Bible Verse of The Day – 5-6-13

(Genesis 1:1 NKJV)  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Have you ever looked around and taken in all of the wonder and beauty of the world that we live in?

I do this often… pretty much every day. I just look in awe at the world around me… the skies, the trees, the ocean, rivers and lakes.

And I look at the creatures… so many beautiful creatures that God created. There are birds with so many different colors, and the sounds that they each make. The different species of fish and the other creatures of the seas are all so diverse and wonderfully made.

I look at the variety of trees and plants and I just shake my head in awe at their awesomeness.

And then there is God’s favored creation; us… human beings. People. He created us to rule over this earth and to have dominion over it. And he created us so wonderfully and so intricate.

The human body is a true work of art, regardless of what race we are or what ethnicity we are, we share the same circulatory functions, same digestive systems, same nervous systems, and so much more.

No matter how sophisticated and intelligent we think we are as human beings, we can never even come close to what God has done in His creation of us and everything around us.

So whether you’re just starting your day as you read this, or if you have been up all day and you’re reading this right before you go to sleep, take a moment and give God thanks for His awesome creation.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-3-13

(2 Samuel 22:47 NKJV)  “The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let God be exalted, The Rock of my salvation!

It breaks my heart when I hear and see people put their trust in their pastor, their minister, etc. instead of putting it in God.

There is no man you can trust to do all the right things. It’s important that we put our trust in God, that we lean on God fully and learn from Him.

Pastors are human beings and they too can fall. So many people put them on a pedestal and then their faith is shaken when something goes wrong.

What happens often in a church setting is that when the man of God falls, if our trust is in him, we get disappointed and it can cause us to fall and backslide and literally turn away from God.

In our early years, we were going to a local church. It was a great church with wonderful pastors that God had blessed us with. They taught us a lot of good things, and we were growing close to God. However, these pastors had trials and tribulations hit them and when these things came upon them, they split and broke up. It was a very sad day.

The thing that was even more sad was that when this all happened, the congregation ended up scattered. Instead of looking to God and asking Him if they should stay in the church or go elsewhere, they decided to take on the Pastor’s problem as if it was their own and  very many ultimately left the church behind.

The man may leave, but God will never leave. He remained sound and strong there. He had a plan even in such devastation. He had the next step already figured out. But the people decided to take their own steps, leaving God behind.

Cling to God. He is our Rock and salvation; ask Him what to do when trouble comes. Wait for His direction!  Amen.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-3-13

(Psalm 51:2-3 NKJV)  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. {3} For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me.

David had a way of laying himself out before God and asking for forgiveness for the mistakes and bad choices he made.

Although I don’t wish to follow in David’s footsteps when it comes to the sins he committed, I do want to follow in his footsteps when it comes to the sincerity of his heart when he was faced with his own sin.

David made some terrible choices in his life, causing some truly devastating consequences for himself and his family. But when God brought him face to face with his sin, David was always repentant and did his best to make things right.

And for this, God called David a man after His own heart.

In my life, I have two desires. One is for God to see me as a man after His own heart. The other is for God to look at me when I stand before Him, and say “well done my good and faithful servant”.

How do you handle your sin? What are your desires?

Lay your heart out before God and let Him show you.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-2-13

(Deuteronomy 4:5-6 NKJV)  “Surely I have taught you statutes and judgments, just as the LORD my God commanded me, that you should act according to them in the land which you go to possess. {6} “Therefore be careful to observe them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples who will hear all these statutes, and say, ‘Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.’

I love how Moses tells them this is your  wisdom.

What was their Wisdom? The statutes and Judgements. How did it cause them to be wise? By applying them in their lives. That was it. There wasn’t some secretive things they had to do… just apply the statutes and judgements!

Wisdom comes from taking the Word of God and applying it to our everyday life, in our everyday situations. In our homes, on our jobs, at school, in our churches etc.

Wisdom is found in God’s word and is free for us to obtain as we read it, study it and apply it.

Remember… wisdom does not come by just knowing it, we have to act upon it.

Bible Verse of The Day – 5-1-13

(Genesis 39:2 NKJV)  The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

Success is something that we all pursue and desire, in one form or another. The funny thing is that each us has a slightly different definition of what success is.

One thing I can guarantee you is that not a single one of us would include being a slave in that definition.

But take a look at the verse above. Notice that Joseph was a successful man, all while being in the house of his master!

Joseph was sold into slavery. He was forced to be a servant… first for Potiphar and then directly under Pharaoh. Never in his days in Egypt did Joseph live independently of his Egyptian masters.

And yet the Bible says repeatedly that Joseph found favor with God and that everything he put his hand to prospered.

You see, God can still show us His favor, even if we’re not in what we feel like are the best circumstances. We just need to let Him! We need to shake off the world’s definitions of success and take on God’s definitions.

And most importantly, we need to learn to be content where God has us. Only when we learn to be content and thankful for where we are at and what we have will God see fit to prosper us.

This is not an easy thing to do, but it’s what God desires for us.
