Bible Verse of The Day – 11-30-13

(Luke 6:45 NKJV)  “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

If we listen to ourselves (what we say) and watch what we do, we will learn a lot about ourselves. We can discern simply by the language that is used and the deeds that are done. It’s not hard; we just have to pay attention.

Whatever any of us does comes from the abundance of our hearts. If we really want to know about ourselves we just need to watch what we do and listen to what we say.

If there is a lot of negative stuff… mean, nasty, ungrateful things, etc., that we are saying or thinking, we do not want to ignore this behavior in us. Instead, we want to spend time praying and asking God to help us, so we can get to the root of it.

We’re going to find that, just because we ask God into our hearts and we are now born again or Christians, it doesn’t make us perfect. We can not ignore our behavior.

In fact, it should cause us to take a deeper look at ourselves; our actions, words and thoughts, and make us want to work on making the necessary changes on a daily basis, in order to live a life that’s pleasing to God.

Our goal as a Christian or a child of God is to grow and constantly be moving forward with Christ… so that our fruit will be good!  (Luke 6:43 NKJV)  “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit.

It’s all in our heart. What is our hearts saying today?

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-29-13

Ephesians 4:27 (NKJV) nor give place to the devil.

That’s not a very long verse, is it?

But boy does it say a lot! We are not to give place to the devil. What does that mean?

We are not to let the devil have a place in our lives. Not one little, tiny place.

Is that easy to do? Not always. Every second of every day we are faced with making choices.

We have to choose right from wrong. We have to choose whether to give in to temptation or walk away from it. We have to choose whether to say the right thing or the wrong thing. Choices. Lots of them.

But God has commanded us not to give place to the devil. In fact, He has also told us to resist the devil and he will flee from us.

James 4:7 (NKJV) Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

So in the end, we are the ones who ultimately decide whether the devil has a place in our life or not.

Are we to give the devil a place in our lives? No! Is it always easy? No! But can we do it? Yes!

With God’s help and leading we can.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-28-13

2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (NKJV) 6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

God wants us all to give. He wants us to give generously, but He also wants us to give cheerfully!

Have you ever seen someone doing something and the expression on their face tells you that they really don’t like to be doing that? You know by looking at them that they are just going through the motions.

God doesn’t want us to live like this or give like this. He wants us to be passionate about what we do and passionate about what we give!

Just as God doesn’t want us to be lukewarm in our walk with Him, He also doesn’t want us to be “cranky” when we give, whether we’re giving of our time, our labor or our finances.

The key to this is letting God change our heart. If our heart is in the right place with Him, we will have very little trouble doing what we do with His joy showing on our faces.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-27-13

(Matthew 2:11 NKJV)  And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

This verse is talking about the wise men when they found the child. It says they fell down and worshiped HIM. But who was Him? The baby called Jesus.

He was just a baby. He didn’t know what was going on, yet it says they fell down and worshiped Him. Why would they do this?

Because that baby boy was our Savior. He came to set us free from our sins, so we could worship, so we could pray, so we could have a relationship with Him, and that we may have everlasting life!

The other day I was spending time with my grandchildren. I put on a kid’s song and grabbed their stuffed animals and pretended they were all singing to this song, “Our God is an Awesome God!”

To my surprise, my grandson, who is 6 yrs. old, got all serious and he went across the room to an area where there were no toys. He fell on his knees and put his face to the floor and just laid there very still for a few minutes.

He got up and began singing to the song and when the song ended, he said “let’s play it again”! Over and over we played that song. My granddaughter, 5 yrs. old, had her little dolls and she was swaying them to the music, dancing and singing. What a time we had!

We are all blessed in more ways than we realize. Let us take a few minutes to worship Him today!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-26-13

Matthew 5:13 (NKJV) “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.

We are the salt of the earth.

This is pretty significant. Most of us don’t think much of our lives or what kind of an impact we have on those around us.

But Jesus told us that we are the salt of the earth. Salt changes everything it comes into contact with. It adds flavor to food. It preserves things and makes them last.

When we come into contact with people around us, we make an impact on their lives! We can never forget that.

We will either impact them for good or we will impact them for bad. We must choose what kind of an impression we will leave.

Knowing this, let’s let God shape us and mold us into the vessels He wants us to be so our impact is good for the kingdom of God!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-25-13

(Psalm 37:3-4 NKJV)  Trust in the LORD, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

Are we putting our trust in the LORD today? Are we waiting on Him or are we jumping ship?

