things. It never get’s old for Him.

We never know. We may start thanking Him in the midst of our storm and healing may come, a financial breakthrough might be released, a family member may be saved, the job opportunity that we have been praying for may open up, etc.

He loves it when we give Him Glory, Honor and Praise!

Being thankful and letting Him know that we know He is the One that will bring forth Victory, that He is the One that will make it possible, makes Him happy.

Take the time we need to today and thank Him! Glorify Him! Oh for HE is Good!!

Amen.
