Bible Verse of The Day – 7-18-13

Hebrews 10:38 (NKJV) Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.”

The just shall live by faith. We probably hear this all the time, but what does it mean?

This isn’t necessarily a call to “super Christendom”. It’s a call from our Creator to look to Him for everything we need in this life and the life beyond.

It’s a word from our Father, telling us to push forward, even when our mind can’t comprehend how.

It’s a loving Father taking us by the hand and picking us up when we fall down, brushing the dirt off of us and nudging us to get up and try again.

And it’s a look from a firm Daddy, letting us know that anything less than faith displeases Him.

God never expects perfection from us. He just wants us to trust Him with everything in us and let Him lead us, every single step of the way.

It’s not always easy to do, but reach out, take His hand and let Him show you the next step to take.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-17-13

(John 14:26 NKJV)  “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

There are times in life when material things can help us to get over a hump or past a particularly rough time that we might be going through. For instance, sometimes when we are bummed out, we might go watch a movie, or go out to lunch with some friends. Even shopping or a nice day out on the boat, etc., will help us at times.

The problem with material things is that they can only help to a certain degree. But in order to get rid of troublesome things that keep coming back, we need to get to the root of the problem and make some changes.

Change will take time and effort to make it happen and some days we may even ask ourselves, did we do the right thing?

God gave us a very special person to help us in matters like these. In fact, He will teach us in all things, and He will remind us if we forget. This person is the Holy Spirit.

This Helper can do more for us than any human can do and He will not leave us if we mess up or if we don’t get it right the first time, or even the second or third time.  He doesn’t give up on us. We just need to be sure we don’t stop listening to Him.

Ask the Holy Spirit to be your Helper today and help you to get to the root of things that keep trying to bring you back to the same place over and over again.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-16-13

(Galatians 5:17 NKJV)  For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.

You know the feeling you get on the inside, when you know you’ve done something wrong and you hope it goes away, but it doesn’t? It keeps on prodding you until you do what’s right. It’s like a struggle between good and evil taking place on the inside of you.

This is the feeling of war, and it is very draining. These are things we don’t ignore but, instead, press in to God and find out what is going on if we don’t know.

Our flesh will try to get its own way 100% of the time. But just so we all know, the flesh is not what Christian’s should follow. (Galatians 5:24 NKJV)  And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

The flesh is what we walked in before we knew God. But after we’ve received Him as our Savior, we need to crucify the flesh and all of its wrong desires, and let God’s Spirit lead us.

If there is a war going on inside of us today, we need to figure out what we are doing wrong. When we crucify the flesh, the Spirit will lead us and peace will come. This is a hard one to do because at times we like what the flesh likes.

Remember… we don’t always do what we wish to do, we do what is RIGHT.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-15-13

James 4:7 (NKJV) Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

In everything about our lives, God has given us the freedom to choose.

We have the privilege of choosing right or wrong. We have the privilege of choosing to follow God’s leading for our lives or not.

We have the freedom to choose how we spend our time. We have the freedom to choose how we spend our money.

So the question today is this: Are we honoring God with our decisions and our choices?

Some things are so basic and pretty easy to figure out. But some choices are a little tougher. Sometimes we have to seriously stop and ask God “which choice will please you?”.

Much of what we decide is related directly to where we’re at in our walk with God. The depth of our relationship with Him will greatly effect the choices we make.

Sometimes what might seem like the most straight forward decision to make can be much more intricate when we seriously consider how God would want us to carry something out. Despite the fact that common sense plays a huge part in a lot of our decisions, sometimes God’s “logic” will fly in the face of human logic.

This might seem to be confusing at first, but as we press into God and submit ourselves to Him, and learn His ways and what He wants for our lives, it will begin to become more clear. And as each decision or choice comes along, it will become easier and easier for us to make “God” decisions versus “good” decisions.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-13-13

Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb.

Who is this “him” that they overcame? The enemy of our soul, the devil.

