Bible Verse of The Day – 4-17-14

(Matthew 28:5-6 NKJV)  But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. {6} “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

To know that a perfect Man, a Man that knew no sin, died for me and for you, for our sins is an awesome reason to celebrate.

He sacrificed His precious life for us on that cross, that we may have eternal life with Him.

After He died on the cross He was put in a tomb, and on the third day He rose from the dead. What a Savior!

He is alive…celebrate Jesus today!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-16-14

1 John 5:21 (NKJV) Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

What a simple directive and piece of wisdom to live by.

There are so many things that pull on us each day. There are temptations, lusts, pressures from other people, and the list can go on and on.

So many things can become idols. Most times when we think of idols, we think of tangible things. But other types of things can become idols too. So let’s talk about one of the worst ones.

PRIDE.

Yes, pride can be an idol. Pride can destroy us if we’re not careful. It can cause us to do things that we know we shouldn’t do, just to impress people or to keep up appearances among those that know us.

Pride can hurt people very badly. It can hurt us, that’s true for sure, but it can cause great harm to those we come into contact with on a regular basis too. Here’s a true story to demonstrate this. I’ll try to keep it short.

Someone we know was at someone else’s house, giving them a haircut. The haircut was finished and the person getting the haircut was talking with the other person. In the middle of a sentence, she stopped talking and froze in place. She didn’t move, not even a little. She didn’t respond to anything at all, but just sat there completely still and unresponsive.

The person who had cut her hair tried to get her to respond, but it was useless. So she called the woman’s daughter, but got no answer. She then called 911 and told them to send an ambulance immediately.

After calling the ambulance, she called the lady’s husband and told him he needed to get home right away. Shortly thereafter, the woman came out of the seizure she was having and picked up where she left off, like nothing had happened. In fact, she pretended nothing had happened at all.

The ambulance showed up and the lady who had had the seizure told the medics that she was fine and it was a mistake… that they should never have been called. The husband also vouched for her and told them that they should never have been called.

At some point not long after the ambulance left, the woman who had suffered the seizure made a comment about worrying about what the neighbors might think. And the person who had called the ambulance was made to feel like they should never have done so, hurting her feelings pretty badly. She was, after all, only doing what she thought was the right thing to do.

Pride kept these people from treating the other person respectfully. Pride caused them to say things that caused her to feel belittled. This idol, pride, caused them to be more worried about what the neighbors might think than about the person who had tried to help.

So, little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-15-14

Galatians 1:8 (NKJV) But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.

There are many “gospels”. There are so many messages that are preached and taught throughout the world. Sometimes it can be tough to filter out the “noise” and find the real thing.

But it’s super important that we know what we’re being taught. And we need to make sure it’s not “another gospel”.

So how do we know? How do we take what we hear and figure out if it’s the truth, a lie or just a twisted variation of the truth?

We measure it using God’s ruler. And what is God’s ruler? His word!

As followers of Christ, it’s very important that we take everything we hear and filter it through God’s word. We need to compare it to what God’s word actually says, not what we think it says.

If we do this, we will find ourselves being amazed at how many things we thought God’s word said, only to find that it’s not in there! It can be very eye-opening and revealing to see those things that we believed for so many years, just because someone spoke them, be torn down to expose the truth.

So when you find yourself saying something and repeating it as truth from God’s word, we’d like to challenge you to check it out. Verify that it’s really “in the book”. Make sure it’s truth, and not just a fragment of truth that has been handed down over the years.

It’s worth the effort.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-14-14

(John 15:13-14 NKJV)  “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. {14} “You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

One of the little children next door to us sat in their yard looking bored and lonely, watching me out in my yard. I waved and they waved back.

We have met the family and talked with them from time to time since they recently moved into the neighborhood. I motioned for them to come over. I thought maybe they’d like to keep me company while I washed my car. I had a lot of things I wanted to get done that day. But, I slowly began to change my plans for this child.

After cleaning my car and pretending to eat soap pies that they made me and charged me $100.00 each for, we moved from one thing to the next. They slowly started to lighten up as we were talking, laughing, having popcorn fights and raking in the yard.

Before I knew it, hours had passed by, and all that I had planned to do had left me. It was no longer a priority.

It was time for the child to go home and they didn’t want to leave. We had such fun. Even though I had things I wanted to get done, it was good for me as well.

I don’t know if I’ll ever get another chance to spend time with them, but I know our time together was meaningful on this day. We enjoyed each other’s company.

After they had gone home, I realized they had left their gloves behind at our house. So as I went to return them, their other sibling yelled to them, “Your friend is here!”

Jesus calls us His friend if we follow Him, if we obey Him and do the things He would like us to do.

He loves quality time with us and though we may have many things planned throughout each day, sometimes we need to put them aside and enjoy the friendship we have with Jesus.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-12-14

2 John 1:3 (NKJV) 3 Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love.

To all of you today, we pray this scripture over your lives.

We pray that God’s mercy and peace will be with you and will reign over you, in the name of Jesus.

The world is a tumultuous place, but with God peace can still be found, no matter what’s happening around us.

So, starting today, let God’s peace take precedence over the chaos and confusion that’s trying to overtake you.

And may you find rest in Him.

We pray for God’s mightiest blessings over your lives.

