Bible Verse of The Day – 5-31-14

Psalm 30:2 (NKJV) O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me.

God is our healer. I am living proof.

When I was 7 years old I was diagnosed with asthma, a disease that doctors will tell you is incurable.

It can be managed, they say, but it can never be cured.

I struggled with asthma for 30 years, letting it steal my joy and prevent me from enjoying some of the physical activities I liked to participate in.

Then one day I had a revelation. God revealed to me, through another man of God, that asthma wasn’t a physical ailment so much as a spiritual one. It was caused by the enemy, the father of lies.

He told me that I could be set free. I believed it. For the first time in 30 years, I knew what was going on inside of me. And I knew that I was about to be set free.

The man of God laid his hands on me and spoke some very simple words; “you foul thing, leave in the name of Jesus”.

That was all it took. God did a work. I fell to the floor and for the next 30 minutes I went through a deliverance, and my asthma was forever gone.

That was 14 years ago. I can now do whatever I want… run, bike, laugh, mow the lawn, you name it. Asthma no longer has a place in my life.

And here’s the best part. If He did it for me, He can do it for you. I’m not special. I don’t deserve the healing any more than the next person, but God saw fit to deliver me and heal my lungs.

I had a revelation that night. My faith shot through the roof and God new that I was ready.

It’s our faith that makes us whole. Believe and receive.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-30-14

Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) 18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Pride is a very destructive thing. Pride can cause us to do things that we would never dream of doing.

Pride can bring such destruction to our lives if we don’t deal with it before it takes us out.

If all of us were to look back on the problems we’ve had in our lives, we could probably trace many of them to pride and/or arrogance (haughtiness).

Pride causes us to become unteachable. It causes us to think we are above correction. And any time we start thinking that we don’t need correction, we’re in serious trouble.

Many times we don’t see the damage that pride can do until it’s too late. It’s usually after we have been through a major trial in our lives that it becomes evident to us that it was caused by our pride.

Then and only then will we be able to admit that we could possibly have done some things differently which might have helped us avoid some of the trials in our lives.

Ask God where you’re prideful. Be open to His feedback. Don’t just ask Him and then refuse to hear what He has to say.

We can all use a good humbling once in a while. It keeps us on track and helps us grow.

We just have to want to grow.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-29-14

Philippians 2:3 (NKJV) Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.

This is huge. If we could all live like this, there would be far less problems in our lives.

There are so many angles that this can be looked at from, but today let’s look at it from a marriage point of view.

We hear from a lot of people who are going through marital problems of varying degrees. They are caused by a lot of different things, but there is almost always one root to all of these problems; selfish ambition (self-centered thoughts and actions).

Sometimes these self-centered actions are unintentional and well-intentioned, but other times there is no consideration whatsoever for the other party in the marriage.

One of the things that we always tell couples who come to us for counsel is that they need to take their eyes off of what their spouse has done wrong and ask God what it is that they need to change about themselves. Where have they fallen short in the relationship?

It’s always important to know where we stand when it comes to how we are carrying out God’s commands in our own life. And if both people in a marriage (or any relationship) would live this way, there would be no divorces, ever.

But humanity being what it is, some people just can’t seem to get an understanding of this. And, sadly, there are some that just plain don’t want to.

So if you’re in a marital crisis today, start asking God where you can change, where you may have fallen short and what you can do to help fix the relationship. Start walking out what He shows you. Start living it sincerely because you truly want to change, not just because you want to win your spouse back.

Your spouse may or may not respond to these changes. That’s entirely their choice. But know in your heart that when you follow God’s leading and walk in His ways, you are pleasing Him.

We pray for God’s blessings over your marriage, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-28-14

Romans 1:20-21 (NKJV) 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

I love being outdoors. There’s nothing quite like taking in the beauty of God’s creation and all of its wonders.

Here in the northeast USA, where we live, we are now moving from Spring into Summer. In the past three weeks, the trees have gone from bare and gray to lush and green, and flowers are popping out everywhere. It’s really a beautiful thing to see happen.

The sounds of the birds each day and the sight of them hurrying around, building their nests and feeding their young just adds another dimension to it all that makes it that much more pleasant.