The devil roams the earth, seeking whom he can devour (1 Peter 5:8). Because he came to steal, to kill and to destroy (John 10:10). There is no good in him. He is darkness.

So how do we overcome our most deadly adversary? By the blood of The Lamb and by the word of our testimony!

It’s critical for us to understand that we cannot defeat the devil by natural means. No amount of intellectualism or worldly knowledge can defeat him. But we do have the weapon(s) that we need to overcome him once and for all.

It’s the blood of Jesus. By shedding His blood and giving His life on the cross, Jesus defeated death, hell and the grave once and for all.

And the word of our testimony… what does that mean? It means that we need to be speaking words of life and hope, not death and despair. Our words need to reflect the hope that we have in Jesus. As we speak words of life, we literally drive the enemy back from our presence.

Jesus taught that He came so that we could have life and have it more abundantly. He is and has supplied us with all that we need to have victory in our lives.

We don’t have to live life as a defeated warrior. Let Jesus teach you how to have victory in your life today.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-12-13

(Joshua 7:10 NKJV)  So the LORD said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?

There are times to cry out to God and ask why, what, and how? Then there are times when we need to take action!

Joshua, needed to “get up” and take action, he needed to address the problem that he was crying out about regarding the Israelites.

Sometimes we can spend so much time crying out to God about what is wrong with the picture instead of getting up and dealing with it. Let’s face it, have we ever seen anything get done when we are lying down? Of course not.

Joshua had to get up and deal with the problem. It was good for Him to seek God about it, but it was time now to take action. It was time to stop crying and move on.

Today we need to take care of what it is that is causing the problems in our lives. As we seek God, He will show us how to deal with it.

He will do His part, but if there is something we need to do in the natural, don’t be surprised if, just as He said to Joshua, He says to us “get up” and deal with it. Amen!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-11-13

Romans 3:10 (NKJV) As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;

So often we hear this verse quoted when someone is being led to Christ. It helps them to understand that everyone sins. Nobody is exempt.

Today, let’s look at it from another point of view… as believers and followers of Christ.

If we are a follower of Christ, we have been washed by His blood. Our sins have been forgiven the second we receive Him. This is something that the human mind can’t even begin to comprehend in its fullness. It is a work of God’s spirit… not a work of flesh.

However, sometimes we need to be reminded that we are still sinners who have been washed in His blood. We are not sinless. We have not arrived!

We should not wallow in our sins or be condemned by them, but we do need to stay humble and realize that not a single one of us is perfect or sinless. Not one of us makes it through a day without sinning.

Sometimes it can be easy to forget that “we once were lost but now are found”. And it can become easy to look down our noses at someone who is still lost and trying to find their way, mumbling under our breath about their shortcomings.

1 Corinthians 15:10 (NKJV) But by the grace of God I am what I am…

It is the grace of God that has made us who we are in Christ. It is not our own strengths, skills, talents, intelligence or physical stature. God’s grace. Period. Pretty humbling, isn’t it?

So as we go through the day today, let’s remember where we came from and Who got us to where we are now. And then let’s thank Him for it!

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-10-13

(Isaiah 48:17 NKJV)  Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, The Holy One of Israel: “I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you to profit, Who leads you by the way you should go.

Do we feel like we are always struggling to make ends meet?

It can seem like we come up short every month and have to dip over into our savings or next month’s pay, causing us to be short that month, etc. Well, this way of living is clearly not profiting. This is a sign that we need to see and confess to God that we need help!

God’s Words are truth to our being and when we hear them we need to apply them in order for them to work in our lives. I heard this verse loud and clear. God wants to teach us and help us to profit.

God does not want us to just make ends meet. He wants us to go beyond that, but it will take one very important step; letting Him TEACH us.

What does it mean when someone teaches us? First off we have to realize that need to be taught in whatever area it is that we come up short. We need to submit ourselves and all that we knew how to do, and sit and listen to His ways of doing things.