Maybe we’re waiting on an answer from Him and it isn’t coming quick enough? Are we afraid this ship is going to sink if something doesn’t happen quickly?

He will not let our ship sink! One of our dear friends once told us, “the Captain is on the bridge!” So we need to give Him a chance to come through for us.

If we jump ship every time we get scared, we will never get to experience that.

We need to let Him do what He has to do; some things take a little time.  We need to hold out, dwell in the land and FEED on His faithfulness.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-22-13

Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV) You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart.

This is something that we touch on every now and then. We want to make sure that every single one of us keeps this fresh in our heart and mind.

If we could just get this one right, so many other things would come so much more easily for us all.

If we loved God with all our heart, we would be inclined to want to please Him more. We would want to spend more time communing with Him in prayer and worship.

If we loved God with all our heart, we would make better choices and sin wouldn’t be as big of a problem in our lives. We would make better judgments when it comes to choosing right or wrong.

Some of us have gone astray and left God far behind.

But do you want to know the good news in all of this?

It’s never too late to start!

Let’s ask God to search our hearts and show us where we can improve and where we need to do things differently. If we give Him permission, He will be faithful to show us what we need to know.

Love Him with all your heart.

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-21-13

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV) in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

As each one of us faces the tests and trials that come our way in life, we have to make choices.

First, we have to make choices as to how to handle situations that we’re faced with. Sometimes the choices are easy and other times they can be pretty difficult.

Next, we have to make another choice. We have to choose between being thankful and joyful or being ungrateful and miserable.

Many times we make the choices in the order mentioned above… deciding how to handle a situation first, and then deciding whether we want to be miserable or joyful.

But today I want to suggest that we choose to be thankful first. Then, and only then should we make decisions about how to handle the situation at hand. Because once we have pushed our misery aside and decided to be thankful we are more likely to make wise choices when it comes to finding solutions to the problems we’re facing.

Things look so much better and way less bleak when we give thanks first and then pursue a solution to our problems.

God can bless a thankful person, but will not bless someone who is miserable and ungrateful.

And remember… when we think we have it bad, there is always someone else who has it worse, no matter how big of a pity party we throw for ourselves!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-20-13

(1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 NKJV)  pray without ceasing, {18} in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

This is the will of God for us that we pray and not stop and that we give thanks in EVERYTHING.

This is a good reminder for us because when things are going good in our situations we can have a tendency to relax in our prayer time and even in our being thankful. We can actually get prideful if we are not careful.

God’s will for us is that we not get relaxed in our prayer time, but to stay consistent and continue to be thankful in everything.

Praying without ceasing may seem very hard to do at times, especially if we don’t have a lot going on in our lives that we think needs prayer.

We might not know what to pray for at times, but the Holy Spirit does. If we surrender ourselves to Him in prayer and let Him lead us we shall see much changed!!

Bible Verse of The Day – 11-19-13

1 Kings 19:1-4 (NKJV) 1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.” 3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. 4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, “It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!”

Elijah had just been part of a massive victory over the false prophets of Baal. He had defeated them and then slain over 400 of them. He had seen God move in a completely mighty way as he had called down fire from heaven. God had proven to him that there was nothing for him to fear.

But when Jezebel promised to kill Elijah, he quickly forgot about God’s might and how God had answered his call for fire from heaven. And he ran and hid, fearful for his life!

Elijah was undoubtedly one of the most powerful prophets of God in the entire Bible. Very few others had anywhere near his level of faith. Nor did they do such powerful feats by God’s spirit.

But when Elijah was faced with fear, he ran like a scared child and he hid.

So let me ask you today; have we ever run and hid when we were fearful? Have we ever forgotten about the might and the faithfulness of God and just run away? Every single one of us can probably shout a resounding “yes“!

So now let me share something with you. During those times when our faith might have wavered and we hid ourselves, God never left us. He wasn’t surprised and He wasn’t ashamed of us.

So if you have ever hidden because of fear or a lack of faith, don’t beat yourself up over it.

After Elijah hid, God went to him and spoke to him. God set him straight and set his feet on the right path again, and Elijah went on to do other powerful feats by God’s spirit.

So if a mighty man of God hides and God isn’t ashamed of him, how much less should we be ashamed of our times of weakness?

Be still, and know that He is God, and rest in His hands. You are safe there.