All of this natural beauty just yells and shouts a huge testimony for the power of our God, the Creator. Creation itself is enough proof of The Creator, so that no person anywhere has any excuse to deny His existence or His power and might.

Take a minute today to stop and really soak in the beauty of the world around us. Even if you live in a city, where there isn’t much to look at such as trees or forests, look up! The sky itself is so incredibly awesome.

Take this all in and thank Him for His wonders. It only takes a minute!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-27-14

(James 1:26 NKJV)  If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

Watching our words constantly is a big part of how people will determine if we are truly God’s or not. If we can’t control our words and our language with Christ living in us, then how are we any different than the non-Christian?

There should be a huge difference between the way a non-believer and a believer talks. We should be an example when we are around them. They should be learning something from us even if we aren’t saying anything at all; our actions should be speaking volumes.

Remember as we step out today, people are watching us. They are listening. We don’t need to be up on a platform to be heard or have a microphone in front of us. They watch all the time.

Hold our tongue today wherever we go and may we make a difference in someone’s life today.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-26-14

Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Are you a believer, a follower of Jesus Christ? Have you been washed by His blood? Have you put your faith in Him and the sacrifice He made for us on the cross?

If you answered “yes” to these questions, I want to tell you something. Some of you may already know this, but some of you may be surprised.

We are in a war.

I’m not talking about a war of guns or bombs. This is not a war of knives, spears, chains or any other kind of “natural” war. We are in a spiritual war.

Every single minute of every day there is a war being fought. We don’t see it in the natural. But it’s happening nonetheless. The spiritual world is one of constant battles. They are being waged and fought on so many fronts across the entire world.

And we are a part of that war, whether we realize it or not. Satan and his demons fight for our souls. They fight to tear down everything that God has done to secure our eternal future. They fight to destroy us, both physically and spiritually.

As followers of Christ, we are also soldiers. Or at least we should be. We have been enlisted to do battle with the enemy and keep him in check while we’re here on this earth.

So we need to take this war seriously. We need to understand it and we need to know what part we play in it and what God wants of us. We need to be good soldiers!

2 Timothy 2:4 (NKJV) No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

So ask God today what role He wants you to play in this war. What does He want you to do each day? Who can you pray for? Who can you encourage? What powers of darkness does He want you to rebuke and bind?

There are so many things we need to be busy doing as a soldier for Christ in God’s army.

We can’t take this lightly. It’s serious warfare.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-24-14

Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV) Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us…

We are all running a race. It’s a very long race and there are so many things that can try to keep us from finishing it.

Things come at us from every direction. Sometimes they’re things that we never expect and it catches us off guard.

But we need to run this race with endurance. Endurance requires strength. We have to work to build and develop endurance. It doesn’t just happen because we want it to.

In this race called life, there is one way to build our endurance and one source for it. The way we build it up is by pressing into God and becoming one with Him in our spirit. And He is our source. He is where we get our strength from.

There are many of you reading this right now who are weary and tired. You’ve been in a long battle and you feel like you want to give up. But we’re here to tell you that victory will come if you don’t give up.

There are still others reading this who are just now beginning a battle. You’re afraid and worried what might happen to you. You don’t know how it will all turn out.

But we say to you, cling to God and keep your faith intact. This battle will not be your demise if you keep your faith strong and hold fast to God.

There are many things that come at us during our lives. How we fare during those tough times will always depend on our attitude and our ability to trust God.

Let’s make sure we keep our faith strong.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-23-14

(Psalm 37:3 NKJV)  Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

What is it in us that makes us feel like we have to know that everything is going to work out ahead of time?

For me it gives me relief and a sense of peace, knowing that it’s all going to work out according to my figures, understanding, ideas, arrangements etc.

I don’t like surprises that throw me off my plan or my budget. Really, is there any room for God to move or work in this kind of realm? From my experience, I have to say “No, there is not!” If we don’t let God in, then we are on our own.

This is where I needed to learn that if I want to see God move in my situation, I need to leave some room for Him to do whatever He may want to do. I do this by being open and flexible with my plan.

These two words, open and flexible, didn’t used to be in my vocabulary. When someone gave me something to do, there was no flexibility or openness for change. I just wanted to get it done with my own understanding and experience.