The problem many of us have is that God will spend time teaching us how to make things right, and then once we are out of the problem we go back to our old ways. This is what causes us to get back into the place we once got out of and the cycle keeps going on and on.

When God teaches us to get out of something… financial debt problems, bad relationships, drug problems, etc., we can’t think that we can just pick things up where we left off after we have gotten out of it, fall back into the same bad habits, and then leave Him behind.

After He gets us out, He wants to teach us how to profit and go beyond what we could ever imagine. He wants to take us to different levels. This way, when He is done with us we will never want to go back to the way we were.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-9-13

(Psalm 107:29 NKJV)  He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.

Are you in a storm today? Are you stuck in a place where you don’t want to be? Do you feel like you are in prison, and you are holding the key to get out but are afraid to make the move?

God’s Peace is amazing! When going through a trial or tribulation (a storm), remember that no matter how big of a wave it is, He will calm that thing down. How does this happen? As we follow His direction, we will feel His peace and that peace will help us to make the right moves.

Not long ago, we were in a trial. We were praying and seeking God and His answer came. It came, but we overlooked it, it was so plain and clear, but not what we were looking for.

Time went on and we tried doing everything we knew to do by our  own understanding…the storm was getting worse and worse, those big nasty waves kept beating on us, the pressure was getting heavier and we were getting weak and tired from the constant beating.

We finally sat back down and asked God, “What are we missing?”, only to hear the same thing He had told us the first time we asked.

He showed us again and we began to take the steps, like He said to do, and His peace was there instantly and things began to work out. The storm was calmed!!

Sometimes we can miss what God is saying to us to do because we feel so strong that it should be done another way. But if we miss it the first time, just get back with Him and repent and ask Him if it’s too late or can we try again to get it right?

There are times we will miss the timing for something, and it doesn’t come back around again. But there are also those times we do get another chance.

We learned that no matter what storm we go through in life, we can still have peace in it as long as we follow God, because He is the “Calmer of the STORM!”

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-8-13

(1 John 5:21 NKJV)  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Idol – representation or symbol of an object of worship or a likeness of something.

There are a lot of things in this world we can worship or really like without even realizing that we are doing it. This verse says to keep yourselves from them.

Why? Because it is easy to fall prey to them and end up worshiping them. God wants us for Himself (Deuteronomy 4:24 NKJV)  “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

We can not worship Him and also worship other things/people as well…it doesn’t work that way.

We have to make sure there is nothing in our hearts that we put before God; nothing that we worship.

Worship – extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem.

How can we tell we are worshipping something or someone? By how much time we devote to it or them.  A lot of times we will give it our everything, all of our time, thought, energy and our money.

Every so often it is good that we check ourselves to make sure we are not putting anything before God.

Bible Verse of The Day – 7-6-13

John 15:5 (NKJV) “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”

Without Him, we can do nothing.

As a follow-up to yesterday’s Bible Verse of The Day, we’d like to use this scripture to complete what was said about us needing to be broken before God before He can use us.

Sometimes this is misunderstood by people or it doesn’t come across in the right way, so here’s a little more for you to take in.

Jesus said that we are to abide in Him and that if we do, we will bear much fruit. He went on to say that if we don’t abide in Him, we can do nothing (for the kingdom of God).

This isn’t any kind of deep spiritual metaphor or symbolism. It’s pretty straight forward with what it says and what it means. If we abide (remain) in Him, we can be used mightily by God. If we don’t, then we can’t be used to a great degree.

In yet another scripture, God’s word tells us that we can do all things through Christ. Philippians 4:13 (NKJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

So as we abide in Him, he empowers us and strengthens us to do the works of the kingdom and bring glory to the Father.

So it’s important that we learn to humble ourselves before Him, confess our sins to Him and then ask Him to work in us to make us who He wants us to be, not who we want to be.

Enjoy your weekend and stay strong in Him!