We love all of you very much.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-11-14

Hebrews 2:9 (NKJV) But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.

Jesus tasted death for everyone.

Everyone would include you, and me. It would include the sinner and the saved, the lost and the found.

It would include the pastor and the drug addict, the prostitute and the choir director.

It would include the church janitor and the pimp, the drug lord and the worship leader.

There isn’t a single person who has ever lived, or who will ever live, who isn’t included in this.

He tasted death so that He could defeat death. He tasted death so that we might have life, forever.

Sometimes we all need to be reminded of these things, for our own sake, and for the sake of others around us or those we might come into contact with each day.

So remember, today, as you go through your daily routine, that He tasted death for every last one of us. And every last one of us owes Him our life.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-10-14

(Psalm 71:8 NKJV)  Let my mouth be filled with Your praise And with Your glory all the day.

Praising God all day takes focus… focusing on Him; watching, paying attention and listening to the things He is doing in our lives.

Some people praise God just in worship service at church. Some people praise God when they get around other Christians and some praise God after they just had a victory in a situation. But David says, let it be all the day.

We praise God in the storm. We praise God when we are out of the storm. We praise God walking down the street. We praise God in the grocery store and we praise God at work.

We praise Him all the Day… wherever we go and wherever we are!! Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-9-14

Matthew 7:1-2 (NKJV) 7 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

Have you ever been unjustly judged? Have you ever been judged by the way you look, something you said or maybe even something you did when you happened to make a poor choice about something?

Sometimes we can do something that causes us to “wear that label” on us for a long time. It can take years to shake that stigma off. And sometimes it never completely goes away.

And it never, ever feels good, does it? Sometimes it feels like it might kill us or destroy us emotionally. Sometimes it might even make us feel like we want to give up and throw in the towel, so to speak.

Well, how about when we do that to someone else? Have we ever judged someone based on what we see on the surface or maybe something we heard from someone else? Have we ever written someone off because we thought they weren’t worth anything?

So how do we think it makes them feel? No better than we feel when it happens to us, right?

OK. So what are we going to do about it? We need to stop judging. We need to start seeing people through the eyes of God, with love and compassion, just as we want people to see us.

We need to remind ourselves of how we feel when people judge us without knowing us or what we’ve walked through in our lives. And then we need to view others with that in mind.

Remember, Jesus died for that person that we’re judging, as much as He died for you and for me. God’s compassion, mercy and forgiveness extend to them just as much as they extend to you and me.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-8-14

(John 8:36 NKJV)  “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

I had a dream last night.

People were being held captive on a boat. The boat and all the people on it were found.

When the boat pulled up to port and they were all walking off it, oh they were so happy! But, I noticed that they were walking funny. They were taking little baby steps.

So I said to the man next to me, “why do they walk like that”? He replied to me, “Because they were in shackles for so long they don’t know how to walk any different.”

You see, the longer we stay in chains the harder it is to break free!

How many of us today has God set free, but yet we still walk as if we have our shackles on? Are we worrying or fearful about what people may think or say about us?

How many of us today can say “God, you have set me free, let’s walk together with a big stride and cover the ground you have for me?”.

We have been set free! There are no more shackles on us. We don’t have to remain as we were. Change needs to come and we need to stop walking like we are still in captivity. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-7-14

(Luke 18:22 NKJV)  So when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

What if Jesus was talking to us today, asking us to sell all that we have, all our material things and give it to the poor? Would we be willing?

Material things are nice, but if we give them too much importance, it can become a problem in our lives known as materialism.

Some people may think that obtaining certain material things makes a statement that they are successful. It may give them a certain level of self esteem, but in reality it does not hold any weight.

People work so hard each day to get to this place in life, only to find out afterwards it was not worth it, and on the way they lost and missed out on the important things in life that meant so much more.

We are fooling ourselves if this is what we believe to be success. Jesus says it is not success, but lack. He said sell it and give it to the poor. Our treasure will be in heaven, and to come and follow Him. That is success right there!

Materialism will steal our joy, and suck the life right out of us.

There is so much beauty in this earth to enjoy that is free. Let God teach us the important things in life as we say no to materialism and yes to His way of living.

Bible Verse of The Day – 4-5-14

John 4:23-24 (NKJV) 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

God wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

This is so important, yet so overlooked these days in the modern church. Worship today seems to have been reduced to a man-made conjuring up of what people hope is God’s presence.

But let me state that if God’s presence was truly as heavy in these modern worship services as it is portrayed to be, most people in that service would fall down under the weight of His glory, not just wave their arms or raise their hands.

God’s presence isn’t something that we should take lightly or try to force to happen. God’s spirit will come when we are ready for Him and when our hearts are prepared for Him.

Don’t take this wrong. I am not throwing stones at how churches worship. Most people in most churches have their hearts in the right place and they want to please God and worship Him in spirit and in truth.

But the church has gotten stuck in a rut and doesn’t know how to find its way out.

So today, we encourage you to stop what you’re doing in your worship time with God. Ask God if you’re really worshiping Him in a way that pleases Him. Check yourself in this area. And if you’re not sure about what you do, ask Him to show you what to do. And He will.

Worship Him in spirit and truth and enjoy His presence.