But over time I learned that I had to step back and settle down and put my ideas, agenda, and plans before God, waiting on Him, of course, to see if He had any suggestions or changes that He wanted to make. That’s when it becomes our plan, not just mine.

What peace I have now that I’ve realized that I don’t always have to have my own plan and it doesn’t have to go my way to work out. There are other ways to get it done, and sometimes ways that I don’t know.

Trust God and feed on His faithfulness. He will come through!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-22-14

(Jeremiah 1:5 NKJV)  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.”

God knew Jeremiah; He had a purpose and plan for his life. There is not one of us that He does not know. It’s up to us to get to know Him and find out His purpose or plan for our life.

When we become His child through salvation, we are made new. We are born again; a new person, with a clean slate.  It’s the beginning of our walk with God no matter what our age is.

One of the questions we need to ask Him is, “what is it Lord that You would have me to do and where do you want me to be”? And we need to remain patient, letting Him guide us, train us and make us into the person He wants us to become and prepare us for the things He wants us to do.

Being responsible, dedicated and trustworthy may sometimes mean giving up doing some things that we’d rather be doing, for the sake of what God has for us to do. It involves waiting on His timing, and waiting for the door to open for whatever it is.  It can be very humbling, but very fulfilling!

When we are doing what the Lord wants us to do, there is peace.

(Proverbs 16:7 NKJV)  When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-21-14

Ecclesiastes 1:14 (NKJV) I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

There are so many things that pull on us, making demands for our time and attention.

Work, hobbies, children, spouses, sports, activities, yard work, housework, and the list can go on and on.

Now, most of these things are necessities. We obviously need to do laundry, clean our house, tend to the children, maintain our yard, etc. But there are many things that we spend time on that are fruitless and, honestly, a waste of our time.

Solomon experienced just about everything there was to experience in life. He had it all and did it all. He had more riches than anyone. He had more women than he knew what to do with. He was admired by everyone around the known world for his wisdom and accomplishments.

But after everything he had experienced and everything he had done, he saw it for what it was; vanity and grasping for the wind.

So let us ask you today, what is your time spent on? What do we do that is vanity and grasping for the wind?

Are our lives just a repeating sequence of meaningless events? We all need to consider this. We need to take a look at our lives and make sure we’re spending our time on those things that will impact lives for Christ and leave a legacy when our time here on earth is through.

Yes, we can still have a hobby and things that we enjoy, but if our time is spent more on those things than on things that matter for eternity, then we may need to make some adjustments.

Indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-20-14

Acts 4:18 (NKJV) So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

The name of Jesus. That name is despised and hated by the enemy of our soul.

Why? Because that name carries authority over darkness and evil.

By that name, men & women can be saved. By that name, the dead can be raised. By that name, the sick are healed. By that name, demons are cast out. By that name, the lame can walk. By that name, the deaf will hear.

By that name, we have authority over all manner of evil and darkness here on the earth!

Even in the days when Jesus still walked the earth, that name was beginning to be feared because of the authority it carried when spoken. It drove the religious leaders of that day absolutely mad. And I dare to say that it does this today too.

Not long after Jesus ascended to heaven, the Jewish leaders were punishing followers of Christ and forbidding them to teach in the name of Jesus.

Why were they so afraid? Because when believers spoke the name of Jesus, powerful things happened.

Acts 16:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” 18 And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour.

We need to saturate our lives with the name of Jesus!

The name of Jesus shouldn’t be something that we speak once in a while in passing. That name is our weapon against the powers of evil.

As followers of Christ, as we gain an understanding of how powerful His name is, we should be taking steps to make sure it gets spoken as often as it needs to be. That doesn’t mean we have to literally walk around saying His name all day. But we should look for ways to saturate the atmosphere around us with His name.

Play Christian music. Even if we’re not at home we can leave a radio on, playing music that speaks the name of Jesus. It will permeate the atmosphere. It might seem inconsequential, but it really can change the atmosphere in our home.

That name being spoken into the atmosphere can bring change that we don’t even understand, but it is powerful and we can’t ignore it. So don’t overlook the importance of this in your life.

Speak the name of Jesus, and live!
